Does anyone know if there will be radio broadcasts of the Canada tournament?
There will be no radio coverage from ETSU.

Crap. Do you know if the host University will cover the tourney? Thanks!

Here are some sites that made some mention of ETSU. How much coverage we will have to see...

Every sports outlet is committed to football. There isn't any reason to be covering basketball at this time of the year. Its football time, not basketball time. Oh, sorry, I forgot, ETSU is the only university that nows how to "do it the right way".
Mullins can start the basketball season July 4th if he wants but will still not cover up the fact that ETSU is the only school in Tennessee without football.
Milligan doesn't either....so...we're in good company. There's always a spot for us in the AAC.
I think that is Mullin's dream plan for ETSU, Rockstar.
I'm really excited to see the newcomers play. We should get a sneak peak this weekend.

Buccaneers preparing for visit to Canada

The East Tennessee State basketball team is complete this week, practicing and looking forward to playing a few games in Canada over the Labor Day holiday.
The Bucs’ five newcomers were able to begin practice on Monday. The team will fly to Toronto on Friday and play four exhibition games against Canadian teams over the long weekend.

“Overall it’s too early to tell much,” coach Murry Bartow said Tuesday before a workout in a very busy Memorial Center, “but we feel strongly that we have some young guys who will make an impact this year. I know they’re hungry to step out on the court and start showing what they can do.”

The new group includes four freshmen – guards Adam Sollazzo and Jarvis Jones, forward J.C. Ward and post Seth Coy – and Alabama transfer Justin Tubbs, a junior who will have to sit out this season. They were able to watch practice last week but weren’t allowed to participate until classes began on Monday.

The Bucs have been afforded 10 extra days of practice to get ready for the Canada trip.

For Sollazzo, a 6-5 point guard from Tampa, Fla., the change of scenery isn’t a bad thing. With a tropical storm bouncing around his home state last week, and a hurricane bearing down on the Gulf Coast this week, he’s happy to be in the mountains of East Tennessee.

“My parents drove home during the last storm, so I was very glad to be here,” said Sollazzo. “It’s raining here today, but it’s nothing compared to Florida rain during hurricane season.”

Sollazzo may find himself in the basketball mix at ETSU faster than some others. He’ll battle for playing time with senior Jocolby Davis, and his height will give the Bucs a decidedly different look at the point.

“My freshman year in high school I was 5-9, so point guard was my born position,” he said. “Then I started shooting up two or three inches each year, but I was still a point guard. That’s just the way it stayed.”

The Bucs won’t get deep into preparations for the upcoming season until mid-October. Having a few practices and games to size things up in August is simply a bonus for a team coming off a 19-13 season.

“The more we play together and feel each other out, the better I get to know what these guys are going to do,” said Sollazzo. “I’ll know what they like to do and try to get them the ball in the best situations. Having this time to practice is good for the team, especially the freshmen. I look forward to playing in Canada, and I hope I can do a good job for the coaches up there.”

The Bucs have also added more backcourt help in Jones, a 6-2 shooting guard from Memphis.

The former Mitchell High School star injured his left knee during a game on Valentines Day and had to watch as his team advanced to the state tournament. He’s still trying to get back up to speed.

“I sat out for three months and they put it in a brace. I started playing again this summer,” he said. “I’m probably about 80 percent right now. I’m doing rehab to get the knee back to full strength, and I think I’m going to fit in well here.”

Jones is the fourth recruit from the Memphis area to come to ETSU in recent years, joining the likes of Courtney Pigram, Travis Strong and Tayloe Taylor, who has since transferred.

Bartow says all the freshmen will have to adjust quickly to the demands of college basketball.

“The speed of the college game, the intensity of practice ... there’s a lot of adjustments to make,” he said. “Fortunately we’re able to get a little head start on things.”

I think Sollazzo has a really good chance of being our PG. The injury that Jones had seems to be a little more serious our at least more recovery time than was expected.

I was worried that Jones wouldn't be full strength--strange that he played summer ball? I hear he is a ridiculous shooter.
