I'm not a Lobos fan, but I read that this game will not be on TV. The networks of Mtn/Versus/CBS-C usually carry MWC home games. But CUSA not being able to put any sort of coverage on this game shows the state of the conference. Isn't it ironic that New Mexico's games against WAC and CUSA teams on the road are not on TV?
About 18 months after Big 12 signed its second tv contract, the PAC signed its contract which was more lucrative. The Big 12 was livid. Eventually, the Big 12 caught up with PAC. CUSA signed its contract for six years and did so during a stressful time when CUSA-12 was basically being rebuilt and was an unknown quantity. Whether one wants to flame or brag on CUSA, that will have to wait until CUSA completes is first contract and completes its negotiations for the second. FWIW, the majority of schools comprising the MWC have been playing in a conference format since 1960, a half century. FWIW, also, I don't believe MTN is carried on cable in Texas. The MTN is a superb network for MWC. Hopefully, CUSA will have a better tv situation with all the new technologies and broadcast outlets opening up.
FWIW, without a conference tv network like MTN, Tulsa was on tv seven times last season.
damn.... sucks that no one gets to see Tulsa destroy them
For What It's Worth, Tallgrass talks to much. The Lobos should be picking up their road games and doing their own broadcasts. Not every game is on national TV or even on the mountain goat network.
For What It's Worth, I would like to see a steel cage match between Tallgrass and Lobocrack before the actual game. Now that I would pay for.

Actually all it shows is that people in the South don't give a rat's left hind leg about games with mid-level western opponents, not named Boise State.

Would have been nice to watch Tulsa put up an @$$ whooping on the Lobos.

That would be awesome, especially if there was a way for both of them to be beaten to a bloody pulp!
While the OP is just trying to start a flame war, it does bring up a valid point. CBSCollege, Vs, the mtn, CUSA, and MWC all dropped the ball on the weekend of 9/20. There are 3 MWC vs. CUSA matchups that weekend. This will be the first time since the creation of CSTV that ANY CUSA/MWC tilt will not be on TV. CBSCollege chose to show only 2 games (Rutgers/Navy and TCU/SMU) that day. This left the UNM/Tulsa game and CSU/UH game out in the cold. In all fairness, CBS College offered both games the option of moving to Thurs night for TV. However, in both cases, the road team (UNM & UH) turned it down. But the bottom line is that between the 3 networks, they should have found a way to get these games on TV.
That would be awesome, especially if there was a way for both of them to be beaten to a bloody pulp!
No way man, I would take Tallgrass down to the grown, get in side control and grabbed his right arm for a kamura lock. Talgrass would have then cried like a girl until he fainted or if he's smart..would tapout.

Not sure what you mean about the MWC not doing there part. The MWC has a full slate of games that day on all 3 networks.
Wyoming @ BYU The Mtn.
Houston @ Colorado State no tv
Utah @ Air Force VERSUS
Iowa State @ UNLV The Mtn.
New Mexico @ Tulsa no tv
TCU @ SMU CBS C
If you look at the Mtn football schedule they will only televise triple headers once we're deep in conference play.

I guess that's what happens when you schedule WAC and CUSA teams....no TV!
The game will be on the internet via XXL CBS College Sports.

We all know the CUSA is dying that's why UTEP and Houston want to get into the MWC , and ECU and Memphis want to get into the Big East. You might get passed by the Sun Belt this year in quality of conference, now that would be sad.

Watching Tulsa play a scrub team isn't deemed TV worthy.

TCU/SMU the only game on a legitimate network.

As it is no one outside the MWC teams will watch that Mountain Channel. Could it be they were worried that our Tulsa would embarrass those poor Lobos. Believe me, I have directv and dont care to know where that channel will be because I will not watch. There is far better matchups on ESPN, ESPN 2, FoxSports, and any other channel.
So the MWC was formed from teams that broke away from many of the CUSA programs. Now the MWC wants some of them back? To be honest, we've tried that before and basically it goes like this - you either freeze and starve in the mountains or you boil and dehydrate in the desert. No one knows who you are or cares. The mules and sleds are the main mode of transport during some of the year and the refs love to stick it to the easterners. I'd say thats about it. Oh, and some of them cheat a little too (see NM).
I love all the sports boards, this one most of all. Sometimes, I like to jump in there and make many posts on a topic in one thread. Sometimes, I like to jump in with perhaps only one observation. And, many times, I don't jump in at all...knowing this is not an issue of importance to me, or perhaps the point is vaild but nothing can be done right now, or others have already made good points which I certainly cannot add to. And, finally, there are threads like this one...which sort of like one opening a door to a cage, entering it, and locking the door. What's the point?
While I appreciate the support of CUSA colleagues, I think it best everyone just stop posting on this thread. May the dear Lord put a bullet thru my head when I respond to an Aviation Bowl Wonder.
I think it will be closer than most might think... but Lobos will lose...
sn't it ironic that New Mexico's games against WAC and CUSA teams on the road are not on TV?
What is ironic about New Mexico not having TV appeal?
That is exactly what I was thinking. Honestly, who cares about New Mexico? There would be very little TV buzz over that game. IF CUSA schools want to get on TV more often, they have to schedule good, recognized opponents. New Mexico & 1AA schools just won't get it done.
UNM is a good match up, it might be one of the more exciting games... I guess maybe because I am on the the western half of the US... and you are on the Eastern part... so you could careless... but I can assure you many people do care. Like ECU playing UNC doesn't phase me at all... i'm sure you can say the same with UTEP and NMSU.

