This is about it- leaving it all out there.

I could hold the writer to the fire for saying Stanton wants football back- because eventually you have to criticize the guy for cutting it.

Also, I think you have to ask yourself how dollars were taken from academics to fund a football team. How was that done?

Here's an assumption. It sounds like they said academics had a budget that was underfunded. Hence, they said "If we didn't have football that would be the million dollars we want for, well, I would guess THE PHARMACY SCHOOL! OH GOD, THE PHARMACY SCHOOL!"

That's an assumption of how ETSU came up with athletics was taking away dollars from academics.
Just because John J. Siegfried would rather go to the movies or play golf on Saturday is not a good reason to deprive Washington County of decent college football.
I'm not sure Siegfried would rather go to the movies, he is merely saying that if Johnson City doesn't have a football team it makes movies or whatever a more viable option for people looking to go out.

As are bars. So all you bible belters out there . . .

The thing about economic impact is that nobody has ever come up with a definitive formula. Many people feel that today's race in Bristol helps the shareholders of Holiday Inn and McDonalds a lot more than people in Bristol.

I don't buy that. I think the extra shift at McDonalds helps the laborer who toils there.

I wonder, remember the Citgo at the corner of Jack Vest Drive and State of Franklin?

Yes, it didn't sell beer or have the area or pumps the Roadrunner Markets nearby did.

However, I wonder if ETSU did have a football team if it wouldn't have stayed open. Five thousand people five times a year looking at your store as the most convienent to buy tailgating supplies would seem to be very lucurative.
OK, if you want to be serious. I'll lay off the lame attempt at humor.

I don't agree that fans play golf or go to the movies instead of a football game, they either stay at home and watch a game on TV or go to Knoxville. Ride 81S on a Saturday morning of a Tennessee home game and watch the “Vol Convoy”. Therefore I will make the argument that Knoxville has gained because of ETSU's loss of football.
