KRB...maybe we should have one thread to post our comments about the Yankees so at the end of the season if anything changed or if we continued on our down hill spiral instead of going through all of the threads.

Phil Hughes is pitching tonight. Looks like the rain will hold off.

I sure hope Hughes pitches well. We need another starter. Of course our bats need to be better than the past two nights.

Hey...if I have to move back to Memphis, we should take a road trip in June to visit Jake as the Yankees play the Braves in Atlanta this year!!
This is the People's Forum. You can't have your own thread.

We need a thread, we need to start knocking threads off of the baseball. We need some offense. Now. Hey Poppa, we are people.
The Yankees are a paper tiger.

Hank and Hal overpaid for Tex, CC, and AJ.

I want them to toil in mediocrity until they start making smarter moves....

They have made some bonehead moves. It's Professional baseball. I remember Viet nam , Really well. The team with the largest payroll, doesn't always win.
It's that damn new stadium. That's like building a new Statue of Liberty.
We will probably toil in mediocrity, or maybe not. Jake , I've been listening to "Vincebus Eruptum". Blue Cheer rocks. I think that is the name of the album. I'm old, so I forget sometimes.
I miss the blue collar Yankees of the late 90s that won the championships. Money doesn't win games. Heart does! With the exception being the lust of my life, not many on the yankees have the heart any more.

Oh sad is this. I'm at a rooftop bar enjoying the weather, cocktails and jazz, and I would rather be watching baseball.[/align]
The more the Steinbrenners get involved the worse things will get. They haven't had a good young pitcher in forever. Joba had a shot at being a good reliever maybe even the next closer, but they will probably over work his arm trying to make him a starter.

KRB is right, the team with the highest payroll doesn't always win. But they can drive the cost of players so high that small teams can't compete consistently.

I am a huge proponent of the NFL style salary cap. It makes teams earn championships not buy them, and it makes players earn their money. It's no surprise that the NFL is the most popular pro sport.
I'm not sure the high payroll teams really have an effect on the low payroll teams.

The Rays were able to compete, as are the Marlins, and now the Royals and Pirates are showing signs of life.

The Twins are always in the thick of things, as are the Oakland A's.

It comes down to recognizing talent and building a team. A team has to have a certain balance...like the 90s Yankees. Those teams were carried by guys like Paul O'Neil, Tino Martinez, Scott Brosius, Shane Spencer etc.

The only "bought" team I can think of is the 1997 Marlins...usually, it doesn't work.

tigerangel25

so i cant talk about the cardinals in this thread?
When Brosius left, the heart left. Hell the Marlins sell teams. Jake is right ,the A's, Ray's, even the twins can compete. You do have to recognise talent. You have to develop talent. Talent can also be purchased.

In todays instant gratification world. Fans don't want to wait for developement. I haven't yet figured out a way that all teams can finish first. Teams that have the money spend it.

I don't like the Steinbrenners, never will. George has made as many dumb moves as smart ones. The kids don't seem to be much smarter.
I wonder who will have a better year. The Somali Pirates, or the Pittsburgh Pirates? I'm betting on Pittsburgh.

Allright , that's not fair. You know that I can't concentrate, when I see her................................
...........................................................................................................where was I .

i think that one is gt's fav one of scarlettjo
baseball is better when the yankees are bad

He knows it's one of my favorites. I have stated, although non brunette, she is a striking young woman.

I said consistently compete. Not just come out of nowhere one year and make a run. The small teams can collect talent if they spot it early, but they have no chance of keeping it together.

You can talk about the cards here. KRB and I are always talking about the games in several threads. Just thought I would put it in one place.
Hughes looked good last night. And it helped that the bats finally got started.

I walked into the bar around the 5th inning and it was 0-0. Then at the top of the 7th...things went crazy.

Joba is actually pitching tonight. I just don't think he is a starter. He doesn't have enough pitches...And it sucks that Girardi caved in regards to starting Joba under the Steinbrenner/media pressure.

Joba would have been a great reliever.

Saddam had not pitched well in years. He lost his Yakker. And he could no longer bring the cheese. However I do like the Gay Rod pic Poppa, funny as hell. You just watch when he comes back, we will suck even more probably.

I agree...I have a bad feeling about this year...<sigh>

And making fun of the diva is so much fun...
Yeah it is fun.

Why is his pinkie in the air as he lights this?
okay...last one and then I will quit..he just makes it too easy...

i dont think you need a high payroll to make the playoffs. Look at the Twins and the Oakland A's. They consistently yr in yr out are in the hunt for either the division or the wild card. I think the yankees problems is they have WAY WAY WAY to many chiefs and not enough indians!!
Why would I want a thread to read about yankees? It's bad enough when they talk and I have to figure out what they're saying.

I actually have a funny story about that topic.

when I was working for FedEx in Memphis, one of my co-workers was from Hernando and the other from Long Island. The two were talking and using phrases that would confuse the other. So I would explain what the other meant. I then laughed and said I could speak two different languages...North and South...

I agree...I remember when I first posted liking Jeter, someone posted this picture. The original picture is A-rod with his now ex-wife.

One of the top 5 crappy things about living in NYC is being surrounded by Yankees fans. Seriously. I hate the Yankees. Their fan base drives me nuts and most of the cool locals I meet are Mets fans... This is unique to the Yankees. Jets, Giants, Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Devils, etc. All tolerable to cool. Not the Yankees fans...

Kitten you are a SOUTHERNER! How can you root for a team called the YANKEES!?!?

And Jeter? We've talked about this. The guy covers more ground at the STD clinic than at shortstop.

I know we have covered it but I'm still in lust of him. And if the Braves had not traded David Justice in the 90s, I probably would still be a Braves fan. so blame the Braves.
Sundance you don't have to like them. When I was a kid, everyone here liked the cardinals. So I went with the Yankees. CBS owned the yankees, and they were on tv almost every weekend.

This was an era with three channels of tv. So it's cool if you dont' like the Yankees. Everyone has a right to like who they like. I wouldn't be to upset with the Yankees of late. They aren't beating anyone. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Completely different languages.
Joba is pitching tonight. I have mixed feelings regarding whether I want him to do well or not. I want the yanks to win but I want joba in the bullpen.

Give me my report later Kitten.

I understand, and I am not lumping you and Kitten with the local fan base. But the level of entitlement among Yankees fans in the city makes UK look like blushingly modest people.

We're all fans for odd reasons. I like the Bears b/c I thought the SBshuffle was great as a kid. Whatcha going to do? Kids choose their teams for odd reasons...
I grew up a Yankees fan, but I just couldn't pull for them anymore after they let Donald Arthur Mattingly hang up his spikes without a championship ring. Plus I grew up and realized that the Yankees are pure evil.....I kid I kid

I miss the blue collar Yanks too, even though they're not my team anymore.

Actually the problem is that Jeter doesn't 'cover' it...

... his position, that is... 03-wink
Joba struggled at first but once the yanks bats got the lead, he settled in.

Swish looks really good. Cano is on a 16 game hit streak. Joba just hit a batter. But it is really the batter's fault since he turned to bunt. Announcer just asked why do you bunt when you are down 8-1? Joba is now in the 7th which is good for bullpen.
Much better tonight.