If you are talking to me, I bet I live farther West than you do. My house has an Ocean View (Pacific).
Anywho, I understand what you are saying. My point is that you have to look at the games overall appeal. What kind of following does New Mexico have? Would there even be a large regional appeal?
On the other hand, ECU is playing a couple of games against possible BCS bowl teams.
As far as the UNC/ECU appeal, I see your point that it would have a more regional interest, BUT I was at Great America in Santa Clara/San Jose a few weeks ago and they had all kinds of UNC crap that you could win. Made me sick. I also see UNC crap in all kinds of sports stores and other places on the West Coast. The baby blue has some sort of National appeal....
I thought TU would get this game on TV. Hopefully at least Cox will pick it up as it should be a sellout since it is the grand reopening of the stadium.

Yep, but I bet the UNC was for basketball and not their football program... Hey I am from San Jo! orignally but right now i'm planted in El Paso... which I love also but gosh I do miss home... so I guess when I go back home i'll have a buddy with a oceanview, where abouts? Santa Cruz?

It does bug me that it's not on TV considering both teams have TV deals with the same network but that's ok. I'll still be able to watch 10 televised lobo football games including pre/post game shows and replays throughout the week, which is a lot more than CUSA fans are able to watch for their respective teams.
CBSCS chose TCU vs SMU which in IMO will be the biggest one sided game out of the 3 MWC vs CUSA matchups.
Go UAB!

TCU & SMU have history which draws some interest, plus it is a Dallas grudge match. Will it be a better football game? I don't know, but I imagine it will pull a little larger viewership.

I'll be able to watch UTEP football this year. If not with 50,000 of my friends at the sun bowl, I'll catch the road games on tv here. The only ones watching the mountain channel is the fans from those schools, oh wait, in san diego and las vegas, no one cares about those programs so there goes the ratings in those 2 cities.

That's the biggest difference, you're relegated to catch UTEP sports ONLY if you live in El Paso. What about all the UTEP fans throughout Texas? Nope...nothing, oh wait 3..exactly 3 football for the whole year, congratulations.
Every sports bar in the country will now have access to the Mtn. Exposure between what you're able to watch between UTEP and UNM is world apart starting this Wednesday when the Mtn goes national on Direct TV.

Let's be realistic here. How many people outside the nine school from the Mountain West are going to know about this channel let alone watch this channel. For beginners, I know about this channel and have directv and am a die-hard college football fan and will not watch because those schools just dont interest me. Do you think that if they are showing a big12 game or a sec game on espn and byu against wyoming on the mountain channel, i will watch the byu game. The only way i'll watch the mountain channel is if a CUSA team is playing against a MWC team. But there is no interest in those 9 schools. This friday, Ill watch SMU against TCU just so I can root for SMU to win.

