I'd rather take a little radiation than have some lead up against the boys. Lead's been known to mess up the reproduction process.
So has radiation. Fast growing cells are about the most easily damaged by it. Things like the red blood cells being produced in your blood marrow, fetuses, especially early on, and the sperm cells your boys are pumping out. Those live about two weeks, they are always in production. Good side, any damaged will only cause a problem if they fertilize an ovum within that time. Bad side, if they do, you are all but certain to have a defective baby.

This is the same principle behind chemo and radiation treatments for most cancers.
