Skip Holtz, ECU Head Coach

04-cheers02-13-banana04-cheers
that should set him up for a new deal elsewhere now.. he has a new deal to use in bargaining if Ecu does well this year.
Holland said last week on the radio Holtz would be in the top 30 of coaches pay this year & we are commited to keeping him at that level.
That and a big red balloon may keep him from leaving to a big6 school anytime he damn well pleases..

Who knows. It wouldn't shock me if he stayed a few more years, & wasn't as quick to move his kids again remembering his childhood. He already had his taste of 85k seat SEC level football at SC & the pressures with it, where he was promised the head job & how that turned out negativity & almost cost him his HC career.

He has us rolling & outside the elites many mid level BCS job he would be offered would probably be for similar money & would likely be taking over a rebuilding job that might not be worth it at this point.People always said the same about Logan when he was a hot name & he was here over a decade, even when he had opportunities.

Still wouldn't trade for a 60+ guy that told ESPN he only wanted to coach a couple more years. You got your own issues to worry about & him slowing down & putting a foot in the RV even if he does stay on.

If that buyout is not HUGE, we might get your coach when over 60 one retires. 04-cheers

03-yawn Nahh, you'll probably take another coach that's toxic to every other school, & that needs to rehab his career before he loads up the RV. For our Marshall friend, Pruett's back in coaching & available. You should look him up. BTW, last I checked you were the one losing some of the BIGGEST pieces to the puzzle to other conference mates like SMU, not us....
Holtz has already turned down the Cincy job. It will take a elite job for him to go.

You would be lucky to have him....I think Holtz is a great coach and has done wonders with our program over that last 4 years. Sometimes I think people forget how far our program had fallen prior to Holtz taking over.

I am not naive enough to think Holtz will be here long term if he has great success but I also think some people do not understand his dedication to and love of Greenville and ECU.

It would have to be the right job for him to leave, It would have to be a program that he would have a realistic shot to win a BCS championship.

He has already had some interest shown by some upper level BCS schools and has not moved on....Now who knows if this was his decision or not but it is my understanding that he has declined interview opportunities with several BCS schools.

How did Skip's contract extension become a ECU vs UCF pissing match? Good job by ECU in retaining your coach. I don't get the feeling he is in a big rush to leave ECU. Neither is Coach O'Leary. O'Leary is a hell of a football coach and he graduates his players... I don't think most people loathe him. I will say this; those that dislike O'leary really really dislike him. Good luck to ECU

Good for ECU. Congrats.
goodknightfl, I certainly don't understand your logic on this one. A new contract will likely make the buyout larger, which will prevent only but the elite programs from being able to hire Coach Holtz. In order for a truly elite program to be interested in hiring Coach Holtz, he would almost have to have ECU play in a BCS bowl game. If that were to occur, ECU would get a nice buyout from the elite program and would certainly be able to hire a great replacement.

Oh no...He might want to retire at some point.

You obviously don't know O'Leary if you think he is slowing down. The guy just won the C-USA last year and he is recruiting like crazy. He is a machine. When he does decide to retire we will have over $1 million to pay a new coach. I'm sure he wants to get UCF into the top 25 and more before he leaves.

Skip Holtz is a damn good coach, I hope you guys keep him for a long time. He's very underrated but, obviously, not undervalued..

& the year before he had a 4-8 disaster & that "one foot in the RV" was a direct quote I took from several of your fans who thought that about him & who wanted to fire him, that you made a mistake giving him what you did, & you may still have have. The only thing consistant with him at UCF is that he is consistently inconsistent. He is still well under .500 at UCF & I expect he will have some boo birds back out this year.

Just going by what the reporter said O'Leary told her of which she repeated on the air.

From what I've seen posted on several boards, O'Leary is doing a great job recruiting this year. I do expect UCF to lose a few this year since the team was so dependent on Smith last year and they will start a green QB. UCF also has several new O-Linemen this year. UCF's defense will improve, but I think it will get wore down, since UCF's offense will likely have a lot of 3 and outs plus turnovers this season.

You are forgetting another conference mate (Houston) stole their Defensive Coordinator in the off season, who had come in for one year & was responsible for the big turnaround on Defense. He is also gone now to another CUSA school like their AD who was responsible for all the building of things they didn't have.

Rob, maybe you should worry about not being a farm system for CUSA West before you think you will take our coach?

Anyway they now have Davey Huxtable calling the DC shots, who was at ECU several times in the 90's but we never trusted enough to be DC here even when we had the job opened both times he was here we hired outside, & who was on staff at UCF the last few years & was passed over previously when the job opened there as well & I guess now gets it by default even though he didn't have the answers 2 years ago apparently.
