Knowing that our signings aren't done yet, some posters are stating already that next year's basketball team will be the worst to ever wear the green and gold. I think we are still NIT bound with only what we know is coming back (yes, I'm counting Mayfield in that bunch). With AJ, Fields, Coleman, Milsap, Moore, Crawford, the Thunda from Down Unda, Mayfield (plus 3/4 more we are about to add now or over the summer) I think there is absolutely no chance this will be the worst Blazer team ever...and we have still yet to reach the level of malaise that existed in the last years of Murryball.
NOTE: Since I realize there is no way to avoid this devolving into a "bash Davis" thread: I do think NIT in Davis' 4th year ain't cutting mustard, and I've let my views be known to the powers that be, but I'll be there cheering regardless. I just think the "I hate Davis and will make a joke at his expense on every thread remotely related to basketball" horse has been suspiciously motionless and is starting to attract flies...
YOu have no option for
"This is a stupid poll and serves no legitimate purpose"
You are just trying to draw out the fans of UAB basketball who do not think that Davis is the right person for the job. If you read carefully, those fans are in full force and you are in the miniority. I have already stated that I am not going to judge his recruits, having not seen them play.
Davis is being judged on his performance, not the recruits coming in this year.

No, I'm trying to introduce some perspective...regardless of who is coaching the team. Things are definitely on a downward trend, but I don't see any way next year's team could be the "worst ever" at UAB. I was actually very interested in hearing your opinion on this matter with your extensive knowledge of just how bad some of our past teams were...
Worst ever was under Murry at 13-17. If Davis, as he has hinted at, turns Bartow Arena into a bakery filled with cupcakes every game night, it won't be the worst ever. It might even not be Davis's worst season at UAB. He might surpass his 15-16 year that he threw away while waiting on "his" team to arrive.
Same dude will be doing the coaching, and PDIII will have graduated. Someone must be fitted for the cape that Paul is leaving behind, because Davis has the potential to coach us to a loss every night. We will finish .500 at best, including losses to a couple of cupcakes.
I worry more about 2011. Next year we will at least have Crawford and Moore (who showed improvement last year) and a proven scorer in Milsaps.

I do as well. Mike Davis has shown himself a buffoon, and Brian Mackin a fool for continuing to employ him. But the players who put on the uniform and represent our university hold my respect and Belief. Talking about "worst ever" in May is a needless and petty insult to them.
As long as the Raven Haired (with gold streak) Wonder returns, it will be a good season.
I still think we could reach 20 wins, thanks to a really watered down schedule. UWGB?! S my D!
My FN arse will be there every night. Maybe I'll win another BWW challenge!

Speaking of BWW challenges and watered down, three friends and I took the Blazin' Challenge at our local BWW yesterday for lunch. 12 wings. 1 minute, 2 seconds. New local record. And I never broke a sweat. I don't know what "Blazin'" sauce is, but I think it's mostly water. Weak stuff.

Well, you do have an iron gullet. Did they put your picture up on a wall?

Yep. And I got a T-shirt, a hat, and my wings for free. My friend Brian, however, threw up.

Hahaha, we have a puker!
I don't have an iron stomach quite like the GN, but the Wing Challenge was dificil in two regards:
1) I believe the wings had been sitting out since closing time on the night before; and
2) The rubbery wings, flavored in "Wild" sauce, (which is the 2nd to hottest but isn't really that hot) were complimented with lukewarm Sprite.

I still contend Davis is not a bad coach. He is not a good coach either at this point. He is a slightly better than average coach and an average recruiter. The average results speak to that. Can he become a good coach? Yes. While at UAB? Who knows? He better start on the road to becoming a good coach this upcoming season or he will be doing it somewhere else.
Davis's biggest problem is not Xs and Os. It's managing the program. Not coaching.