Lets be realistic indeed. Fact is the Mtn is going national this Wednesday. What does that mean? It means EVERY single sports bar in the country will now have the ability to show the majority of MWC football. You are kidding yourself if the average sports bar is which makes a habit of showing multiple sports on multiple screens at the same time is going to say "Hey this is MWC football, I don't want to show this in my bar". By you saying you "will not watch because those schools just don't interest me" DOES NOT mean sports bars across the country (who cater to a greater audience) will have the same grudge against MWC football like you do. They will tune in regardless of who's playing and eventually will get noticed even more so in the long run, something CUSA's current TV package simply cannot match.
The long term benefits of the Mtn being distributed nationally is its greatest advantage over any other non-BCS conference.
I go to Hooters and Buffalo Wild Wings all the time with friends and every time I go they have their big plasma/LCD screens all tuned in to some sort of sport channel. The Mtn will now be a part of those lineups at one time or the other regardless if the average fan is interested....that's exposure right there.
CUSA and WAC fans are totally funny, first it was "nobody is watching, because nobody has it" now that it's going national they're all "nobody will watch because nobody cares". The bottom line is its distribution, access and ability to promote the league is unmatched by anything CUSA, WAC, MAC and SBC have.
Starting this Wednesday, the MWC TV deal is light years ahead of anything CUSA, WAC, MAC and SBC have. With all the mega TV deals being signed by most of the BCS conferences, all the major networks and their prime time slots are used up and leaving conferences like CUSA in the dust.
Thank god the MWC leadership showed enough foresight and had the guts to say no to ESPN. Two years later the MWC is well on its way to reap the rewards of having their very own nationally distributed channel. Our future is so bright I gotta wear shades!
Lobocrack is still trying to convince C-USA fans with his false propaganda? Get a life dude.
Fact is, C-USA's TV deal is MUCH better than anything the MWAC has. And we have better bowls, a better commissioner, a true national basketball program in Memphis (which would mop the floor with every MWAC team) and rising programs in that sport. Nobody is buying your crap Loboblast. Also, what makes you think every sports bar has DirecTV? The three sports bars that are close to my house have cable and even the few bars that might have DirecTV......will have ESPN and Fox Sports on their TV screens. Some things never change just like Nuevo Mejico's record in the NCAA's, right?
Get back to me when that crap is available on digital cable (I have Time Warner).....otherwise keep bringing the comedy, I'm telling you, never leave this board. You have been owned, slapped and lectured by most C-USA fans on this board.

This saturday, I will hit a couple of sports bar and I GUARANTEE none will have it on the Mountain Channel. I will post again this sunday to let you know I am right. No one cares about that silly MWC that no one knows about.
This saturday, I will hit a couple of sports bar and I GUARANTEE none will have it on the Mountain Channel. I will post again this sunday to let you know I am right. No one cares about that silly MWC that no one knows about.
Hit up that sports bar on South bound Lee Trevino, it's in a shopping center...I can't remember the name but I thought it was a pretty cool place. When I went their last year they had all their TV's on different football games throughout the place including the BTN. So why not the Mtn?
Anyways I'm very glad Direct TV doesn't agree with you and thinks their is a market......otherwise the Mtn would have never been added to their lineup.
The point is you guys play mid-week football next to the MAC, WAC and SBC for pennies. The MWC not only said "no thanks" but we now have our very own 24/7 sports channel that anybody anywhere is able to watch. CUSA can only dream of someday being at the same level as the MWC in regards of their TV package as a whole.
Now that the major BCS conferences are resigning long term TV deals with all the major networks, CUSA is left behind in the dust with their "scraps for mid-week" football contract with ESPN.
is the mountain on sat in EL Paso?
I went to one of Nashville's largest sports bars during the season last year and couldnt get to watch a Missouri game, which is a neighboring state to Tennessee and on ABC and the place had Game Plan. I dont think the MTN games will be popping up in sports bars across the country unless one of the local teams is playing a MWC team.
Lobocrack is still trying to convince C-USA fans with his false propaganda? Get a life dude.
I don't have to convince anybody, feel free to be ignorant if you want. I'll still be here posting facts of where UTEP and CUSA is compared to UNM and MWC. If it was untrue, you know damn well I would have been banned a long time ago.
Fact is, C-USA's TV deal is MUCH better than anything the MWAC has.
You're lying again Dallas! Tell the truth man....CUSA gets paid less and you have HORRIBLE kickoff dates. Those are facts! You even have some reasonable CUSA fans finally realizing it's no good to have multiple mid-week games all for the sake of bending over for ESPN. It hurts attendance and that in turn hurts revenue even more. We know because we went through it.
And we have better bowls, a better commissioner, a true national basketball program in Memphis (which would mop the floor with every MWAC team) and rising programs in that sport. Nobody is buying your crap Loboblast.
You have one extra measly bowl that pays the lowest amount out of all NCAA bowls. CUSA has 6 bowls for 12 teams while the MWC is sealing up our 5th bowl for 9 teams. Sure you have the Liberty Bowl but their only interest is in selling tickets or looking out for Memphis...they could give a rats ass about CUSA. At the very least the LV Bowl is helping the MWC get a better opponent for our Champ. You can keep your commish...ours just helped us land a better deal with DirectTV than originally intended and is in the process of adding more Bowls.
Memphis is damn good but as much as they are good the other 11 stink that bad. As much as you like to claim that you have "rising programs", fact is CUSA is STILL a 1 bid league, with pathetic attendance and small high school gyms. UTEP, UCF and S. Miss will know what it's like getting mopped on the floor when they go to THE PIT.
Also, what makes you think every sports bar has DirecTV? The three sports bars that are close to my house have cable and even the few bars that might have DirecTV......will have ESPN and Fox Sports on their TV screens. Some things never change just like Nuevo Mejico's record in the NCAA's, right?
I was obviously talking about sports bars that have satellite you genius. No matter, being on satellite is only the beginning. It took 2 long years to get here and it might take longer to get on cable systems outside our region but it will eventually happen.
This deal is only going to get better as time goes by.
Get back to me when that crap is available on digital cable (I have Time Warner).....otherwise keep bringing the comedy, I'm telling you, never leave this board. You have been owned, slapped and lectured by most C-USA fans on this board.

