There are bad ideas and then there are really bad ideas. Inviting John Calipari to the UMass Club in downtown Boston to "Celebrate UMass Basketball" is a really bad idea.

Why is that bad for UMass? They were completely irrelevant until John Calipari took over. Did he cheat? Maybe, but if it wasnt for him, no one outside of Massachusetts would even know they had a basketball team.
Was it a bad idea for Indiana to invite Bob Knight to be inducted into their HOF even though he was terminated for "bad character"? Of course not.

There are a lot of reasons not to have him back:
1. Allowing him to use the event as a chance to get recruits from the Boston area
2. Making UMass look stupid
3. Reminding everyone what a scoundrel he was and how he left them in the dust, much like he did us
If you see nothing wrong exchange UMass for Memphis, how do you feel about that?

His timing a move with NCAA sanctions is the only similarity.

We were relevant long before Calipari got here. They were not even close.

But it isn't surprising-his boy Kellogg is the coach and surely, after several years under Cal, Kellogg knows how to run thangs and get his way in the athletic dept. That is why RC did his one of his few good moves and did not hire Kellogg to be the University of Memphis Head Basketball Coach. Even if Pastner was not my first coach as head coach. Josh Pastner is doing well considering the U of M getting undercut for its 2009 class.
