Quote:This biggest tip today, $30, came from this Mexican guy. Honestly, I didn't think I'd get much of a tip from him.
Quote:Two black parents and their children came in, and their check was roughly $57. They left a flat $65 in cash, so that's a $8 tip on a $60 check. That is VERY rare for black adults to do, though it is relatively common among black teenagers...they ALMOST ALWAYS tip better than adults.
Those are straight from Sax's website. He makes comments like those and yet he calls other people insensitive and racist.

You are an idiot. You have taken those comments way out of context.
It is a widely known fact among all servers that Hispanics and blacks, in general, don't tip well.
Don't be an a$$hole.
Who is it widely known by? Is there factual data out there from scientific studies done by unbiased parties?
STLouis Blazer Wrote:Who is it widely known by? Is there factual data out there from scientific studies done by unbiased parties?
Studies aren't needed. Just ask any server.
So you were stereotyping members of another race, particularly minorities.
How insensitive of you.
I am going to forward this post to the Omega president at UAB..............
STLouis Blazer Wrote:So you were stereotyping members of another race, particularly minorities.
Yep, that is quite true.
Except in this case, it is true most of the time.
Are you going to walk around Mexico stereotyping everyone?
STLouis Blazer Wrote:Are you going to walk around Mexico stereotyping everyone?
Of course.
I wouldn't put it past you since you like to stereotype people of a different race than you.
STLouis Blazer Wrote:I wouldn't put it past you since you like to stereotype people of a different race than you.
White people aren't any better.
NASCAR-loving, beer-drinking, trailer-park living, low-class trashy white people!
Have you ever thought that the reason they don't tip well is because their server sucks?
STLouis Blazer Wrote:Have you ever thought that the reason they don't tip well is because their server sucks?
Perhaps, but then I remember that I get very good tips from other people and receive excellent comments about my service.
From the post you quoted from my site:
Quote:This biggest tip today, $30, came from this Mexican guy. Honestly, I didn't think I'd get much of a tip from him. But, he was there with his family (4 other people), and they ended up ordering like $110 in food and drinks, and I talked in Spanish with them, which the guy liked.
When he paid, he left $140 in the payment book and left.
I followed him outside, and said, "Señor, ¿necisita cambio?" (Sir, do you need change?)
He replied (in English), "No way! Thanks man. You are awesome."
Later on in the evening, I got $25 on a $90 check from a party of 5 people, and one of the women at the table said, "I love you, Aaron! Next time we come in, I want you to be our server."
:own3d:
You didn't own me but you can think what you want.
If someone gives you a bad tip then most of the time it's because you suck.
STLouis Blazer Wrote:If someone gives you a bad tip then most of the time it's because you suck.
Very true.
I give the same level of service to everyone in hopes that I will get the best tip I've ever seen.
Actually, the third-best tip I ever got was from a black guy.
A VERY well-dressed black couple came in (a Versace suit!) to eat when I was still at Wings. They were really cool, and very easy to serve.
Their check was $30, and the guy left $20 and wrote "Good job" on the back of the receipt.
:D
Why do you have to label them as "black", "mexican", etc?
STLouis Blazer Wrote:Why do you have to label them as "black", "mexican", etc?
What would you prefer that I call them?
Why are "white people" called "white?"
Seems as if BlazerTool really takes to this waiter thing, since his grades are so pathetic maybe he should quit school and try it full time........
You never label white people as "white people" but when it comes to someone of a different race you always label them. Why is that?
STLouis Blazer Wrote:You never label white people as "white people" but when it comes to someone of a different race you always label them. Why is that?
A white person is white.
A black person is black.
A "tanned" person is...tan?
I called him a Mexican because he said he was from Mexico.
zlcuab Wrote:Seems as if BlazerTool really takes to this waiter thing, since his grades are so pathetic maybe he should quit school and try it full time........
Waiting tables gets you a lot of money, but it's a very tiring and low-end job. I'd kill myself before working in a job like this for the rest of my life.
Not to jump on the trash BlazerSax theme, but why do you put NASCAR and beer drinking together with white trash? Are all beer drinkers white trash and the same for NASCAR fans?
It appears from my outside perspective that you are just as quilty of stereotyping as you accused Memphis. Why is it ok to say that blacks and mexicans on average don't tip well, but to say that your car is more likely to get broken into in a poor neighbor is wrong? Seems like they are both stereotypes to me....
BlazerCPA Wrote:Not to jump on the trash BlazerSax theme, but why do you put NASCAR and beer drinking together with white trash? Are all beer drinkers white trash and the same for NASCAR fans?
That's a VERY good question, and goes right to the root of what STL is saying!
The sad thing is that I went to visit my best friend who teaches at Oak Mountain High School last week and all of her kids were exactly like Sax. They think of minorities as different because in their world, they are. The entire time I was in her school I only saw one black person and two Asians. Those kids have no idea that there are other cultures outside of theirs and they judge every other race based on what they see on tv.
What Memphis said is true. There have been multiple reported break-ins in the area that he suggested people stay away from.
What Sax said is his own opinion.
Sax, you gave me an example of a lady that said she loves you and wants you as her server when she comes back but you didn't label her as white, black, asian, hispanic, etc.

