I know, I know, this is nothing new, but it is still annoying. I was watching SC and they started to mention the beginning of the college football season. They mentioned the Thurs. night game. They mentioned just about every over football game televised on Sat., but no mention of Rice vs. SMU which is televised on their own network. The closest thing we got to a mention was when they were talking about Hawaii playing against Florida but without June Jones.
Be prepared for Friday's game telecast to be a June Jones lovefest ... I'm hoping that they might at some point dare to mention which team he is dazzling with his coaching genius.

It's not just the SportsCenter. Their full page ads in sports magazines for the weekend slate of games on ESPN/ABC cover Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. But they skip the Friday game of SMU/Rice.

Thankfully, I'll be at the game and not subjected to ESPN's subjective reporting.

I remember that the 1994 game on ESPN between Rice and Texas was completely a UT game as far as ESPN was concerned. I think they signed off the broadcast with "And so Texas came up short, 19-17, now to SportsCenter".
I also remember that last year's MLS Cup final between New England and Houston was completely a New England game for ESPN -- which was especially galling because Houston was the defending champion.
And of course there is the College World Series coverage which we all respect so highly...
I suppose we should feel sorry for ESPN, though. It is tough trying to cram the square peg of athletic reality into the round hole of pre-scripted sports "journalism", so perhaps we should admire ESPN's tenacity in hammering away.
And those tables were turned on UT a couple years ago when they played in the Rose Bowl against the greatest team in college football history.
I am not under the illusion that Rice-SMU is going to get huge ratings, but they really should at least mention it. Clement/Dillard on one side and June Jones on the other are such easy story lines.
But if they advertise the game it might get respectable ratings for a Friday game and then where would they be? God forbid they should be forced to take a non-BCS game except when all the BCS schools tell them to stick it.

Yeah, I find the constant lack of mentioning odd. Wouldn't they, like, want people to watch and stuff?
