Andy Katz just said on the 5 PM Sports Center, that John Calipari would be very interested in that job if it was offered to him. He also said that he would be able to bring Cousins and Wall with him if her were to go there.
well I heard Cal say he wasnt interested so I am going to listen to Cal

1000
he must have missed Cals comments today
Vitale just said that there are only two guys that would be able to handle KY....Calipari and Rick Barnes from Texas.
I guess he didn't watch the interview at the airport where Cal said he wasn't going anywhere! DUH!

Because they haven't signed. Wasn't he offerred the job 2 years ago and turned it down. Could have brought Rose w/ him then. 03-idea
Cal said what he was supposed to say at that point. It's just like a college player saying that he is coming back for his senior season and then declaring for the draft. He said what he was supposed to say because he's barely unpacked his bags when he made those comments.
thats correct. my source tells me that Cal is here until he retires in about 5-6 years for a leaving ESPN announcers job

You obviously don't know Cal very well to write this.

Katz is the one who said "Memphis isn't going anywhere. Get used to it". He's not a hater.

you can't link to a TV screen
I think he'd at least listen and honestly he'd be silly not to. Every time someone's been interested in him he's at least gone and listened to what they have to say. Then he comes home and gets more money outta RC and FedEx. I don't know if he has actual interest in Kentucky or if this is just another strategic move by Cal to get more money.

are you a troll
I watched the interview on My Fox news. He never affirmatively stated "I am not interested in the KY job." He did say my name will be tied to all kind of jobs and this is where I want to be. But I'll be more comfortable when there is a more definite statement.

Believe me, I bleed blue, but that interview at the airstrip was not the relaxing statement I was looking for.

I'm a U of M student who figured people on this board would be interested in what I just saw on Sports Center. I go to the university, love the tigers, went to most of the basketball games this year, i even went to half of the football games. I just figured people might want to be informed, but i can tell most of you would rather live in fantasy land.
Sorry, his exact words are "I want to be here. This is where I want to coach. But my name will tied to every job that is offered." Then he quickly changes the subject.

I'm not real nervous, but not exactly completely content either.
Check out this post on Catspause:

"2 of the 3 current Memphis committs haven't signed LOI so they could definately go...good thing the 2 are Cousins and Henry...I'm telling you if we get Cal, those 2 come with Patterson, Pilgrim, Meeks, Miller, Orton, Hood we can start hanging banners next year...if Wall comes then it's a DONE DEAL just give us the trophy now and we can have a year long celebration...c'mon Mitch get this guy HERE!!"

Wow. Just wow.
No Dane, you're right. He's going to hear what they have to say.

We just gotta hope whatever they put on the table, we can compete with.

I dont have a link ptmg but I watched it on SC too....think Katz is full of (&()&()

Cal has said from almost day 1 he has people who keep his name floating around in the coaching circles. These are probably Katz "contacts". And, I think Cal has more reasons to stay right now than to go... He aint going anywhere right now.
He never gives that definite statement. It happens every year.
I'm watching SC and never heard him say "Cal is interested."

I did hear "KY is interested in Cal." and "Cal would be great for KY." but never that HE was interested.

"I want to be Here" words from Cal's mouth not Fantasy Island

Henry has not signed a LOI?

Damn. I didn't realize that.

I heard Cal say in an interview that the only reason he does the TV and radio thing is for recruiting purposes. I'm sure if the right offer came along, he'd do it. It's like he's a natural.
Oh good grief. This whole thread is whack. Too much misinformation to correct. Let it go.

Wow. Just wow.

I'm pretty sure X Henry has signed...the only way he gets out is if the U of M lets him out. Which we will probably do...we're not Arizona or K State. But it won't matter if Cal does decide this is home and he isn't leaving.

Cal does not need any more money,,,, what he needs is for Memphis to be committed to being the #1 program in the country ...as long as we are committed to do that he is here.

If you cannot see this you are just not very smart ... the ONE YEAR he was lowballed on ***. salaries he almost bolted {(and would have if the lowball offer had held.

If Cal leaves it is because he has lost his mind or we have run him off by not being committed to being the #1 program in the country.

neither did Cal ... or Kansas since Cal has been publically talking about Henry since signing day ..

...all of this talk is being fronted by hopeful KY-U fans and by media types that are trying to hurt our program.
Is Katz ever in the know? He always seems to get outscooped.
Andy Katz loves to be the one breaking the news so he can say "he is the sh*t in the world of college basketball insiders"... Cal is not going anywhere...
(03-27-2009 05:08 PM)thedanetrain Wrote: [ -> ]Vitale just said that there are only two guys that would be able to handle KY....Calipari and Rick Barnes from Texas.

I don't know about Barnes but I agree with him about Cal. Cal could and would deal with the pressure.....since he wouldn't perceive it as pressure. He'd just be Cal..........The pressure has to do with worrying about your job. I don't believe Cal ever has to worry about being employed.......and he knows it.
The good news in all this is that it will be over quickly. Cal has John Wall to worry about and won't let anything fester long enough for Wall to change his mind.

Cal does not need any more money,,,,

You were aware I was talking about JOHN Calipari right? not some other Calipari?

Even your beloved Dan Wolken had an article when the Arizona rumors began at the beginning of the season saying that if anyone though Cal would take a pay cut then they don't know him very well. Money is important to him, just like it is to the rest of us.

Cal will not take less to coach here ...

but

He will make more coaching here than anywhere else, therefore money is not a consideration ...

In Truth Cal does not NEED anymore money ...
