Agreed. It's difficult to carry a guy strictly as a pinch runner (though the Oakland A's of the early-to-mid 1970s did it with Joe Washington). With Rathjen, Sulzbaugh and Fuda all coming in, there was no way Paylor was going to break into the OF mix.
BTW, didn't realize Jared Rogers was such a big guy (6'6").

It was Herb Washington.
Right, but he really hit the ball during the spring practices. The guy can fly. I would have to think that he's a prime candidate for PT
Only 2 SRs on the team this year, Buenger and Jordan Rogers. A bit unusual for a WG team.
A lot of RSs (9 total, some RS from '07, some from '08). Speaks to the tough go FR and SO have breaking into the regular lineup or getting significant PT. DEPTH RULES!
NEW NAME SPOTTED: Ryan Lewis, OF, Baton Rouge, LA. Possibly a walk on?
5 catchers listed, including DiBiasse
They're already listing Luke Wilson, the FB TE from Canada who's indicated he wants to play baseball too. Doubt that we'll see him in Fall Ball though. He's HUGE (6'5", 240#)
Overall, we've got a larger-sized lineup than I recall Rice having in the past. Only 8 of the 35 are less than 6' with Hamilton at 6'8", a couple at 6'6", two more at 6'5" and 6 more in the 6'3-4' range.
5 southpaws in the bullpen, including Simmons, who I don't recall having been listed as a P before, just 1B/OF.
Craig Manuel, the late signee from FL, is a R-handed C who hits from the L, but not a switch hitter.
As expected, still Houston-area dominated, but 2 from FL, 2 LA, 1 KS, 1 CA, 1 NJ and 1 CAN.
Looks like a great roster for finding a team that can take it to Omaha once again.

Ryan Lewis is the big QB football recruit. He was also all state baseball in Louisiana for Catholic HS (baseball powerhouse) in Baton Rouge. He could have a big impact on the football AND baseball teams
As for one of the comments re. Michael Fuda above-- yes, he struggled last season, but much of that was due to his missing the critical (for Freshmen) Fall Practice season (both due to his football commitments and his injury). The kid was an elite high school baseball player, and there is no reason to think that given his new commitment and singular focus on baseball (along with academics, of course), coupled with the teaching and player development from WG and the rest of the coaching staff, that Michael cannot be a contributor to the baseball program this year and beyond. He certainly adds depth, which we now have in spades both in the infield and outfield (and pitching staff).
If not, you have to remember who is paying his scholarship. Why would our FB coach let a guy spend half his time playing baseball and not get the reps he needs to be an eventual starter on the football team? That being said, if he is practicing football, he will once again miss the bulk of Fall Ball and will continue to be way behind. If he was a pitcher only and a QB I would think he would have a chance. Being a field player requires him to hit. Which requires you to see live pitching on a regualar basis to be any good at all. If you don't hit for the Owls, you don't play. So he is going to spend his time at FB practice learning to cover and delivering hits. Unless you've played football, whether you give a hit or get hit still means you were in a collision. Those will takes it's toll. In HS you can get away with it. In college, it's a different animal.
My thought is that most of the guys who try it end up being average at both. It might be ok for our football team for NOW but, it will never fly for our baseball team.
Now I recall him being discussed on this board over the past few months. Thanks for refreshing my memory.
