Any truth to the rumor that Niles is going to be arrested next Thursday and charged for assaulting a student at last years game?

I do know that assault charges were filed against him after that incident. I do not know whether those charges are still intact or not. If they are and there is a warrant, I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen. Of course this is Birmingham and I wouldn't be surprised to see a warrant ignored either.

And FYI, people on the court is not illegal in Alabama, especially not in a publicly owned building. The best they could charge someone with is failure to obey a police officer, that is if they can find one that was their and could remember who they told what.

And of course, it's linked back on empty.org. The UAB circle jerk continues. And we're the ones obsessed? I'm just looking forward to playing Tulane on Wednesday.

Assumed wrong, I did. ( I am setting you folks up for the kill shot here) I also did not realize there were charges. I am amazed that was kept under wraps. I really don't know what to say. It's midemeanor assault--and now we are getting into a slippery territory. PHN can say he felt threatened as the gentleman in question seemed to be charging him. ( LOL ) Spitting is also assault . I'm not saying anyone did or didn't, either, BTW. I wonder what Ron Artest has to say about all of this.

Whether the rumor is true or not, I wonder if the Memphis Athletic Office will be calling the Birmingham courts to see if there is an open warrant on file and determine whether Niles should make the trip or not. I'm sure they will come up with some excuse about it not being a safe environment for Niles to be in.

What blazerjay posted is pretty much exactly what I heard, that a complaint was filed last year after it happened and that it hadn't gone away, that charges stemming from it might be forthcoming. I don't know one way or another, I am just passing on an unconfirmed rumor as just that: a rumor.

Just a question----would you as UAB fans want Niles charged and arrested? Or do you want the whole thing to just go away. The incident was good for no one. Outside of our rivalry ( I said it) few people get the Orange Jumpsuit anyway. And to be fair, didn't ya'll have 5 arrested that same year? Similiarities make rivalries-----

To answer your question, no. I don't really want that to happen. No one got hurt, and in my mind, and the whole incident has been blown about as far out of proportion as possible. Arresting Niles would turn what's already a chippy rivalry into a nasty one, and I, for one, don't want that.

I'm curious to see the reaction if/when Niles gets into the game, though. There's a side of me that wants to cheer, because no matter what else happens, that promises to be one of the more entertaining moments of the night. I hope Niles is a good sport, or (and honesty compels me to add this) at least more of a good sport than he was a year ago.
