Full Version: Cardinals Starting Rotation

In the last 5 games the Cardinals starting pitchers gave up 1 run in 37.2 innings. The bullpen gave up 1 run in 8.1 innings for 2 runs in 45 innings total.I'll take it.

Joel Piniero 9 IP 0 Runs vs.Cubs
Chris Carpenter 5 IP 0 Runs vs.Cubs
Adam Wainwright 8.2 IP 1 Run vs.Cubs
Todd Wellemeyer 6 IP 0 Runs vs.Royals
Kyle Lohse 8 IP 0 Runs vs.Royals

Does this guarantee anything for the rest of the season? No,but it's an impressive run for the entire rotation to pitch this well.
I'll take the last five games as well.
The dozen or so before that, not so much.
I see TLR's intensity in the dugout at an all-time high. Every win is important. Hell, every pitch matters. Roller coaster season, which is exciting to me.
Nice response to go from 4 games up to 4 games down and snap back strongly. NL Central will be entertaining this year.
Definitely needed a streak like this after the last 20 days or so. Dave Duncan is the man.

I hope the Cards are saving their $$$$ to resign Albert. I shudder to think what he'll be offered on the open market. However, approximately $24 M will be off the books after this year....Glaus...$12...Kennedy $4 and KG...$8M. Now....if only Tony L. can be prevented from going after more retreads. It should be time to give Brett Wallance an opportunity to play 3rd. He's a hitting machine.

You know what you are talking about! Dave Duncan = The best pitching coach in the business!
Since getting swept at home by Milwaukee the Cardinals have gone 7-2 including beating the Brewers 2 out of 3 at Miller Park.Up next:Giants 3 game series in San Francisco.

And what about Carpenter having a perfect game for 6 innings! And that ended up being one of the two losses.

Couldn't agree more about Albert, but that should be a no brainer. I never liked the Glaus signing, I'll be happy to give one of the hot young prospects/up and comers...the shot. Hopefully, the young guys can withstand TLR's constant lineup changes...

One thing that's going to bother me is that it's only a matter of time until they move someone in a trade from the outfield. They moved the up and comer B.Barton, but I'm going to hate to see Ankiel or Ludwick moved...Duncan too (although he's prob. the odd man out due to defense imo) Colby Rasmus is almost def. not going to be moved due to potential and youth. So, I guess time will tell.

And for once, I actually liked what we got at SS...but KG is having anxiety issues on defense and at the plate after a decent start to the season...I'm not sure where its coming from...but it's a liability the TLR won't play around with much, so he better figure something out...(I never wanted to lose Eckstein, simply because of his work ethic...and consistency as a leadoff hitter) Skip has become a much better leadoff, etc...so at least we're getting something locked in on that respect
No way they let Albert get away. I don't ever see that happening.
Chris Carpenter put on a clinic last night. Complete game, allowing one homerun. Moving his ERA up for the 2009 season to a whopping 0.71! I'm reluctant to post this, as I still worry about him staying healthy.

Chris Carpenter Stats: (He won the NL Cy Young Award in '05)
[First Six Starts] 2005 / 2009
W-L 5-1 / 4-0
ERA 3.86 / 0.71
K-BB 35-7 / 31-5
Opp. BA .263 / .146
Yeah he is the key and as londg as hes healhty they will be in the title hunt.

The only way Duncan could be saved defensively is play first base and with Pujols their with the Cardinals, that is not happening. I saw him play left field when I was at Busch Stadium two Sundays Ago Memorial Day Weekend, and I watch him miss two totally playable balls in the same innning against the Royals. I don't know how much value he will have unless he goes to the American League and play DH until he can play halfway decent outfield.

Dead on...I started to think he was moving in the right direction after getting used to the position, but it looks as if hes destined for the AL DH role. I bet its been great for him having his dad there etc...but business, is unfortunately business sometimes. If you catch my drift
Quote:"After hearing that Henry and his brother, C.J., picked Kansas over Kentucky, I thought of a conversation I'd had with C.J. at the Jordan Brand All-Star Game in April. C.J. walked on to John Calipari's Memphis team last season and was still wearing a Memphis hat at the game, and when he compared Memphis to Kentucky, he said something surprising: "Kentucky doesn't have the same 'oomph' to it that Memphis did. There's more tradition at Kentucky, but what [Calipari] was building at Memphis was different." Whereas every coach views Kentucky as a major upgrade over Memphis, not every player feels the same way.)" -Luke Winn of SI/quoting CJ Henry

I love your sig 04-rock
I don't see Chris Duncan as a DH because he isn't a good hitter & strikes out way too much.Pitch low and away because he can't lay off that pitch. His future is at 1B but when will he find a team that needs him?
If he is not going to be an American League Designated Hitter or at first base in a trade, then Chris Duncan will very soon be go back down to the minor leagues. Maybe back here in Memphis will be his destination, or will he be a package deal during the next month or two to try to help get to Cards go to first for the National League Central Divison Title.
