I heard a rumor that Calhoun could get suspended for what amounted to a punch to the back of Marshay Green's head on the play where Green was flagged for pass interference.
Also, I believe it was No. 66, maybe your center, that kicked Patrick Trahan after a play at one point. Trahan had just finished his pass rush and was on his back in the endzone. Hall had thrown the ball downfield, and the head official had started jogging downfield. Behind the officials, 66 came back to Trahan and kicked him in the chest. The officials didn't catch it, so there was no flag, but I'm curious to hear if anything has been mentioned about that from your side. I would think that would be something that might warrant a suspension or at least a lot of extra sprints this week.

Calhoun was just making sure your player didn't intercept the ball, that's all.

Why the **** are you still here?...the game, series, et al. is over. Go away, theres some beatdowns you need to prepare for.
If Duke is suspended for that then it is a travesty. The official (sec) was looking straight at it. Not sayin' y'all should have been flagged for the PI. It should have been a no call on that play. I didn't see the kick on Trahan. I tell you what was BS though. That horse$#!t personal foul on Lester Lawson for helmet to helmet contact. I have watched 20 times frame by frame, and his helmet never touched any part of Sneads helmet. He hit him right in the chest while Snead was still in the air.
If one Memphis player gets the flu then all of your guys that came to Memphis with the flu should be suspended as well.

Slow it down frame by frame. If he hit his face mask, it grazed the bottom of it when his head jerked forward from the initial hit. It was a chicken$#!t call. It was a good, aggresive hit and the kid got penalized for playin' the game it is supposed to be played. For what it's worth, the "horsecollar" rule is chicken$#!t, as well. BTW, I like saying chicken$#!t.

This is worthless without a link. Seriously Bruiser, you've been here long enough to know better than stating "I Heard a rumor." I'd like to know WHERE you heard this rumor from? For instance, if it was from the 65 year old Ole Miss fan sitting behind me at the game who didn't know jack-squat about football but wanted to scream like she did, it has little relevance.

I'll agree with that. I haven't seen the replay, but in live action I was wondering why they threw the flag for roughing the passer. The horse collar call was right. I know people don't like the rule, but it's there to protect the players. Too many knees have been messed up with that kind of tackle. Here is Calhoun's shot, and yes it was very close to what you'd call a punch, and it was intentional.

i did watch it in slow-mo. His helmet hit the bottom of his facemask, which caused GoldenBoy's heat to snap back. All the SEC ref could see was the head and I'm certain it looked much worse to him than it really was.

Lawson put his facemask right into Sneads chest just like players are taught to do. It was a good hit with no ill intent. It wasn't a head hunt shot.

Hey Rebel, just as I suspected before the game, your team was a superior-talented football team and was better-coached. Your size, speed, and overall athletic ability eventually wore Memphis down and you were able to impose your will. You have a great team and should compete very well with LSU and Alabama for the SEC West title. Good luck!
Now, please go and contemplate next week's opponent and let us do the same. We really need to - our team will probably have it's hands full with MTSU.

The H-2-H call was made several tiomes in games this weekend. It is a focus for refs to protect QBs in particlular and from neck injuries.
It is a tough call to make because it is often not the Defensive player that causes the contact.
Ahh for the good old days when crack-back blocks and head-on-head tackles were not only OK but a mark of good football technique.

did you see the play? it was a clear closed fisted punch to the back of the head and it was obviously dirty. The commentators (along with 45,000 fans) were baffled by the PI call against the victim of the play. Between the punch and the chop block on Hardy, I'd say Duke moved up a few spots on this year's dirtiest players rankings. Hell I thought I was watching Auburn vs LSU in 03 with that knee shot.
Good luck the rest of the way.

You are crazy if you think his block was dirty. He hit him on the hip and fell down as Hardy tried to shed the block. Hardy said as much. Plus it was inside the tackle box so it was LEGAL!!! I won't dispute the PI call. I thought it should have been a no call, but I saw Michael Oher cheap shot Memphis players every year we played them and NEVER get called.

I'm with BERT on this one. Victim? Really? What about the cheap shot delivered to Steele on his last touchdown? One of your guys really cleaned his clock well into the end zone and surprise, surprise...no call from the BS SEC officials. You can count on one or two calls against the non-SEC team each and every time you play an SEC team that are questionable and usually at crucial points in the game.

That was awesome. He knocked the crap outta the guy. Way to go Duke!
actually to me looks like a legal move.. swim move.. don't see anything wrong what he did
The PI was the RIGHT call. I saw it real time, as I just happened to have a good angle. After Hall released the ball, I looked to where Duke was running and saw the Rebel defender still pushing him toward the sideline. So, the defender was making contact after 5 yards (I'm guessing that's still Def Hold) and while the ball was in the air (obvious PI). When they showed the replay on the jumboTRON, they picked up after that contact, which is why everyone was wondering why the call was made.
Having said that, I did not see the "punch" that Calhoun threw, so I can't comment on that. As someone else suggested, he was probably just trying to make sure the ball wasn't intercepted and was probably a little frustrated at being held repeatedly - not that this would make a punch OK.
After seeing that, it was not a punch, it was a "get the hell out of my way" throwdown. It didnt look malicious but was probably a little excessive. None of the officials thought so either since two of them were staring right at him (one even threw the flag for PI which Im debating on being the correct call or not still).

I agree. It's a physical game. I for one am glad that we are physical this year. That is what we have been missing for a few years. That, to me, is another bright spot. Despite the negatives, I loved seeing Winston knock Bolden's helmet off, loved seeing Lawson drill Snead (legally), and loved seeing Duke get his hat in on the int/fumble. Poe is a big physical guy that was moving their o-line and disrupting plays as well as Bryant. We need some nasty on this team. That is what Southern always did. Hit folks right in the f'in mouth. I just wish we would have hit Snead like that earlier. Make him think about standin' in that pocket. Go TIGERS!!!

