Full Version: Humor and delusion from the Memphis board...

I thought I would post this here, because that's probably where this thread would otherwise wind up. The Memphis board certainly has been a great source of amusement this morning.

Yes, it's all the fault of the BCS cartel that Memphis got caught cheating:
Quote:I think that if we: Current administration, Students and Alumni take this lying down, we will be in this boat again. They will find a way to prevent Memphis from ever reaching the heights we have achieved over the last 4 years to protect the BCS Cartel.

It doesn't matter, because we won't acknowledge it, anyway:
Quote:- Our place in the "official" records- we obviously don't care about that since we still claim the 1985 FF.

Quote:we did nothing wrong. that is provable. so i can live with it. the ncaa has its reasons to do what it does. not logical or exactly legal but they dont have to be.

when all the hand waving and weeping is over, nothing has really changed.

the banners are still up. the photos are still hanging on the wall. the money is still in the bank. the trophies are still in the case. the memories are still there. nothing has really changed.

It's the NBA's fault:
Quote:The NBA should seriously look at repealing their one year away from high school rule. This is a direct consequence of that stupid rule.

The NCAA is the corrupt organization here, not us:
Quote:The NCAA is a totally worthless organization. I have no respect for the NCAA. 38-2 is the record and will always be.

Quote:I know it's been debated on the other thread, but a lawsuit is definitely in order. Even on principle alone, for the future of our own athletic program and other non-Big Six schools, we have to refuse to be the fall guy here. We can't just bend over and take this, even though that's been R.C.'s M.O.

From out of left field:
Quote:Folks if it makes you feel any better, Clemson still claims its FB National Championship, and what was going on there was much worse than what was going on here.

And you know it's really bad when Memphis fans would rather talk about football than basketball:
Quote:I'm so ready for tiger football to get started. I'm sick and tired of coach X articles. We need to beat Ole Miss and thats all I'm focusing on now....

Sadly, there's not enough space here to post all the quotes bashing Calipari, but most of those are retreads from when he bolted for Kentucky.
Sounds just like Alabama fans the last time they got caught cheating. No wonder we hate Memphis fans so much.

I like how the poster ignores the fact that if that rule wasn't in place, then Memphis wouldn't have had Derrick Rose, and they never wouldn't have won nearly as many games.
They didn't win *any* games with Derrick Rose. They lost because they cheated.

The cockroach with the "shoot Calipari in the face" tag line and picture of some guy pointing a gun really does need a visit from law enforcement though.

The funniest signature pic though is the tall dude with six *incredibly* unattractive and flat-chested memphis dance team chicks - the one on his far right is very obviously pregnant. In a two-piece dance outfit. I wouldn't expect to see that at Troy.
It is like this: the average fan didn't know. Folks " bought in" to a coach that played with what they felt ( underdig syndrome) into a huge check.

As for the vacated wins, I am upset. It is hard for me to argue we shouldn't have to vacate them either. if the guys that are supposed to know what was going on didn't, why not? And if they did, that speaks for itself.

I do think there is an unfair distribution of punishment between BCS teams and non BCS teams, however. And it is a shame that Cal walks unscathed while the Univeristy pays.
John Calipari is a smart guy and he knew the city of Memphis would buy into a team that would win. He did what he had to make that happen. Do I believe the certain people knew what was happening and chose to turn a blind eye? Absolutely. Do I believe that Tiger supporters thought Cal might be shady in his dealings? Yes. Not all, but many of the die-hards, like myself did. Would I trade all the fun I had over Calipari's tenure for a couple of NIT's? Heck no. Yeah the UofM's reputation will take a hit, but eventually it will blow over. Especially when USC gets hit much worse in the near future. Pastner begins a new era for the program and I truly believe will turn out to be a fantastic coach.

Of course the average fan didn't know. But the fans who claimed Calipari's achievements for their own now have to own ALL of Calipari and World Wide Wes.

If Calipari wants to keep a Final Four banner, he's going to have to hang one at a BCS school.

I know you hate Memphis, and I understand. But, there is irony in what you say about having to hang a banner at a BCS school.

Jim Larranaga still has one hanging at George Mason and it's not in danger.
