They are now reporting that they have found 12 miners alive!!!!
There was an appearent miscommunication at the mine.

12 of the 13 miners were found dead. One has been rushed to the hospital, stabilized, then moved to a better medical facility.

My heart goes out to the families. I can't imagine how hard it is to think your loved one is going to be ok, then having them ripped away for a second time...

That is ridiculus. Before you make a report make sure you have the correct information.

I agree. the governer said that he didn't want to blame anyone. For the time being, i agree. But later, SH!T will hit the fan...
I was watching CNN and the families are livid. It is so sad. That company is going to be deep in their own 01-scout . You just don't do that. I hope the survivor comes out alright. He has a family with two kids. I also hope he can clear the fog that will surround this investigation. What a downer before going to bed.

Just think about all the Americans who went to bed thinking the best, only to wake up to (nearly) the worst...

CNN showed a US Today with the Headline 12 found Alive already printed. Not good at all.
So do you blame the media for the miscommunication?

I do. Being in the media you suppose to comfirmed any information you report to the public. How they did they confirm this information?
Everyone is blaming the company for the misinformation but I don't see why. It appears that someone leaked out some information that ended up being bad. I don't really blame the media because it wasn't the media that communicated that misinformation to the people in that small town. It spread like wildfire.
its just another case of the media relying on "inside sources" instead of getting it straight from the horses mouth.

I know that is often the case but with this one I don't think so. I was actually watching Fox when they Geraldo called in the news. He was very careful to say that it is unconfirmed, I also went to CNN International and they were saying the same thing. It was only after nearly an hour that they stopped saying "unconfirmed". The problem wasn't the media spreading this one, it was the way it traveled through that small town. People were running up and down the street yelling that they were alive. While the media blew it on the national scale, that doesn't mean squat to those who actually thought their dad, son, or husband was alive. Those are the ones that it really matters to and they were not told this by any media sources. They heard it before the media sources heard it.

My heart really breaks for those family members.
Like Brain Williams of NBC News said this evening, "it was an embarrassment and a black eye for the news media industry."

Not only for news media like Fox, MSNBC and CNN but also the print media as well. USA Today ran a front page story of the miners being alive without official confirmation. That is irresponsible journalism to the worst degree.

I'm not blaming them for the entire fiasco but they didn't make the situation any beter to deal with either. It's one thing to report the news and it's another to be accurate. It's the media job to be as accurate as possible and they were not in this case.
