Mayo is on board if they are trying to free up more money for AI

Grizzlies forums are speculating it's part of a deal with Portland for Travis Outlaw.

Although, OJ has been working on his PG game all summer. Could we see OJ at PG and AI at SG?

I'm of the opinion that Heisley is just trying to save a buck, as usual. Also, J-Will is coming back to the league..
hope its Travis.. could live with AI... Probably right on Heisley saving a buck
but dont count out a max contract for J Will lol

With Zack Randolph in the mix, It is expected that Hakim Warrick would be the odd man out with the Grizzlies. I had not heard much regarding Hakim, but good luck for whoever the Ex-Grizzly plays for in the NBA in the future.
I'm all for Outlaw or Iverson. I hate that they had to let Hakim go but if it's best for the team I'll support it. My question is why do they still have Marko Jaric? He doesn't want to be here and he is one of the highest paid players on the team and he averaged 2.6 PPG 1.4 APG, and 11 MPG. That is someone they need to get rid of for money. I'll start supporting him a little bit if he brings his wife to the games more often.

No one wants Jaric's contract. Everybody wants his wife though.
I think if the Outlaw rumors are true then it is a great move. If Mayo is willing to work to be an NBA point guard then give him the chance. It could be no worse than the Conley experiment. I would assume that Portland would get Conley in the Outlaw deal, if that is the case I could live with a starting 5 of Mayo, Gay, Outlaw, Randolph, and Gasol. Thats a pretty good starting five especially with the Western Conference not going to be as strong as it usually is.
The Western Conference is going to be pretty strong still in my opinion, but I agree that the Outlaw thing would at least give us a decent team.

I'm an open minded guy I love getting somebody else's opinion, but with I think the only team in the West that loaded up this summer was the Spurs. The Rockets are completely devoid of experience. The Spurs are the only team that has made an upgrade besides the Lakers. I get the feeling that there is something going on behind the scenes in New Orleans with Chris Paul stating that he feels he could be traded. As far as OK city I feel we have past them now as far as talent. The Suns arent going to be good. Portland will still be a tough team as will Denver. The Jazz will make the playoffs as will Dallas I really dont know how Shawn MArion will help them. So I see two playoffs spots up for grabs. Do I see the Griz making the playoffs? No, but I believe they will be maybe 5-7 games behind the 8th seed.

This is a tough spot the Grizzlies are in to make the Western Conference playoffs. With all these good teams in the West, Allen Iverson signing for the Grizzlies would be a great idea for him.
They really need to put Mayo at PG cause Conley is not helping the team at starting PG.
How many of you actually watched the Grizzlies in the last half of last season? Conley's numbers put him in the top 5-7 of point guards in the league in almost every category from the time Hollins took over the team. It continues to amaze me how many people act as if Conley is Marcus Banks or Mike Wilks. The guy was fantastic the last half of the season, which, not coincidentally, was the first time he was ever freed to run the team. I will be furious if the Grizzlies trade him away for a guy, Travis Outlaw, who in six years has not proven himself to be any more valuable than Conley, who's played just one and a half seasons. Why is it that the "potential," which is all Outlaw's ever had going for him, of a guy three years older and with a much longer track record of a lack of productivity, is worth trading away Conley whose performance has been as good as Outlaw and who has only had a year and a half to pick up the PG position so far?

Outlaw 08-09 12.8 ppg, .453 FG, .377 3PT, .723 FT, 4.1 Reb, .58 Stl, .70 Blk, 1.16 TO, 2.07 PF, 1.0 Ast

Conley 08-09 10.9 ppg, .442 FG, .406 3PT, .817 FT, 3.4 Reb, 1.1 Stl, .10 Blk, 1.74 TO, 1.78 PF, 4.3 Ast

Career Outlaw 366 Games, Conley 135 Games

Outlaw 9.6 ppg, .445 FG, .359 3PT, .733 FT, 3.4 Reb, .6 Stl, .8 Blk, .9 TO, 1.9 PF, .8 Ast

Conley 10.3 ppg, .437 FG, .383 3PT, .784 FT, 3.1 Reb, 1.0 Stl, .1 Blk, 1.7 TO, 1.7 PF, 4.3 Ast

This potential trade has nothing to support it from a basketball performance or potential perspective.
Who said anything about trading Conley?

Oh and one more reason such a trade would be stupid: O.J. was so much more consistent when catching and shooting last season than when creating his own shot. He does not need to be a full-time PG.
Sorry didn't see that. Dmagic is completely off base with his assessment though. Conley would be no part of that deal. Conley was never discussed as part of the current Outlaw rumors. The only time Conley was brought up was with possible Outlaw/Aldridge rumors like a year ago. Portland is basically giving up Outlaw. The current Outlaw rumors are based on a sign and trade with Warrick. It could possibly be something like Warrick/Lakers 2010/2nd rounder for Outlaw/Bayless. Nothing to do with Conley. But just FYI, I don't see the Blazers dealing with us anytime soon so you know what I think of the rumors.

Thanks for the explanation. I certainly agree anything with Portland is unlikely given the Darius Miles situation. As far as I'm concerned, that is a good thing at this point.
