First the tsunami. Then the really bad hurricanes. Now an earthquake.
What in the world is going on? I wish George Bush would stop causing all of these natural disasters though.
And some meteorologists are expecting an above-average type of winter as well. Look at what is already happening over in Colorado. Granted it IS Colorado, but that's a pretty serious snowstorm... especially so early in the season. The destruction and chaos caused by these natural disasters isnt over for 2005 most likely.
It's really sad. How many billions of dollars are going to be spent on rebuilding? How many 1,000's of lives have been lost or affected?
It seems like once you start moving on after one of them another one hits.

These are signs that the end of the world is near. Of course, we know that no one knows the exact end time; however, signs will be given.
While some of the prophecies used in the New Testament by "end time" revivalists probably refer to the fall of Jerusalem to the Romans about A.D. 70, others seem to refer to the end of the world.
Get your spiritual house in order. Whether it is the end of the world or simply the end of our lives, we should be ready.
: ) (a smile, but not a joke)

Wow... Creoleman and I agree on something... I guess we should stick to non-sports topics and we would probably be better :)
I agree, I hope that this serves as a wakeup call to some people. Even if this isn't the end of the world, it does help us put things into perspective.
Does the Bible actually say there will be several signs before the coming of JC?
Personally, I think it will happen when it's least expected. People will be going about their normal lives and WAM!, JC just stepped out the clouds.
From Matthew, Chapter 24:
Quote:6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places: 8 all this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs. 9 "Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then many will fall away, and betray one another, and hate one another. 11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12 And because wickedness is multiplied, most men's love will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, as a testimony to all nations; and then the end will come.
Careful, STL.
The New Madrid has an excellent chance of producing a 6.0 or greater earthquake up near your area and has a greater potential for destruction than the California quakes.
Does your home insurance cover earthquake damage?

You just had to remind us that by being in Eastern Missouri, we sit on a more hazardous fault line than San Andreas, didn't you.
BTW, Memphis Blazer would be in trouble with this one, too. Computer models show both Memphis and St. Louis completely flattened by a 7.0 or greater ANYWHERE along the New Madrid fault. Most models predict upwards of 100,000 dead should it happen.
I had no idea that STL could be subject to a massive earthquake. Time to move!

I did a class project on the New Madrid Seismic Zone in college for a Geography course and was just amazed that it's not more well covered and prepared for than it is.
Any Fault Line that can produce earthquakes strong enough to make the Mississippi River flow backwards for days is a major threat.
I looked it up a few minutes ago and people are paying more attention to it after the hurricanes, particularly Katrina.
Interesting stuff. Maybe I should check my insurance through our HOA.
