So I'm pretty sure were done recruiting for the 09 class and it looks like we picked up a solid SG in Sean Kilpatrick but it's been very quiet on the hoops recruiting front in the 2010 class. I know Adreian Payne and Jalen Kendrick are priority numbers 1 and 2 (anyone know where we stand with them?) but who else are we looking at? This is what I've gathered...
PG's- no idea until Teague in the 2011 class
SG's- Brandon Spearman (4 star): Good player out of Chicago, I think we have a good shot at him.
-Trevis Simpson (4 star): Another good prospect out of Georgie, Cincy is pretty high on his list
-Langston Galloway (4 star): Out of LA, could be tough to get him away from SEC territory but he mentions us consistently
SF's- Jalen Kendrick (almost 5 star): really a must get in this class, he's a big fan of the BE from what I heard, I think it could come down to us and GTown (he's got a good friend going to GTown...)
-Allen Payne maybe?
PF's- Brandon Mobley (high 3 star): Athletic forward has us high on his list, a lot of upside with this guy
C's- Adreian Payne (5 star): Biggest upside of any prospect in the 2010 class, I'd hate to lose him to OSU but that's what it is looking like :(
Of these prospects I'd love to see us get Kendrick, Payne, and Mobley or Spearman. Spearman is one of the best defenders in the 2010 class and has a great all around feel for the game, and Mobleys versatility and upside make him one of the more intriguing players we are recruiting, could be like a poor man's Anthony Randolph. Both would be great gets...
Haven't heard much regarding Payne from anywhere lately. I believe he is OSU's to lose but really haven't heard any favorites mentioned lately. More of a feeling than anything.

While I don't necessarily think it's true, I was told by a friend that it seems WVU has been moving up his board. My bet would still be on OSU as well.
OSU book it probably will announce after his HS season is over.
Jayvaughn Pinkston, 6’6 junior forward. 23 pts.
Absolute animal under the basket and will only get better with time. Sets the tone for his team and is capable of taking over a game. Good defense for his size. Moves adequately for a big man.
According to Loughlin head coach Rudy King following the game, Pinkston has offers from USC,
Cincinnati, Ohio St, St. Johns, West Virginia, Louisville and Connecticut.

Thanks for the post and link Bearcat04. Sounds like a pretty legit player!
Don't bet the ranch that UC is done tinkering with the 09' roster.

He is steadily developing his WG skills and he is physically a beast. As of right now he is a tweener though but it sounds like he has been putting in the work to become a solid 3 man.

totally agree rath. i gotta think we're going to bring in a backup PG for next year. no way mick gets caught with his pants down again after the injury to Cashmere this year. probably an experienced juco or late bloomer senior. just my 2 cents....
I hope like heck Mick is bringing in another PG next year. This team cannot get in any offensive sets due to nobody being strong enough with the ball to get into anything. If we had Cash this year we could have won another couple games and would be much, much better of a team enabling Deonta playing the 2...

The problem is all the 3s UC has SUCK!!! Bishop is absolutely horrible on the offensive end, he cant make any kind of wide open shot whatsoever, he has not improved his passing or ball handling skills one bit. Davis brings nothing to the table other than hitting an occasional 3 point shot, Mitchell is a complete disaster.
They definitely need a PG but they need a legit 3 who can play on both ends of the court. None of them can.
What's amazing to me is that two guys that were very good scorers in HS, Bishop and Mitchell, haven't barely been able to buy a bucket since stepping foot in Clifton.

That is it! The core of the rebuilding here was last year's freshmen class. Neither Mitchell or Bishop can shoot, Davis is only slightly better, Belton is hurt and Biggie hardly ever sees the court.

I'm holding out hope that Mitchell is gonna be a player. I feel he's a classic case of Eric Hicks. Needs to get kicked in the *** and find his role and commence to dominate. I have faith in Mitch.
The problem is that the Bearcats will enter next season just like this season. Only 1 PG on the roster and being 1 inury away from the mess of an offense we're seeing now. They need another answer at PG besides Cashmere. A JUCO guy would be a good move but they haven't any scholarships for one, do they? If it's Mike Williams for a 6th year or a 2nd PG, I'm taking the PG.
Unless someone shows a heretofore unseen ability to play PG, I think there is no way Mick puts all his eggs in the Cash basket again next year especially coming off an injury. A JUCO would make the most sense if he can get permission from Queen Z.

I'm not holding out hopes for a PG considering UC is already at 15 on the roster next year, 2 over the scholly limit.

UC is at 13 on the roster for next year. Thomas makes the full 13 this season. Kilpatrick is slated for Williams' spot. If Williams gets a 6th year, we have one too many.

No permission needed. Have qualifying transcript, will travel. UC will have a JUCO PG on the team next year. Only question is which one.
I'd be willing to put a lot of money on 2 guys from this year not being here next year and of course there could be more.
One is 24 and has a wife and kid.

Marquis Teague will not wear a Bearcats uniform. His father played for Rick at Boston College.
At least at this point in time, Payne wll not play for UC either.
Coaching changes could happen and all bets would then be off.

