Not many. I think the guess on the rivals board was in the hundreds. I'm sure UAB will play well, but perception here is that it won't be a particularly good game and not worth the long trip (gas etc). TU travels well if the games are perceived good and within a tank of gas or so, but anything longer cuts us down quite a bit. During our Elite 8 bb run a few years back, a few thousand fans went to Dallas and we actually had many more fans there than the Mustangs at Moody. Later when that game was played (4-5 years ago), we might not have had 3 dozen fans.

Yea, it sucks to drive that far and get beat by a team that won two games last year.

Maybe TU can keep it close and it will be a good game.

Im bringing 2. Flying in wednesday.
I was thinking about it but the airfare to get into and out of Birmingham was surprisingly high and so I decided not to go.
Will this game be broadcast on All-Access?
Come by the Blazertalk tailgate and wish Little Smaug happy birthday.

What's with the hate?

Eh, I think he's just giddy with that most beautiful of things, preseason optimism.

Remember, we're all undefeated right now.
ok, I'll cut him some slack then.
Atalla was heavily involved in that fiasco on the Rice board. Since then, he hasn't passed on an opportunity to bash Tulsa.
He actually have us a lot of respect in basketball, saying we should be the #2 team in the league ahead of UAB. I'm not sure I totally buy that preseason hype for basketball. What's funny is I buy a lot of TU preseason hype in football. Guess Attalla does not. That's OK. It wouldn't be very interesting if we all agreed all the time. We'll find out Saturday and I'm sure we'll hear a full retraction if he's wrong. 03-wink

Time to get over the Rice board thing.

Just curious. How well does Tulsa travel for road C-USA games? I imagine ( without looking at a map) that there are only a couple of teams that are within a tank of gas ride for away games so travel is no doubt an issue when deciding which games to go to. You guys have a great team now so you're probably developing a stronger fan base, one that is more likely to travel to away games.

Lay off Attallablaze.

Sometimes you have to take the interwebs with a grain of salt:

I think we pick and choose a lot. Since we don't have a huge alum base, most fans are prone to going out of town IF their schedule permits it rather than making their calendar fit into the TU fb/bb gamedays. If the game is perceived big, we'll show, but as always, there are financial and time allotment considerations.

Traditionally, we have a lot of bandwagon fans. When we went to the Liberty Bowl, I think we took nearly 15,000 (looked like more). When the basketball team was so good, we once packed the upper level at SMU.

The problem with C-USA is that there some tough road trips; not as bad as the WAC with Hawaii, but it's tough to make it to West Virginia in November for a lot of the fans in Tulsa.

This year with the games in decent driving distance, TU is putting together alumni tents and other events at SMU, UNT, and Arkansas.

We also usually have a decent showing of fans at the Texas games because so many players are from there and we have a lot of alumni in both Dallas and Houston.

One potential problem this year is that someone managed to schedule the basketball game with Oral Roberts right after the Houston game (which could end up being a really big football game). It could hurt the chances of the few fans in Tulsa who might fly to Houston doing so.

Congrats to Tulsa. UAB had to play an error free game to win. Three turnovers, missed tackles and a TD called back that was really a TD did not help the situation. The Blazers are still a year away from contending. I still say we will ruin someone's season. I hope Tulsa wins out and goes to the Orange Bowl.

Yes, I picked Tulsa over UAB in basketball and stand by that. UAB has to go to Tulsa and the Blazers have to show me they can beat them on the road before I will pick them over the Hurricane.

As far as the Rice board goes, it's their board. Respect that and everything will be fine. Same goes for everyone else's board. If fans were doing the same thing to the Tulsa board and it was here I would do the same for them. Just let it go.............
You hope the "idiots" from "ASLUT" win out? 03-wink

You say you didn't see the TD that was called back. It was reviewed. I don't understand your complaint.

You guys killed TU hoops on the road a couple of years back. You still have Vaden and we have no shooters.

I think the point with the Rice board is that some Rice fans refuse to interact with TU fans, but Rice fans are willing to call TU fans all sorts of names and the like. If that's what they gonna do, that's fine. Just don't ask us to "respect" certain fans. They aren't all bad, but some of us shouldn't have been treated the way we were, either. I can tell you that no Rice fan has ever been banned from our board.

1. It's called a joke. I read many more slams against me personally and against UAB on the Tulsa board than the one joke that everybody uses against you. (ASLUT) that I used in fun.

2. The crappy camera did not have a good angle. The people I talked to in the endzone confirmed it was a blown call. The camera angle was not conclusive so they did not overturn it. Had it been called a TD is would not have been overturned either due to the angle. Remember the game was not on TV so it was a camcorder that had the shot. The beat writer confirmed it was a TD in the Birmingham news and the call was blown. It was a HUGE call in a tight game at that point.

3. UAB lost to Tulsa with Vaden. UAB needs to prove it can handle Jordan and have other players step up besides vaden against Tulsa but until then I will pick 1. Memphis 2. Tulsa 3. UAB.

4. It's their board, not yours. Bottom line. If TU fans did it to us I would ban them. If TU had and active board here and Rice fans did the same thing to TU fans I would ban them as well. The actions of SOME of the Tulsa fans were inexcusable. GET OVER IT TULSA FANS. I will not continue to rehash or discuss this. Follow their AUP or stay off their board. Same goes for any fan base visiting any one else's board.

That is true, and I apologize for my role in that. There were some trolls, and I stand by our (mods') actions towards them -- but some other people got unfairly lumped in with that bunch, and I'm sorry.

everyone just needs to get over it and enjoy this season. Go CUSA.

Thank you.

Pillow fights between those western small privates are so cute.
Isn't TU 2-0 against ECU since joining C-USA? 03-wink

Cute indeed.
