No joke.

She talked on and on and on. A bit over 7 minutes by my estimate. At least she didn't pull the same stunt as at Barbara Jordan's Funeral when she talked over 25 minutes when she was set for 5 minutes.

You couldn't separate Sheila Jackson Lee from a TV Camera with a crowbar.
How did she warrant that? I didn't know she was part of the Jackson 5.

I'd like to try. 01-billgates
When I lived in DC, the joke was the most dangerous place to be was between Phil Graham and a camera. So, I guess it's bipartisan. Although, I did (I think) see him at a game once. He only had one aide with him, was very soft spoken, and stood in line with everyone else.

She definitely was on TV here in Houston during the ceremony, while I was at lunch. I commented out loud asking if that wasn't our Representative (while wondering silently as to what in the heck she was doing there in the first place) speaking at the MJ memorial.

The sound was turned down, but I did note that she was up there for a seeming eternity.

Jessie Jackson has national exposure, and that wouldn't have shocked me. But a congresswoman from Houston? What is the connection? And all it makes me wonder is what does she do with her time? Wouldn't she be better off doing something around Houston, if Congress is not needing her in Washington?

Fact finding junket?

Incredible. Maybe we can have some stimulus money thrown into a memorial somewhere in L.A.

(since of the small portion of stimulus money that's actually been spent, most has gone to funding Medicaid etc, and only 6% of the money actually spent to date has gone to shovel ready public works projects (which I would have much less problem with, since our infrastructure is aging)).

Ahhh ... a chance to go politico. SJL never met a camera she didn't like and will spend howevermany tax dollars it takes to assure she's front and center of same.

Your serve !!
Someone should have used a hook on her if she went on 25 minutes at
Jordan's funeral. The worst I had heard about her was from an upset veteran several years ago about her appearance at the Houston VA cemetary. He told me SJL inaproately used the occasion to speak about some unrelated socialist legislation she wanted passed instead of about the those buried there who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.

Maybe her name should be Sheila Sherman Grant so her name could be that of Yankee instead of Confederate generals.

To be honest, I would hate to have the names of those two Midwesterners, loyal Americans and consummate soldiers associated with such a third-tier politician.
I suppose it is possible that "Jackson Lee" refers to two other stalwartly loyal Americans: Richard Henry Lee (the author of the resolution of independence, the operative language around which Thomas Jefferson wrote his declaration) and Andrew Jackson. But I doubt it.

Now I don't know her actual family history, but I think it's a fair guess that her ancestors (Jackson) and her husband's ancestors (Lee) were rather less than thrilled about the process that resulted in their ending up with good, confederate surnames.
Guess who was sitting directly behind Sonia Sotomayor during the Conformation Hearing yesterday? More camera time for SJL.