True. You have passed the test, young Jedi in training, though I feel you have information you are witholding regarding the facts of the association of Teague's father and Pitino, and thank you for not saying anything about my Payne comment.
Your respected elder, OUChf.
Edit, I see by your later post that you have finally given up your knowledge. B.U. it is.
For what its worth, when showing Wake Forest highlights tonight during the UNC-UVA game, Fran Fraschilla mentioned Marquis Teague, saying that Jeff Teague had a younger brother and that his father played for Pitinio at Boston U, and that he guaranteed Pitino would not let the younger Teague son get away from.
So how did Jeff Teague get away? Not good enough for Pitino or the connection not as strong as that.
Take a tv analyst's comments for what they are worth.
The kid's been here a few times, right? Seems like he has some pretty strong interest here.
We'll see what happens. Not predicting Mick lands him, just we have to wait and see.
Listening to the postgame show today, Mick may have given us a little hint. He mentioned that there may be another PG addition next year. He was talking about our lack of depth there, and mentioned Cash. Then he mentioned that there is a possibility of another PG.

This is no secret, there is going to be another pg added, I have no idea who it will be but it will be the best JUCO or HS pg he can get to come to UC, but the question is not if but who

6-9 SF Brandon Mobley of Savannah is a major USC target, and he continues to like the Gamecocks, but he says right now Cincinnati is his favorite. "I just like the atmosphere from when we (AAU team) played there last year," Mobley said. "South Carolina would be second. They're close to home. I talk to South Carolina at least once a week." Mobley said the rest of his top five is Tennessee, Indiana and Missouri. He currently is attending a camp in Rhode Island. In July he will be all over the country playing in AAU tournaments.

Kendrick is up to #4 in the latest Rivals150. Payne drops to #20.

Quote:The top three of the Rivals150 stands steady with top point guard Brandon Knight holding No. 1. Right behind him is the top wing prospect Harrison Barnes and then the top post player Jared Sullinger.
Following these three, however, there is a shift in the rankings. Do-everything perimeter player Jelan Kendrick continues his ascension up the rankings, registering at No. 4. A potential point guard at 6 feet 6, Kendrick is a supreme playmaker with a unique feel for the game.
Brazilian big man Fabricio de Melo rounds out the top five after opening eyes at the NBA Players Association Top 100 Camp with his skilled play both in the post and on the perimeter.
In the second half of the top ten, there are three new comers. Josh Selby secured the No. 2 point guard position and sits at No. 7 overall. Reggie Bullock, behind his athleticism and deep shooting ability, is now the top shooting guard and No. 8 overall. And the naturally talented Perry Jones is putting things together on the court and snagged the No. 9 spot.
Unranked to Four-Stars
Several players worked their way into the Rivals150 and earned an extra star over the last two months. Natural playmaker Keala King secured the No. 35 spot. Athletic, smooth shooting wings Justin Coleman and Rion Brown are also now four-star prospects. And post players James Johnson and Baye Moussa Kieta landed in the top 100.
High Risers
Stacey Poole is now a five-star after proving he is one of the top scoring wings in the class. His travel team teammate Patric Young is knocking on the five-star door. Versatile big man Michael Cobbins has impressive upside and a top 40 ranking. And heady, multi-dimensional forward Evan Smotrycz impressed in June and is now a top 75 prospect.

Mobley is a 4 who thinks he is a 3. The comparison he gave me was Ronald Allen. A big guy who wants to spend too much time on the perimeter and should really focus on improving his low post game. Said there is potential if he would work on his inside game, but it doesn't appear if he is interested in doing that at all. He can shoot the three ball but doesn't have the footwork or handles to play on the perimeter. He has good shot blocking abilities.

Being compared to Ron Allen = fail.
The Ron Allen comparison was just simply trying to say that the kid is convinced he can play a certain position because he's been getting away with it against lesser talent, but they just can't pull it off at the next level.
Remember Armein getting away with play PG at times for his HS team and thinking he'd be able to play PG in college and how fantastic that worked out? Similar idea here.
Mobley has the skills to be a good 4, he'd just have to accept the fact that he's a 4 and work on refining his game as a 4. I don't understand why so many kids feel they need to shoot 3's all day instead of working on the more physical aspects of playing at the next level. It's like it's a bad thing to be a face-up 4 with a good mid-range game and shot blocking abilities.

I think the reason big kids are favoring this style of play boils down to Kevin Garnett.
I saw Mobley have a couple nice blocks. He didn't foul but he also didn't avoid contact and had the look of a guy who has shot blocker skills and a shot blocker mentality (I don't know how else to say that).
Sounds from your description (and from what I saw) like he has a 4 mentality on defense and a 3 mentality on offense.

Kirkland still thinks he can play the point. It is really frustrating to watch at DSL since he is on Cashmere's team. You can tell Cash is frustrated by it too.

Quote:Evaluation
July, 2009: Upside is the word that repeatedly comes to mind when watching Nyarsuk compete. He is weak and needs to add strength but this athletic center runs the floor effortlessly and takes drop off passes created by guard penetration and finishes above the rim with quickness and power. Nyarsuk plays with great urgency on both ends of the floor. In transition he attempts to seal his defender in the lane for a quick catch and finish at the rim. In the low post he has good not great hands and at times has difficulty holding his position but when he catches the ball he attacks with quick moves and simply elevates over opponents with his tremendous length although his back to the basket moves needs to be more fluid and smooth. He is an excellent area rebounder and can rebound over weak box outs with again his unmatched length. He is an excellent weak side shot blocker and great at contesting shots in and out of his area but must learn to use his quickness when defending in the lane because he is not strong enough to mix it up although he is more than willing. Nyarsuk is a very intriguing prospect with his best playing days ahead but his size and energy make him a factor the entire time he is on the floor.

Georgetown is among those that he continues to say he has around 30 offers from, but word is they are one of the finalists and one of the few seriously considered, along with Cincinnati.
