right now at the convention. Doing a great job. He sort of mentioned Bartow Arena. He was talking about Obama speaking in Birmingham in January, although he referred to the Bart as a "cavernous auditorium"
But impressive speech.
I vote that instead of calling Bartow Arena "The Bart" we start referring to it as Cavernous Barlow Arena...
oh bugger. I meant to record it. Is this going to be on cspan.org or something?
I thought it was now called BARLOW Arena.
I wonder if he will be the first black governor for Ala.
I am just afraid we are a) too conservative and b) to be honest too redneck.
But regardless of your idology, very impressive - very smart young man.

No. The first black governor of Alabama will be Charles Barkley, if he ever actually runs like he claims he's going to.
I know this will get the thread moved to the Political Forum... but I would WAAAY rather have Charles Barkley as Governor than Artur Davis anyday.
The first black governor of Alabama probably hasn't been born yet.

Brawn over Brains
Langford is going to be the first black govenor, just as soon as he finishes up with the Olympics.
The first black governor of Alabama probably hasn't been born yet.
And that will remain the case for as long as Walmart carries houndstooth hats.
The first black governor of Alabama will be a republican, not a democrat.
Artur Davis is definitely testing the waters... I got a call for a phone survey asking my feelings towards the next state election; Artur's name was mentioned in at least half of the questions regarding the governor position.
If nothing else, Artur would definitely be the most educated governor Alabama ever had in office.
I would rather see him as a Senator.
I would rather see him as a Senator.
He would have to run against Shelby and that's a tall feat. Shelby's a high ranking Senator and he has a building(s) named after him on just about every college campus in the state. If you guys get a chance, go check AU's new Shelby BUILDINGS!!!

We have two senators, and I work across the street from a building named after Richard Shelby.
I saw a short clip of him on the tube this morning and was a bit disappointed in his oratorical skills.. I was expecting even more from him. Maybe the highlight I saw wasnt the best part of his short speech.

No, it was all pretty bad. I think it's good that he's getting some time in front of major crowds though, without having to be directly in the spotlight. When Obama was at Bartow, he did much better. He needs to vary his body language and hand movements, and drop the 'ladies and gentlemen' bit.
Davis and Barkley are BOTH from "IMPERIAL Jeffco". That means they have the same chance for election to a statewide office in Alabama as "Big Luthur" Strange and Drayton Nabors had in the last election--NONE!! Whether you speak of U.S. Senator or Governor, you can't get "there" from "here". The last Jeffco politician to win election to a statewide office (Public Service Commission) in Alabama was Eugene "BULL" Conner, and we all are aware of what he did to get his statewide "cred". We get reminded of it everytime his "dogs and firehose" drama is shown on TV.
In my opinion, Davis is not a good public speaker at all. With the success of obama, he is definitely wanting to be Governor. I think Ron Sparks and Jim Folsom will definitely have a say in the Democratic nomination and I believe both would make better Governors!!
I think you will see Jim Folsom run for gov. and Ron Sparks run for senate.
Sparks was going to run for Senate against Sessions this year... however, Vivian Figures had to come along. Ron thought that in order to win against Session, the Democrats didn't need a primary fight to use up campaign $$. So thanks to Vivian Figures and her dream that she had, Sparks isn't running for Senate. I'm looking at Folsom running for Gov. and Sparks at Lt. Gov. in 2012.