Isn't that what you said when the Mtn was only on Comcast....now that it's satellite you backtrack to digital cable.
Don't worry I'm not going anywhere I'll always be here to remind you of your place....which is the back of the bus. Don't think for once you or anybody here is going to hurt my feeling either...I have all the evidence on the net to prove my point and when you resort to name calling I know I touched a nerve and made my point across.
BTW...how are all those "newspaper articles on the east coast" helping you out! LMAO...that was classic!

That's exactly right. I wanted to watch TU in the NCAA tournament a few years back so I went to a local sports bar and every TV was showing the same game and they wouldn't change the channel on a single one. Thankfully I discovered a good casino sports book soon after that.
This saturday, I will hit a couple of sports bar and I GUARANTEE none will have it on the Mountain Channel. I will post again this sunday to let you know I am right. No one cares about that silly MWC that no one knows about.

UTEP is in the best shape it has ever been here in CUSA even though we have not done much winning the past 2 years. Our talent level has gotten better and from here on out, you will hear a lot about UTEP since our best players are freshman, sophomores and juniors so our program is in great shape. Our basketball program is where it was in the 80s and 90s when we dominated all the BYUs Utahs, and New Mexicos. Our football program never before had home and homes with great programs like Texas Tech, Texas, Kansas, Texas A and M, Arkansas etc. and now we get them one for one. We dont have to play body bag games where we dont get a return game. All of our games the past couple of years have been on Saturdays except for the buffalo game this year, but that was for us to have more days to prepare for Texas. Attendance is up and will continue to rise, support is great! 3 years ago only BYU had better attendance as far as NON BCS is concerned and look for that to be about the same this year and for the next years to come. Look for us to average 50,000 for our first 3 home games of the season. So why do you say that UNM is in better shape than us?
Yeah, our ESPN game against Texas is on Tuesday night.

You're obviously missing the point. The only time CUSA will play on ESPN on Saturday is when they play a BCS opponent. If you don't believe me check all the schedules for WAC, CUSA, MAC and SBC. The fact of the matter is you'll NEVER see a CUSA conference game on Saturday. They don't care about CUSA, that's why CUSA games are exiled to mid-week kickoffs along with the MAC, WAC and SBC.
ESPN offered that to the MWC and they said a resounding "no thanks".

Heck with the new SEC/ ESPN deal, I'm not sure you'll ever see a game with two non-AQ teams on Saturday even on ESPNU anymore, let alone ESPN and ESPN2. With less Saturday slots, it seems like leagues like the ACC and BE are going to have to play more even games on Thurs, Fri and Sun to get their ESPN exposure, taking away more of those slots from non-AQ leagues. Non-AQ leagues are going to left with playing on ESPNU on non-Saturdays or on Tues/Wed on ESPN or ESPN2 to get their ESPN fix. I think down the line you'll only see more Presidents and ADs saying "not worth it" like the MWC did. Heck we already saw USM change their tune from "anyone, anywhere, anytime" to "anyone, anywhere, anytime (except weeknights)" this year; I think the rest of the CUSA will follow suit with the next contract, unless ESPN offers oodles of cash (as they should- these weeknight games should be huge revenue producers, not "exposure" blackmail games as ESPN currently takes advantage of).
When a TV network asks you to move your game to Thursday night, and you say no, do you think they're going to reward you for saying no by giving your game a Saturday TV slot? Not a chance.

Both the Mtn and CBSCS have 2 games on that same day. I'm not sure if they would have a slot for a 3rd game considering the MWC has another one on VS to boot. IMO, either the UH@CSU or UNM@TU game should have been scheduled further apart from each other.
The reason UNMvsTu is not on is due to the fact that it is considered to be a mismatch. Tulsa is just on a higher level and this game will not even be close. The powers to be saw how Tulsa dominated the best team in the MWC last year and knows that UNM will be blown out. That is the reason why it will not be televised