This is NOT TRUE at all. He did not kick him, but still should have been flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. He stood over the Rebel player on the ground, looked like he was going to help him up, and then PUSHED him back to the ground. He did not kick him.
It should have been a penalty no doubt, but please don't make it worse than it was by saying he kicked him.
I'll tell you what's worse than all the stuff on the field Sunday...OLE PISS fans invading the Memphis student section and starting fights. I saw this happen THREE separate times by THREE different rowdy GROUPS of OLE PISS fans.

Should have been offensive interference on Calhoun, but nothing more. This poster has it right, Calhoun was just playing defense. A suspension would be idiotic.

It wasn't near as dirty as the late hit on Steele on the 2nd td. He waspast the goal line on white out of bounds when he got hit. Yeah, hardy is such a clean player.
Definitely not a punch. Maybe an excessive swim move trying to get the guy impeding his route out of the way.
I will say this: anyone who doesn't agree with the defensive pass interference doesn't know the rule.
2009-10 NCAA football rule 7 section 3 article 8 part c Wrote:c. Defensive pass interference is contact beyond the neutral zone by a Team B player whose intent to impede an eligible opponent is obvious and it could prevent the opponent the opportunity of receiving a catchable forward pass. When in question, a legal forward pass is catchable. Defensive pass interference occurs only after a legal forward pass is thrown.
watch the video again, the defender is looking back for the throwing motion, then puts his arms out, hips his way into Duke's path on the outside, and deliberately slows down to impede Duke, who was clearly trying to get around him on the outside to where the ball was going. The defender caused the contact by dramatically slowing down, shifting his body to the outside where Duke was halfway past him, and barring Duke from going around with his arms, and in doing so, his intent to impede Duke rather than play the ball himself was obvious.
that is why the defensive interference call was made, and if the announcers and rebel fans are too dumb to realize it, at least the official got it right.
The defender's sudden shift to the outside and slowing down got his head in the way of Duke's attempt to swim by, without enough reaction time to change what he was doing.
Once the guy's head gets in the way, then maybe in frustration Duke gives him a little extra oomph after contact is made.
but the official didn't call it and that is anything but a punch. maybe in a girly fight. at most it's a shove, more like a "shuck," and it is football and they do have helmets on.

I heard a rumor that you were a trolling a$$hole.
Actually, that is simply true.
Even the Calhouns nonsense was nothing...he was being held all the eway downfield and then gave a shove to the thuggish missippi kid.
For fans of a team that is now 1-0 and has extremeley rare expectations considering how incredibly bad they have been, you sure lack self-esteem. Hmmm...instead of celebrating a win with my friends I will continue to seek Memphis fans approval.
How cute.
When missippi stops admitting football players that cannot read, all this BS will make more sense. Meanwhile...try to control yourself with these rare expectations. Cute.
Says a fan of a school that admitted such scholars as Albert Means and Joey Dorsey. Congratulations on your double standard.
I was posing a serious question because yesterday I heard on radio that the conference was going to consider reprimanding Calhoun. I wanted to know if anything else had been said about it or if it was just a pure radio rumor.
Do you really want to go there? Jerrell Powe anyone? He's not exactly an astrophysicist.
I agree with the commentators that Duke probably will get in trouble once the conference reviews the film. I still can't believe they called PI on that play and ignored his punch to the head.

And Means got through those rigorous sec standards before he got into Memphis. What's Means doing these days? Oh, that's right, he's a local HS teacher and coach with a degree.

Is taht teacher who took all of Powe's tests still taking them for him? Or has he learned to read yet? How about that punk rb that got caught waving a gun on Beale? And you want to talk about Means and Dorsey. Why don't you guys move on the the NE by SW by or whatever Louisiana you play. Isn't time to start pestering Jacksonville State?

Also, I believe it was No. 66, maybe your center, that kicked Patrick Trahan after a play at one point. Trahan had just finished his pass rush and was on his back in the endzone. Hall had thrown the ball downfield, and the head official had started jogging downfield. Behind the officials, 66 came back to Trahan and kicked him in the chest. The officials didn't catch it, so there was no flag, but I'm curious to hear if anything has been mentioned about that from your side. I would think that would be something that might warrant a suspension or at least a lot of extra sprints this week.
First play you speak of, wouldn't shock me at all and would be warranted. It was a close as one comes to throwing a punch while in play. There was no PI on EITHER play that it was called on.
Didn't see the second one.
RTP penalty was total BS.
The replay showed he cleared the guy out of the way much like a rebounder in basketball. no punch no suspension........Now the I did witness a rebel fan in section 110 throw a full beer and hit a lady in a wheelchair, now that rebal fan should have been arrested.

that might qualify for exaggeration of the week
did you see the play? it was a clear closed fisted punch to the back of the head and it was obviously dirty.
You may have a point. I am sure Duke's hand hurt that Ole Miss head gear. There may have been some property damage, and of course the DB is still reeling from the blow.
I think RC should write a check for a couple of thousand $ to cover the damaged FOOTBALL HELMET, and Duke should be declared ineligible.
Amazing.

agree on the roughing call. the ref totally blew that on. Snead jumped into the air just before he got hit, so he ended up getting hit upper chest toward his chin. there was absolutely no helmet to helmet contact, which is what the ref based his call on.
see, after I told him what to look for, he's got nothing.
posted after me and completely ignored my post breaking down the video.
how convenient.
btw, does anyone else find it ironic that a guy who goes by the name "bruiser" is whining about a guy getting shoved around a little bit in the course of a football play?
then again, seeing what he considers a punch, maybe that just means he bruises easily.
