I think Cal is a class act and didn't want to spit in the face of all the powerful Memphis boosters who came to ask him to stay.
IMHO he is giving us an overnight "sleep on it" as a way of showing it is an agonizing decision (which I really believe it is) and as a way to pay respect to those who have supported him so long; I will always respect Cal and love him for his time here.
