Full Version: Davis is more hype than substance

According to Davis last year's team was suppose to be NCAA bound but instead it ended with a beat down in the 2nd round of the NIT.

This year he was suppose to sign the #1 class in America but instead he's made to look foolish by the #1 recruit in the class.

We have no inside game on this year's team and that will cost us some games we could/should win. That's because he put his faith in what could've been and not in what is.

We have had more players sign and leave, declared ineligible, commit and de-commit, than I care to count. We have payed this guy more than any coach that we've had, yet he's hasn't done what they all did.

We follow him blindly, eventhough we can tell where we've been, we don't know where he's going. He has promised great players, yet most of the starters (after 3 years) are from another guys recruiting.

If we are paying him for hype, then he's underpaid, if we are paying for results then we are do a refund. We blame the media for not lifting us up, I blame Davis for letting us down.

We drink the kool-aid and make excuses on his behalf, I say there's no excuse for a half @ss job.

Some of you are going to read this and get upset, defend coach, and make more excuses and to that I say, we have been upset more than we have upset others. If we could've defended the guy from Tulsa then Davis could be excused for over-hyping and under delivering.

I had to vent and now I will enjoy the rest of this season and wait until next year because like always, it will be the best one yet.

Damn

We haven't even lost a game yet. 03-melodramatic
Fact Check

-2 starters were recruited by a previous coach, which is less than half.
-Signing the #1 class is still a possibility, unless you, like the Bham News, dont count recruits signed in the Spring.

+1 cb.

"He has promised great players, yet most of the starters (after 3 years) are from another guys recruiting. "

PD3 and Kinnard are XCMA's recruits. Vaden, AJ, and Toney are CMD's recruits.

3 > 2

And maybe we shouldn't pass too much judgment on not signing Cousins early. He hasn't signed anywhere else yet, so nobody knows how that's going to end up.

Listen Dude
EVERYBODY who know me in this message know that I am not wearing green and gold when I am speaking of coach Davis

We didn't make the tournament because team like Kentucky use a spot without earning it (just compare UAB RESUME VS KENTUCKY RESUME)
We were not attractive like the Mike anderson era (both ncaa invitation we were one of the last team in)

We lost all the big because the greek project left with his coach , another one his father didn't like the coach , another found that uab college is too difficults

Cousin didn't sign with anobody so far and the recruiting class need to be judge when they start to play

So far the season if not over after one half (first year ) or two games(second year)
If we beat ODU , anything can happen on national tv againts OU
I dont expect OU to get all the call like zona

Nike davis lost 400 k in this salary this year (money for IU).
IF he make the ncaa , graduate his PLAYER and increase the attendance ...his salary will increase

Cousin will play for Nike Davis and if nd coach UAB .Cousin will play for UAB
UAB show to everbody that nobody is bigger then UAB , not even cousin , or the best cardiac surgeon or the best pediatric liver transplant anesthesiologist 03-lmfao

Are you from Indiana dude or are you a crazy IU fan
There's only two players on the entire team from XCMA's years here. Unless Crawford was one of his recruits. But I don't think he was.
That was fast....
This isn't about this season, it's about Davis' job evalution up until this point. I waited until after the early signing period to vent, now that I have I will move on. I hope this a very successfull year but I also want a coach who will build a program and not one good year every now and then.

I will not say another negative thing about the program, or Davis, until after the season and only if it's warranted.

GO Blazers! Beat ODU
Ok - 3 is greater than 2 but 3 is 1/3 of 9 and that's after three years and 5 signing periods.

I am an idiot, a tool, but I'm not from Indiana and I take offense to that one. Alabama born, Alabama bread and when I die, I'll be an Alabamian dead but I live in Georgia now.

If looking at the program objectively is a negative thing, then I guess that's what I am. If wanting what's BEST for UAB make me an outsider then that's what I'll be. If you have to call me names because I disagree with you then you have a problem and you need to deal with it. I'm not here to offend anyone but if I do, I apologize in advance. I have a habit of calling things like I see them and not like others want me to.

Just kidding - I think

Hope you feel better.
Glad we could be here to help.
I have been one of Davis's biggest critics on this board, but I have come around. To be disappointed that we are not living up the hype means that you bought the hype. I believed that Davis can bring in a good recruiting class, but I have never bought the #1 recruiting class line. I don't call it hype. It is salesmanship. When he is saying things like that, he isn't talking to the fans, he is talking to the recruits.

And while I gave Davis hell for last years results, we still came within a millisecond in the Memphis game of going to the NCAA. And that was with Delaney's injury and the Daytona implosion.

There are probaly about 20-30 teams every year where if one thing falls right, they are in the NCAA's and if one thing falls wrong they are on the outside looking in. And that one thing usually doesn't involve coaching or how someone plays. It's just dumb luck. Everyone always remembers the dumb luck that kept them out and looks for someone to blame. No one remembers the dumb lucky thing that happened to get them in. For example, if Arizona fails to make the NCAA, the UAB game and Hornes' play will be blamed. However, if we just barely make it into the tournament, no one is going to look back and say, well we probably don't belong because we got lucky on Horne's play.

And for this year, the team is playing great. They faltered a little late against Arizona, but they didn't fold. As a result, they are headed to the Mecca of college basketball with 3 other top teams. They are the early season Cinderella.
As for Cousins, screw him. He is unmanageable. I don't think Davis or anyone else can manage his ego. If he ends up here, it will be ugly and we will be glad to see him go. We will win games and get press, but we will probably get just as much negative press.
i wouldnt trade davis for a coach k, bob knight (regardless of ethics, he was one of the best coaches ever to step foot on a court), or any other coach for that fact. CMD cares about this program, and feels at home here. That's what we need here, and i truly feel that he is part of the UAB family. He has my full support.

really guy, we just beat ZONA at their house, took more fans on the road then a home team had, and started season 3-0. last year, UAB would have lost at least one of the first three games. STAY POSITIVE, and i don't care whether you like CMD or not, he deserves all of our respect.

I BELIEVE

And maybe we shouldn't pass too much judgment on not signing Cousins early. He hasn't signed anywhere else yet, so nobody knows how that's going to end up.

Also, should be noted that Mayfield has not worked out to date but was a top recruit nationwide and if not for the coaching shake-up would be playing for Oklahoma. A.J. would have been a 4-5 star recruit if he was over 6 ft tall due to the fact he was very competitve in head to head match-ups with Derrick Rose. And, T-Rod may end up being the best on the team.

Crawford was an Anderson recruit.
Wow. You'd think we weren't 3-0, or something.
It will be easy to tell who is going to win the game tomorrow by the 10 minute mark of the 1st half. ODU is a young and streaky team. Solid low post play and suspect perimeter shooting. Gerald Lee is a rising star in the CAA at 6'10. I see UAB pressing the in bounds off made shots then going exclusively zone making ODU's guards win with outside shots. We knocked down almost 50% from 3's against Charlotte on the road which will be tough to duplicate. UAB had took it to us last time out. Home court may make this one real interesting as ODU is solid in own house. Matchup is Ben Finney on Vaden. Finney is above average defender and athletic. Road trip to Norfolk early AM with alum peeps. Go Monarchs!

I'm certain of one thing.....it will be a hard fought game, it always is with you guys (I rememeber the sunbelt wars).

If your team concentrates on Vaden too much, you will loose this game, if you ignore him, he will light you up. Paul Delaney, Lawrence Kinnard, Terrance Roderick are very dangerous and good defense must be played on each one of them.
Should be fun.
