Weird!
Because Old Myth sucks and isn't a big TV draw
The UL-Monroe/Auburn game is going to be off the hook!...

Congrats on App St. making it to ESPN. LSU won't be surprised. LSU will beat them by at least 40.

I can't think of a good reason why the Memphis/Misiisssiissisisppi game isn't on TV...
some sec arcanum. who cares. go to the game or wait and see the dumbed down 2 hour version CSS is going to show on sunday i hear
I like it not being on TV! Go down to Oxford and support the TIGERS!
Mississippi may see that the only way to get this thing close to a sell-out or make substantial money is to keep it off TV and rely on ticket sales. PPV games are a good supplemental revenue stream, but it's only worth-while if you're going to sell-out your game...don't give the masses a reason to stay home, avoid unbearable temperatures & save money on gas!
I will be listening to Wolo.
My last trip down there was my last trip down there! lol
If I remember correctly, lots of folks felt that way after the last game in webel world.
Too bad it will not be on tv but if Wolo gets too lost, I guess I could always go over to the webels broadcast and between the two, have a least some idea of whats going on! lol
Go Tigers!
I think I'm gonna go play golf and check the ticker between shots. I just can't listen to either Wolo or Kellum

i agree, loyal! we're having our own tiger tailgate party in memphis that day, and will just have to deal with wolo...
04-cheers

I swore the awful heat wave game when we got trounced was my last one but I made it back to see us win in 04. Tough to listen to wolo but that is what I'll be doing Saturday.

Oxford never has been a real U10 kid friendly type of place !!! And I can't go to a Tiger game without my kids...They love the Tigers more than I do...

Wow...our fans will travel across the country to see our team play. And the majority of Tiger fans in this thread won't travel just 70 miles.

(Now come the insults, flame throwers, play on nicknames, comments about mascots, whatever...)

Facts hurt, and it's sad you won't go support your team when they're playing less than 2 hours away.
You realize that it's maybe 4 or 5 posts, right?

as said before, most, if not all, of us have done it in previous years. personally, it makes me happy to not give your school my $100. i can save that to support my team in other ways (current pledge programs that are going on right now.)

$100 given directly to The U of M beats out $100 given to mississippi anyday.

there will be a very good representation of tiger fans there...i seem to remember last year a lot of your fans coming on here saying they weren't going to make the trip to memphis, either.

You know...I really couldn't care less if you like my school. That's fine.

But last I remember, a fan goes to a game to cheer for his or her team. I despise LSU and Miss. State, but I still go to those games when they're away because I'm pulling for my team. I'm not worried about whether that school we're playing benefits from it.

And don't get started on ticket prices. You can go to any Memphis game for $15 for really good seats, but when a SEC team comes to town the price goes up to $50. And we have benefitted your school greatly by traveling to Memphis.

To answer the question -- all the network slots were taken and Ole Miss has one piss-poor PPV outlet.

Our fans travel very well so ease up cowboy. Most just don't want to deal with your fans. I will be down there happy to deal with em. I don't understand why people don't just go and roll in big groups? If they toss a bottle at your head...jump them. Ole Miss fans are just annoying not usually that dangerous, maybe one or two jack handles thrown at your head.

Facts, there will be 4-5,000 Tiger fans in Oxford, and none of them live in oxford. For the last 4 or 5 times you have played in Memphis, you have brought about the same amount, and most of them live in Memphis. Get off your high horse, noone believes your bs about your fans following them across the country to play. You don't even fill up "the vaught"

Exactly.

Memphis fans will travel in very good numbers to Marshall and SMU this season. We usually take a huge number to UAB, but it's on a Thursday night this year, so our usual number will probably be down for that trip.

The trip to Oxford has become a chore, mainly because we know what we have to put up with every single time we go down there.

App St. will keep the game close. They played LSU a few years ago in Baton Rouge at night and gave LSU a run for their money.