Oh my god...this is getting ridiculous.
If anyone knows about minorities...more specificaly...HISPANICS...it is me.
I've been to Mexico twice before today for extended periods of time working in the poorest areas of the country, and I've seen these people suffer in poverty with my own eyes.
I also work with Mexicans every day who have sweat, bled, and cried their way to a decent living in the United States.
Don't even talk to me about not understanding minorities (well, maybe not blacks, but Hispanics, to be sure)
STLouis Blazer Wrote:Sax, you gave me an example of a lady that said she loves you and wants you as her server when she comes back but you didn't label her as white, black, asian, hispanic, etc.
Her race is unimportant.
Sarah, get on AIM, please. We need to have a pow-wow, if you don't mind.
Her race is unimportant but the race of the Hispanic person and the "black" couple is?
STLouis Blazer Wrote:Her race is unimportant but the race of the Hispanic person and the "black" couple is?
Don't make an issue out of a non-issue, you baiting tool.
BlazerSax Wrote:Sarah, get on AIM, please. We need to have a pow-wow, if you don't mind.
Okay, I'm on.
Again, Sax is backing down.
I bet you'd be the best soldier the French military ever had if you would go over there and join. You back down from challenges with the best of them.
Sarahbelle18 Wrote:BlazerSax Wrote:Sarah, get on AIM, please. We need to have a pow-wow, if you don't mind.

IM me, I don't see you on my buddy list. Are you using a different SN?

STL??? You said it! I was asking what you meant!
"NASCAR-loving, beer-drinking, trailer-park living, low-class trashy white people!"

Once again you are proving that you are too stupid to know when to shut up when you are behind.
How much for them to take you back and keep you. You are personally making Jessica Simpson look like Marilyn Vos Savant.
Where did you find this boy??? (blazersux)
As someone who has been to NASCAR races, drank beer, and lived in a trailer. I can now say with certainty that blazersux IS a bumbass, and a closet racist.
Come on out of that closet boy, put on your sheet.
BTW, what choke & croak do you work at?
I'm not trying to defend Sax here but I honestly don't think he is trying to be racist. He may not have shall we say tact, but that's completely different.
I'm not sure how many of you have taken social psychology classes but for those of you who have you will recall that if you define using stereotypes as being a racist, then everybody is one. Stereotypes are a function of the human mind, and, as such, cannot be helped. They are a shortcut for people to draw information from what they know without waiting long periods to gather observational data.
So stereotypes are not bad. They are not good. They just are. If you are in California and see a blond haired man in swimming shorts, the first image that may come to mind is a surfer. That is a stereotype. You drew on images that you have seen before and used them to make inferences, and there is a good chance that you may be correct in your assumption. It isn't racist or bad because it hasn't been stigmatized that way.
That being said it is possible for them to get out of hand, but it only becomes "racist" if he treats people differently. From what I have seen of him he doesn't appear to be that way though he could choose his words a bit better (okay a lot). But he is drawing on his experience. Just like MB...only MB has better wording. I hope that now you can all see that he does the same thing yall do only he tells everyone he does it.

yeah, i had a passage on my last MCAT that had to do w/ the mind using stereotypes. it was actually a pretty interesting read.
i also dont think that sax is being racist. he just calls it like he sees it. he's been serving for like 2 years or something, so if he says a certain race doesnt tip particularly well, then it's probably true since he's probably served thousands of people. my brother waited tables at red lobster and made the same judgments, and my gf's old roommate was a hostess at the wings on lakeshore. she said that the servers, even the black ones, would beg her not to seat minorities in their sections because they knew that they would get screwed out of a tip.
I agree with both of you guys, I worked in the food industry and heard the same things, teenagers can be thrown into that group too. My question was that Sax had implied that Memphis was wrong in another thread for making a stereotype about low income neighborhoods, but then makes stereotypes about waiting tables. If one stereotype is wrong then so is another.
I agree that what's good for the goose is good for the gander. So if you say a person is wrong, you better not be doing the same thing. But when I read that post, I attributed it to:
A) Sarcasm (not sure but I give him the benefit of the doubt)
B) It's MB. You know Sax is going to go after him because they've had this little mini-war going on forever. :gun:
Can't argue with either of those.
I still want to know what is wrong with beer drinking?

Sax called me a racist even though I didn't mention race in my post. I simply suggested people not park in a certain neighborhood because of reported break-ins. Low income neighborhoods can be any race and I never suggested one way or the other.
When he made his accusation, I realized he was trying to start something and simply started another thread. When he tried to wreck that thread, I started another. I was providing helpful information to those coming to the tournament. He was playing games. I don't think he was serious until he and SLB heated up.
There is no "mini-war" going on between Sax and myself. He makes mistakes, I correct them, he gets upset. I rarely attack him personally other than to say some of his ideas or opinions are idiotic. I don't think I have ever called him a bad name. Yet, when he gets offended, I am usually the one he calls out as the instigator of it all. That is why I am so surprised I was not on his "enemies list" at the top of this thread.
Besides, you can't argue with Sax because he does not counter your arguments. He generally misunderstands your point and goes off on another tangent. Then you try to explain what your original point was, but he misconstrues that and it gets even more confused.
Anyway, when he comes back, I am sure the fun will start up again. I see only one of three ways for this to correct itself.
1. Ban Sax
2. Ban everyone else
3. Wait until he matures, if ever.
or better yet, someone find him a girlfriend that is so time consuming that he doesn't have time to post here. Then everyone would be happy, except maybe the girl.
As someone who used to wait tables and deliver pizzas for a living, I can generally say he's about right.
That being said, there's a way of saying things that won't offend most, if not all, people. He'll figure it out eventually...either that, or someone will kill him, God forbid.
Just...try to think before you speak Sax; you'll be liked a lot more.
Another option Memphis:
IGNORE button. If nobody reads or responds to his posts, then he will probably stop posting.
