Kind of a rough week for the new guy (technology snafus, butting heads with the press, his press secretary blurting out names when he wasn't supposed to, and being called arrogant by members of The Vatican) and now he's battling with Rush Limbaugh through the press and telling Republican Senators during arguments that he won and will trump them. There are also unconfirmed reports that during a pickup game of basketball President Obama disagreed with a foul called by another player so he got mad, took his ball, and went home.

Quote:WASHINGTON -- President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.

"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts.

"There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats," the official said. "We shouldn't let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done."

That wasn't Obama's only jab at Republicans today.

In an exchange with Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) about the proposal, the president shot back: "I won," according to aides briefed on the meeting.

"I will trump you on that."

When GWB won his election I didn't notice the Republicans expending much tender sympathy on what the Democrats wanted. The attitude was "I have a mandate, and I'll do what I came here to do". Never mind that the mandate was one vote on the Supreme Court, and an outright loss in the popular vote.

The R's have taken a thumping the last two elections because their policies failed and people had a bellyful of them. I love how they bare-knuckled the Dems for years but now that the shoe is on the other foot they expect the Dems to be all bipartisan, carefully considering whether a bill's passage will upset the poor Republicans.

And their policies looked a lot like the big government, big spending that the Dems are wanting to keep on doing. I guarantee you Limbaugh was not for any such plans.
The Dems have had control of Congress for two years but did nothing of substance during that time.

I thought we agreed this was going to be called "pulling a T-Rod" from now on.
A wise man once said "Cosmo ain't ever in a happy home" and he was right too. But you know it is our difference of opinion that makes this nation great. Obama is just going to have to get past Limbaugh making a real good living for 4 years.

Really? Eight years later and your guy in the White House, and you are still crying about the 2000 election? Nevermind the fact that it was proved that Bush did indeed win Florida, and thus the majority of elctoral votes. Nevermind the fact that per our Constitution the national popular vote is irrelevant. Nevermind the fact that I'm sure you never read the opinion in Bush v. Gore, but you still talk out of your *** about it. Get over it- you've got your guy now.
If he's letting Rush Limbaugh get to him, imagine what it's going to be like when the president of Iran or Russia or North Korea starts talking trash.

When a child (Bush) controls the veto power, nothing does.

You mean that power that he almost never used?

He never used it when his yes-men where in control, 2000-2006. But, he and the Republicans filibustered and vetoed lots of bills. The Republicans set a 2 year record for the most filibusters that will be unbreakable.

They didn't have control of Congress. They had a majority. They couldn't stop the Republican filibusters, and Bush vetoed more legislation in the last two years than he did during his first six. You can't do much with a majority in Congress if you can't get cloture on debate or have a two-thirds majority to override a veto.

The fault lies on both sides of the aisle. The bitter, partisan politics that have evolved since Watergate have all but ruined our democracy and our standing in the world.

Wasn't it Washington who advocated against political parties?

Yeah, and he also warned about getting into entangling alliances, being the world's police, and basically every other stupid decision our leaders have made since shortly after Washington left office.
