I've read the stories the last couple of days about the Miss California answer to a pageant question and the ensuing outrage at her answers.
If anyone should be mad, upset, offended, shouldn't it be Miss California. Why would any judge be allowed to ask such a dividing question, especially when there could, and would, be such a horrible backlash if any answer but the one that the judge wanted to hear was given? She was put on the spot for her beliefs, something that she should not have to give up just because she is competing in a beauty pageant. If it were such a big deal that she succumb to one belief or another on a certain issue, why was it not addressed before she made it to the plateau of her pageant career?
The judge is saying that she should not have given such a divisive answer, but what about the divisive question? If the judge is truly looking for a Miss USA that represents all Americans as is stated, then why would you ask a question that is impossible for anyone to cater to all Americans with the answer they give? Another statement made by the judge was She should have left her politics and religion out of it, yet there is no way to answer that question without relying on your politics, and she never once said anything about her religion, she said it was the way she was raised. The last I checked, that wasn't religion. I was raised to brush my teeth every morning and every night, but I wouldn't call it my religion.
It was a classic case of I'm allowed my opinion, and I'm allowed to make it public, but, if you disagree with me, you should keep your mouth shut.
It doesn't matter what side of the issue you come down on. The subject of the question isn't what matters here. What matters is the fact that someone is receiving backlash for answering a question as a part of a competition, a purposefully divisive question, a question with a politcal agenda, and for not have the right opinion.
That should outrage you no matter where you stand.
You are still completely free to express your opinion...as long as it fits the liberal agenda that is crammed down our throats every day by the MSM.

Is this not what this thread is? She said something people disagree with. They are letting their disagreement be known.

That's not at all what this thread is. I'm not saying that the person who asked the question should not have his opinion, I'm saying that he needs the common sense to know that not everyone has the same opinion and you can't fault someone for not answering the question the way you wanted it. You have to take the answer and then go on with your life. You can't go on national news and say that someone should have danced around the question you asked rather than be straight-forward and give you an answer whether you like it or not. That's what's wrong with this nation as it is. No one can speak their mind because it may hurt someone else's fragile little feelings.
No where did I say that the opposing opinion should remain silent. What I am saying is that the very ones who want us to have an open mind to their lifestyle need to have an open mind to ours and realize that we aren't going to simply agree with them because they want us to. We have our reasons for disagreeing just like they have theirs.
Surely you have to see the insanity here. She was asked the question. She didn't parade around with a sash that said Miss California is against homosexual marriage.

Amen - he thought because of her age and her state, that she would endorse gay marriages, he should have done his homework. He was simply trying to promote his own agenda, using her as a vehicle.
We can respect others choices or "natural orientation" without agreeing with it. I lost what I thought was a friend because I questioned his homesexual lifestyle. All I was trying to do was get a better understanding because of my ignorance but it was either you are with me or against me. I challenged him to show me gay animals and then I may consider it natural, needless to say, that was our last conversation. If I wanted someone to see things from my point of view, I would answer their questions and ease their concerns, while giving my side of the story.

I see the insanity.
If you can't handle the answer, then you shouldn't ask the question.
There's another way to look at this though:
The question was a setup.
Berke Breathed had a great term for this in his old Bloom County comic:
OFFENSENSITIVITY
Don't know the judge, and I missed the pagent. I have seen the flack from it on TV shows from the "700 Club" to TV news to cable news outlets. No matter which "side" she took, she probably would have set off protests because there are many Americans who only see their side as the "right" side of most issues. Therefore, if you are different, you are "wrong". If you are very different, you are fanatically wrong and anti-American.
More of the same from "tolerant" liberals. They're all for freedom of speech & expression, as long as they agree with what's said. Perez "I take it in the butt" Hilton even called her a dumb bitch on youtube after the pageant. I think that there should be some sort of re-do because its obvious that his bias might have cost her the Miss USA title since she finished 2nd.
I still don't get it. She should have the right to have an opinion that I think it stupid as hell, but I'm not allowed to call her a dumb bitch if that's what I think?

No, just expect the same crap you dish out to come back to you. Don't ask question s that you really don't want the answer to. Most of the country happens to agree with her. Even most people in California, most liberal place on the planet, agrees with her. Be gay, be happy and don't get mad if others don't agree with your lifestyle. He was the dumb@ss that asked a question that he knew could be answered in a way to make him look like an idiot, she answered it honestly and the liberals didn't like it. You know they don't believe in saying what you mean, just say what others want to hear so they won't think your mean. But it's ok to call her a bitch? I thought men aren't suppose to call women... nevermind.
He's getting it, she just doesn't think he should.
You do have the right mixdup, but the judge of a major pageant is supposed to show at least a modicum of professionalism, not pout and throw a fit when a contestant gives a view that doesn't align with theirs.

No, you have that right. We all have that right. That's what I was getting at here. We've got to get past this, "I don't agree with you so I'm going to scream about it at the top of my lungs and try my best to prove how wrong you are" mentality.
I will say that he can do whatever he wants on his own time, but I have to think that if this is the way he is acting now, that he probably allowed it to reflect in his scores for her, possibly taking away the crown from her for an opinion that differs from his...that's wrong. She should have received higher marks than normal for taking a stand that she probably knew while she was giving the answer would cost her the crown.
When I saw the clip, starting with ex-Playmate Kelly Monaco asking a bank bailout question, I was *sure* it had to be a spoof and thought it was cool she would make fun of herself on the air.
As for Miss Cali? Manufactured controversy between manufactured personalities.
If you disagree with someone, state your opposing viewpoint and give your reasons. DO NOT make personal remarks (like "dumb bitch") which are not statements of support for your viewpoint. It is just name calling to label a person by attaching a perjorative label. It is not relevant to the issue being discussed.
Pretty, very religious, and dumb as a stick. Sounds like Vice Presidential material!

Despite all his plastic surgery, I still wouldn't call Biden pretty.

Quote:[Trump]also praised Prejean for being honest when she said she was against same sex marriage at last month's pageant. Trump said she gave a "very honest answer when asked a very tough question. Its the same answer that the President of the United States gave."
Apparently dumb enough to be president as well.
So if she gets stripped of her crown, does that set a precedent, meaning that Obama can be removed from office for giving the same answer?

I'll bet that little fact isn't exactly coming up on MSNBC.
Our president is a stupid, redneck, rightwing hatemongering homophobe!!!

Disagreeing with someone and tearing into them personally are two different things. Intelligent people can disagree without getting vicious and petty.

Ahem.......
Is Miss California now in jail!!!! ...uh, no.
Did Miss California have to vacate her crown!!!!!......uh, no.
There's been no punishment here, nor should there be. But, if you chose to come down on ANY side of a controversal subject, expect to hear from the other side. If you don't like the game, you should get out of the game.

True, but this lady as asked this question during a competition, and her answer affected her outcome in the competition. Instead of looking to see if she articulated her answer with poise and grace, the judge who asked the question was just looking to see if she would answer that way "he" wanted her to, and since she didn't that could have cost her the title.
Y'all have fallen for the Vanessa Williams of 2009. She's parlayed reasonable looks and nice breasts into profitable celebrity.
Without using the google, can you name the WINNER of Miss USA?
