I live in Memphis and root for Memphis except when they play my Rebels, but this is just too much. Favre fined 10,000 for the exact same offense but Calhoun gets nothing for playing dirty trying to take an opposing player out of the game purposefully? These types of blocks are not thrown accidentally unless in Favre's case as a QB he just doesn't know how to block. I'm sure Calhoun does.
Sept. 14, ESPN....
JACKSON, Miss. -- Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt says defensive end Greg Hardy is "very doubtful" for Saturday's game with Southeastern Louisiana.
Hardy sprained his left ankle in the season-opening 45-14 win at Memphis and it remains swollen and discolored. The senior stayed in Oxford for treatment while other players left on a bye weekend.
The 6-foot-4, 265-pound Millington, Tenn., native has been struggling with a broken bone in his right foot since last year. It's unclear what Hardy's status is for the Sept. 24 game at South Carolina.
Nutt said Duke Calhoun should have been penalized for the cut block that injured Hardy and had Southeastern Conference officials review the play. [/size]The SEC agreed a penalty should have been called but took no further actions.

Who brought the officials to the game?
Are you actually advocating fining college kids? If the SEC officiating crew did not call the penalty on a play where the all-SEC player got hurt, what else can be done?
/sarcasm on
By the way, as punishment Duke had to try to catch passes from Hall for the first two games. I think he suffered enough.
/sarcasm off
It was freakin' $EC refs calling the game.
He was not engaged when Duke started the block (the definition of an illegal chop block) and it wasn't until our OL slid out on him that Hardy got doubled back. THAT, and NOT the start of the block, is what led to the injury.
To say that Duke should be punished or anything else is not "fair".
And as far as the "throwing a punch" that other rebel fans complained about, while he did push off, it was nowhere close to a punch. If that was a punch then Reggie White is the dirtiest player to ever play in the NFL. Speaking of the NFL, to say that Favre was fined for that same block is a stretch. I have NEVER seen Favre lined up as an outside WR then come in on a DL. He chopped a player in the open field, not the box, so it wasn't the same. A $10,000 fine to Favre is about the same as a 1.5 yard penalty.

What else would you expect the SEC to say? Let's see, an SEC team playing a non-SEC team WITH SEC OFFICIALS who didn't throw a flag. Oh, yeah...they got their make-up BS call on the roughing the passer penalty.
Wow, am I ever glad that we're done playing you. You won the game and yet you still come over here whining about a non-call in a game played nearly 3 weeks ago. BTW, if he's hurt so bad, why did he play the rest of the game?

And I am a Memphis fan who will pull for Ole Miss every game except when they play my Tigers. But guess what? It's a tough sport! Players get hurt. Michael Oher was one of the dirtiest players I ever saw. Late hits, punches under the pile and the list goes on. Y'all won, you have a very good team and I wish you well, but to even insinuate that it was a dirty play is FALSE! Greg Hardy said as much after the game. Watch the film again. It was in the box and the block started at Hardy's waist and then Duke fell. Maybe Hardy is just soft. He is consistently hurt and misses practices and games consistently. Not sayin' he doesn't have legitimate injuries, but most kids play through them. Good luck to the Rebels the rest of the way.
It's football. People get hurt. Over the years, Ole Miss has broken the legs of two of our quaterbacks. I don't remember a penalty flag in either case. There wasn't a suspension. It was football. It happens. The world keeps spinning.
Good grief. What a bunch of little babies you guys are. The game was almost 2 weeks ago. It's time to move along.
Why are you still here? Go away.

What an idiot. He did not try to take a player out of the game. He just used is arm to clear out the defender like a basketball player does on a rebound. The swim move. If someone should be fined it was the Ole Miss fans that threw the full cup of beer on the lady in the wheel chair. Fined for being classless and preppy. Hep Hep Bow Legged Prep

Were you guys watching the same game??? I'm not saying the refs DIDN'T call it, they evidently MISSED the call. Of course I'm not saying he should be fined either.....just that he plays dirty. I know football is rough, does that mean that facemask and horse collar tackles should be ok because, after all, it IS football. The rules are there to protect players, and the players know the rules. They violate them and that shows that they knowingly have no regard for the well being of their rival team. I'm posting the block in question, I know it probably won't be watched objectively either, but oh well. If you watch frame by frame, he tucks his arms and never attempts to make contact with Hardy other than the cut block. Good luck Calhoun, karmas a Btch............

No. We were worried about the next week's game vs. a team that could dominate us from the opening kickoff.

Horse collar rule is BS! I guess our guy should have just let him prance into the end zone so as not to disturb the ole miss uniform. Players are taught to hold if a defender gets away and is unabated to the qb. Are they dirty as well? I haven't watched the replay in two weeks b/c I have moved on, but when I watched it "frame by frame" after the game, as to make an informed opinion, he started at the waist. I saw no intent to hurt Hardy. Of course, you probably thought he should have sent a written request for permission to block your precious paranoid schizophrenic prima dona DE. And, if the roles were reversed you would see it differently. If it was dirty, I would say so. I saw no evidence of that.
Ole Miss will really miss Hardy going up against the mighty Lions of Southeastern Louisiana. Will239 must be one of those guys who is against dodgeball in P.E. classes and teachers using red ink to grade papers.
Who gives a sh!t its over. You clowns came up here and gave the whole city the effin H1N1!!!
PEOPLE!!!! he is a rebel fan, its just his nature to bitch and whine and moan about everything that doesnt go his way
get over it will239, yall won the f'n game, yea duke shouldnt have thrown that "punch" (if u wanna call a forearm to the helmet and a good acting job a punch) but come on its been almost 3 weeks now and ur still bitchin about this, f off and go troll and bitch somewhere else, no one wants to hear it here

If it was an intent to hurt Hardy, then Calhoun should be suspended. But it was the only incident in the game, and it was not conclusive. Furthermore, the referees didn't call it. If Calhoun had done it another time, then we would have more evidence. I don't think any suspension is warranted based on that.
Calhoun should have received a 15 yard penalty for the head slap, and nothing more.
Sorry that Hardy got hurt in our game. Hope he gets better. Can I ask you to apologize for Ole Miss breaking Patrick Byrne's leg on the third play of the 2005 season? I mean, breaking a guy's leg proves you have no regard for his well-being.