I find it hard to believe that when the game is played at Memphis it is on tv, yet when it is played in Oxford, it is not. (that fact is not based on networks, it is based on the hosting university electing sell the tv rights)

I do not think the current staff at Miss is to blame. It may have alot to do with attempting to increase attendance.

Ole Miss couldn't sell its media rights if it wanted to, as we don't own them to begin with. We are bound by the SEC media rights. We could put it on PPV, but as previously stated, we are joined at the hip with a piss-poor provider (Telesouth Communciations).

True that! New coach, your 2nd biggest rival and you can't sellout the place, pathetic. Sorry Mississippi fans it's true MSU is your biggest rival, Memphis is 2nd. Because nobody else in the SEC gives a crap about you, think Vanderbilt of the west.

Good Point Draelius
App State will play LSU tough. They have a lot of pride, and are not going to back down. It will stay tough for at least a half. They are good!

"App St. will keep the game close. They played LSU a few years ago in Baton Rouge at night and gave LSU a run for their money."

Actually, App. State won the 1-AA title in 2005 and still got beat down by LSU 24-0. Not really that close.
The subset of posters to any particular topic isn't necessarily representative of the posters on a particlar forum, which in turn aren't necessarily representative of all the people who read a forum, who in turn aren't necessarily representive of the particular demographic (e.g. Tiger Fans) that forum serves.

This is like a basic law of the internets.

It should be of no surprise that a thread that starts out noting that the Memphis. v UMiss game isn't on TV would then be followed by people describing what they are doing since they can't watch it on TV.

Those people in turn are less likely to be posting in the threads about scalpers in Oxford and the best places to get soemthing to eat before the game.
Don't worry, there will be plenty of Tiger fans down there. Just make sure you have enough water for them.
I traveled to the games in Oxford for more than 30 years, but the most unpleasant, threatening encounter I had with a small group of your fans last year in Memphis has made me vow to never step foot in Oxford on a game day again. Your fans baited us verbally and then shoved and harrassed us. They were without a doubt the most arrogant, obnoxious fans we saw all year. It was a doctor and his wife and foul-mouthed daughter. I wish we would drop the series with you all. It is no longer fun and we don't need you for anything.
That being said, I have already sent my game money to build our new weight room. And I will be following the game on the radio (like the good ole days when my children were too little to travel), and I hope we beat the socks off you guys and your new coach. GO TIGERS GO!
I've got 4 tickets and plan on being there...I love my Tigers and I'm ready for some FOOTBALL!

Yea, because it isn't like App. State is even in Louisiana Monroe's class, sorry the almighty SEC has it down days, ask Alabama. And don't forget how close the Rebs were to losing to Northwestern State (La.) last year. Or the mighty Mississippi Bulldogs a couple of years ago taking on Maine. I think LSU beats the crap out of them, but don't use the high and mighty SEC's **** don't stink attitude. As proven above, even the mighty SEC teams have bad days.

Wonder if they will turn on the water fountains this year or keep them off as usual so they can sell small cups of ice water at $2 a pop as in the past. That has to be a human-rights violation.

Well, the SEC ain't the Big 10, which is what I said. Its much, much better. And LSU is one of the better teams in the SEC. Hating the SEC doesn't change the fact that its the best conference in the nation.

Oh, and I forgot, please don't ever mention Vanderbilt in the same breath as Ole Miss.
Don't worry Tiger fans. Wolo has spent the last 3 weeks listening to Bob Costas. We have a whole new style of Wolo on tap for this season.

I was with the band the last time we played there and after the game as we marched back to our busses, we were assaulted by scores of shaggy haired, pink striped pants wearing d-bags as they all found it necessary to put up their middle finger and throw cups at us. But these sort of things are expected from the animal students at UMiss.

Anyways, I have purchased 8 tickets and I am looking forward to a day of making fun of how every single student looks exactly the same and how their actions are too predictable. Then after that, I will enjoy a nice football game in which only about 55,000 people on the planet will be watching at that time.

