I got an e-mail from a friend today about an armed robbery of some friends at the Fox & Hound in East Memphis in the last few days.
2:30 in the afternoon, pouring rain, four friends coming out of the restaurant. A car pulls up to the door, two teens jump out with guns drawn, told them to hit the ground and demanded their wallets and jewelry, putting a gun to each person's head.
License plate info was gotten, but the car may have been stolen.
Just a reminder, you are not safe ANYWHERE in Memphis, not East Memphis, not Poplar Plaza, not Cordova, and on and on. Be especially alert at this time of year.

Holy Sheet! Sometimes I think I want to move back some day, sometimes not so much.
Cops are going to make a statement soon.
At least, that is how it used to be.
Fortunately, I've never been robbed at gunpoint but I have been robbed. Good ole' Memphis. I love it.
Honestly, this world sucks. People suck. That is how crap like this makes me think.
Per Cyberwatch, no armed robberies have been reported there during the last two weeks. My 'hood, so to speak.
That being said and having worked in Clark Centre for the last five years, cars are broken in to regularly.
In fact, some of the crooks are so brazen they walk in to offices at lunch time and steal purses, laptops, etc. They just try to blend in.
Nothing new. One woman's nose was blown off and another woman killed by the same bullet one day while I was at work at Houlihan's in Park Place Mall back in '88 or so. Bad guys follow the money.
We're living in pre-Batman Gotham City.

Actually post Batman Gotham City.
RIP Batman.

Over at Clark Tower the thugs brazenly come into the parking garage and take what they want at will. Steal cars, smash windows and steal items in the cars. Heck they even jacked up some SUV and stole the rims off of it. It was just sitting on blocks afterwards. So much for Central Defense Security patroling the garage.
I'm all good though.

It just occurred to me that if I move back, I need to be packin', lol.

They're probably the ones doing the stealing.
I owe the board an apology. I am pretty good about checking things out on Snopes before I pass them along, but this one came with a long string of forwards by people I know.
Seems that it is just an Memphis urban legend that has been circulating on the internet for a few years. I wondered why I never heard anything about it on the news. And I guess that is good, that such an awful thing did not occur.
But still better to be alert at all times in Memphis. This city is just shy of being the wild, wild West. You had better believe it. And if I was not a lifelong Memphian, I would not consider living here for one second, even though I love this city and I love my Tigers. Things are really, really out of hand here. I went to Spin Street tonight in Poplar Plaza, with the thought in the back of my mind of the lady who was executed in a drive-by shooting right there very recently.

Typical woman
Minus the apologizing part....

Merry Christmas, UofMCamaro.

:)
Merry Christmas to you too!
No need to apologize 21-17. I think an older couple was robbed outside the Doubletree not too long ago. Thefts from vehicles in that lot shared by the hotel and the strip center were weekly if not more frequent until recently.
We moved out in June. Some security upgrade must have been made.
Christmas Eve per MPD Cyberwatch:
Someone was robbed of $5,000 cash at the 5100 block of Sanderlin.
Fox is at 5101.
