well, I officially know football season is getting close now that Holtz has said his 2 teams with the best chance to play in the BCS title game are Florida and (drum roll please)....... Notre Dame.
Hope ESPN holds him to that when the Irish are something like 8-4. If I closed my eyes and heard Holtz discussing health care reform and Barney Frank talking about ND, I dont think I could tell the difference.

ND plays 1 preseason top 25 team and that is USC in South Bend. If they continue to improve like they did at the end of last season and USC has a bad game against them it is not too difficult to see them undefeated. That said they are not one of the top 10 teams in the country IMHO.

Lou Holtz is a homer for Notre Dame, the school he previously coached, and Coach Holtz has never hidden that fact. Does he have the best announcing voice in the world? Of course not, I would never admit that. However, he is smart and gives good insight to whatever he does on the College Football Final Show or during his appearances during the friday and saturday on ESPN in the end. You should knock him for his opinions, but not for his personal traits, in my opinion.
I wish ESPN would cut out the Dr. Lou, Lou Holtz pep talk, etc. and just have him analyze. His skits are some of the worst in all of sports and I change the channel every time he does them.

Is the interesting to see what a college football tries to do to motivate his players to play better against a better team. Although I think this rah-rah garbage does not work too much, the plan a coach can give during the week to beat a better team can indeed work. That is one reason why college football is so much different in my opinion than professsional football.