GO TIGERS!

You don't need to lecture us on team support. Go away Richard.

No, it says a lot about ole miss. The fact that they didn't want to play on Sunday last years so it could be on tv, said a lot about ole miss. The fact that they have a crappy facility that has bad broadcast abilities so that it is not on PPV says a lot about ole miss. And the fact that nobody else picked up Florida vs Hawaii IS why the game isn't be shown on television. That is the real reason, because up until that game fell into their laps, they were planning on showing our game.
The fact that we are on tv quite a few times this year says a lot about OUR program.

Our facility has nothing to do with whether or not the game will be broadcast. There have never been issues with that. The reason we won't have it on PPV is probably to ensure that we have a sell out. That's all there is to it, and honestly we typically don't put our own home games on PPV anyway. We've offered road games on PPV before, but there shouldn't be a reason for US to offer one of our own home games on PPV. Maybe I'm wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure we haven't offered PPV on a home game in a long time. I remember that last year's game at Auburn was on PPV. Our game at Vandy was on PPV, but I don't remember any of our home games being offered on PPV unless the opposing school was offering them.

Does anyone know about this??? Will the game be offered via the internet???

I find it funny that olemisscowboy is talking about how loyal and die-hard Mississippi's fans are. Let's take a look at the home attendance figures:

Missouri - 50897
Florida - 55032
La Tech - 45138
Alabama - 59791
Arkansas - 52671
Northwestern State - 23283
LSU - 61118

Source: olemisssports.com

That overwhelming fan support really showed during the Northwestern State game. While I hate to admit that the support for Memphis football is lackluster, I wouldn't call Mississippi's overwhelming.

So we average nearly 50,000 per game in the worst season we've had in 25 years, and you're saying we have lackluster fan support? The Northwestern State game, aside from being a D-1AA game came across more like a protest against our former coaching staff than anything else.

If we can average 50,000 in our worst year in 25 years, then we will definitely be able to average at least close to 60,000 in decent years, which is about as good as it's going to get.

Well when you consider that most of the SEC teams such as Arkansas, LSU, Alabama, and even Florida to a lesser extent bring close to 10,000 visitors to the land of cotton, it isn't like you are filling the place up. Those games are also when the socialites in Oxfart come out and occasionally wonder away from their cocktails at the Grove. The visitors are helping you big time with those crowds, not the other way around. The Northwestern State game and Louisiana Tech game reveals alot more than most Johnnies will ever admit to. There is a reason blockhead Trev Alberts referred to Ol' Piss as the RUNTS. In the grand scheme of college football, Ol' Piss is a blipp in the history books. 1963, it has been a long time since the Confederates won their conference or been considered relevant in the SEC race.

They actually were a missed field goal away from beating LSU and winning the West in 2003. Unfortunately for the Johnnies, the Tigers beat them with their best team ever 41-31.

No, if you ask a RUNT fan, they will tell you they shared the West that year. I find that to be weak as well. They have a banner claiming the 2003 West Division Champs, but lost head to head with LSU. Those Johnnies are some silly little school girls. The last time the Johnnies won the SEC outright was in 1963 and guess what, they couldn't beat the Tigers that year. We were there only blemish as they finished 9-0-1. The tie was with Memphis. 2003 was Ol' Piss' last great opportunity as they have no more Mannings waiting in the Wings. Maybe in 15-20 years, Eli will have a boy to send their way, lol. 03-lmfao

Ole Miss doesnt have the TV draw to offer pay-per-view, and wasn't willing to shift the game to another date to accomodate TV.

Ole Miss' die hard fan base if around 45k. Memphis' is around 30k. If we didn't play our games in a stadium that was far too big to create any semblence of ambiance, and didn't tailgate in a chain-link/ asphalt jungle, we would have a larger fanbase.
