Apparently our conference mates have a problem with some of Tommy's postgame comments concerning the BCS.

Good.

He deserves it.

It was a stupid thing to say after that performance.
exactly. If you say dumb **** expect to get called on it.

Couldn't agree more
He was so cavalier after the game and even sounded pleased with the team and the staffs performance......sad

Why wouldn't he be pleased? We were 5 plays away from being 10-3.
I was PISSED at the post game presser for the UofmanyL's game, and this one just makes me scratch my head.

It's becoming more, and more clear that TW knows hes got the U of M by the nads...

I want angry TW back.

If he can't come back...well then, maybe its time for someone to come in here.

Kudos to TW and maybe more importantly to Jimmy Sexton.
I like this one....

Quote:Rice
"We're pretty good at throwing it and catching it. But when you're a tier 4 team playing a tier 1 team, to play on that stage you have to match what they do, and you have to get more physical," West said. "You could see today why they're a tier 1 team and we're not."

Marshall
"We're pretty good at throwing it and catching it. But when you're a team without a Matthew McConaughey movie playing a team with a Matthew McConaughey movie, to play on that stage you have to match what they do, and you have to get more physical," West said. "You could see today why they're a team with a Matthew McConaughey movie and we're not."

ECU
"We're pretty good at throwing it and catching it. But when your team's coach doesn't have a famous dad playing a team whose coach does have a famous dad, to play on that stage you have to match what they do, and you have to get more physical," West said. "You could see today why their team's coach has a famous dad and ours does not."

UCF
"We're pretty good at throwing it and catching it. But when you're a Tennessee team playing a Florida team, to play on that stage you have to match what they do, and you have to get more physical," West said. "You could see today why they're a Florida team and we're not."
Funny though is...that the Defenders are getting fewer, and fewer in number.

+1000

TW just doesn't seem to get it anymore.

Bingo.
So?
The bowl game was pitiful and I sorta agree with Dickie V.
If you don't have a winning record, you shouldn't be at a bowl.
6-6 just isn't a bowl team, not with our schedule anyway. jmho
For the players and the effort they gave, let them play in the bowl game and have a trip to a nice warm place in December, just don't televise to the rest of the world.
Very interesting thread, its good to know that at least some people aren't buying the soft peddle stuff that Tommy is selling. The media here still loves him here though which also is helping him stick around. I don't know if I wanna come right out and say fire him now at this point but since everyone is telling me next year is the year we'll see. If he doesn't win his side of the conference at least if not the whole league then he should go. This was end of year 8 and it ended with a whimper. 9 seasons should be enough time for anyone to get it done. Heck 5 should really but even for the Tommy Defenders if he hasn't done it by next year with all this "talent" sitting out from transfers, when will he get it done?

So true, this time last year if you used the m-word (mediocre) you were immediately banished to the smack board. Now it seems that using the m-word is being kind.
I defend the program FIRST above any individual player or coach.

West has gotten the program above where it was. I don't think anyone denies that. At the same time it is obvious the crowd has grown beyond the "bowl game" goal. 5 times in 6 years - with 3 losses - is not enough. We all hope a C-USA title and hopefully a BCS buster season is around the corner.

If the people that pay the REAL salaries decide West is done, then he is done. His contract will be bought out and the eighth head football coach in 30 years will be ushered in to great fanfare and anticipation.

Give West some credit for pointing out the state of the facilities, though. If he is fired today and the next coach brought in, that issue is STILL here. That is truth and cannot be denied just as West not yet winning C-USA cannot be denied. Both are hard realities MEMPHIS and its fans must grasp.

Is West the answer? He may or may not be. That is not my call to make. Whoever makes that call - and is NOT R.C. - I hope the correct decision is made. This University has done the revolving door thing with football coaches for most of my adult life.

My efforts are geared to supporting the program. Like some of you, I buy season tickets, buy bowl game tickets, and donate as possible to TSF and any special project such as the weight room effort.
My commitment is to do that REGARDLESS of who the head coach is.

Let's cut to the chase, shall we?

I think a lot of TIGER fans TALK about change but do little else to promote it. IF there is a dedicated nucleus of TIGER fans that have the ultimate objective being to bring in a new football coach to secure the C-USA title and get MEMPHIS into a BCS conference, then I SERIOUSLY recomend you rally with those who want change.

The goal of this group should be to collect the monies to have West bought out. I think it is $3.2mm or whatever Sexton has set up. That will demonstrate your commitment for change. Yes, that money COULD be donated toward the weight room or the IPF (future), BUT think of the daring statement that would make.

Everyone has a choice in the direction of this football program.

Choose wisely.
Everyone should be upset. This is no different than what RoboDoh said. Funny thing is, other non bcs schools have defeated BCS schools. I guess Tommy isnt aware of this. I am beginning to jump on the "fire Tommy' bandwagon after this. There was no reason to even bring up the BCS crap at all. He should have had this team more prepared. Football is pitiful and reverting to back to what we were.
It is what it is. We'll see again in August.

Sexton can ask for whatever he wants RC agreed to a fully guaranteed contract that is very one sided towards West.

West seems to act like a guy who WANTS to be fired, (and still get his 3 million).
I have a question regarding his buyout.

If Tommy is , like many have said, a good man, with a great heart, and believes in doing things right, should he ask for that kind of money if asked to resign? Just wondering how "good" of a man , he really is.
We sure do put up with a lot of BS.
madtiger Wrote:I want angry TW back.

Yeah me too, what happened to the coach that was 2 seconds away from stomping a mudhole in Jackie Sherill's chest? That's who we need.

I think Tommy is way overpaid and that RC should be invesitgated for public corruption over the contract,

BUT

Why inthehell would Tommy do that?

If RC cobbles together the $$$ to fire Tommy, the Classy thing for Tommy to do is to thank RC, thank the fans, wish us all well and to ride of into the sunset with exactly what his contract stipulates... why would we expect anything different?

Nobody is that "good".
I guess Va.Tech and W.Virginia weren't playing with BCS players when E.Carolina beat them....All we get are excuses and this one is the dumbest and worst of them all. Tommy should be ashamed of himself for making such a dumb statement.
Although I feel that TW is a very mediocre coach even during the DWs days, I do believe he has recruited decent CUSA caliber talent. One of these days TW willl have a breakout season i.e. 10-2 or better if scheduling remains the same. The talent, of course, will have to overcome TW's coaching i.e. the Cowboys with Barry Switzer that one year. I can see it happening.
it is what it is
