I think that would be a great game at Legion Field that would draw a nice crowd.
Any comments?
I could live with that.
I wish we could get Auburn to agree to another matchup. We could play the game as a "home" game and split the tickets with the Aubies. Of course, they would buy our extra tickets and make it more of a 70/30 "home" game for them, but we would get the attendance boost from having 70,000+ at a game. We bend over and take it, and Birmingham area Aubies can come out to support not just their team, but ours indirectly.

Unfortunately, I know it won't ever happen, but it sounds good on paper. 03-drunk

No thank you. We have nothing to gain by playing them.

+2 to playing Auburn.
Ray Smell-'n-Lick had a column today retreading the old "why don't the big boys play in-state, and more specifically vs UAB (UAT) and Troy (AU)?" discussion. Samford's renewal of a series with Auburn was the inspiration for his column.

I presume that's what got DB thinking about this thread.

Not-so-famous-Ray's article was almost as tired as I am of the subject.

UAB vs. Samford (which has already happened),
UAB vs. Auburn (which has already happened),
UAB vs. Troy (which has already happened),
UAB vs. Jax State (which has already happened),
UAB vs. Alabama State (which has already happened)

We already play everybody that counts in the state.

UAB vs. Samford again? Um... OK. Why not? What's the big deal? A division IAA team is a division IAA team... Alcorn State, Tennessee Tech... They're all good for a win. Who cares?

:::Shrug:::

As for Ray's ultimate point today (and I know it's not directly on topic with DB's thread here, but I bring it up, again, because the column was probably what got DB thinking on this in the first place and I didn't want to bore everyone with a new thread on the subject), I could care less about playing Alabama. I used to want to. Now I couldn't give less than a $#!+.

Ray, we have moved on. Quit, yes "quit", your day job. Might I recommend going to work manufacturing at a paper mill as penance for all of the paper you have wasted over the years. 02-13-domokun
Versus Samford really isn't as big of a draw as versus Alabama State or Alabama A&M. That said, I am not opposed to the idea of playing them.

Playing UAT or AU, whether we moved on or not, would be a boon to ticket sales and attendance, which we really need to improve.
If we are going to play a I-AA team (FCS) then I would rather play Alabama State and Alabama A&M because quite frankly their fan bases are much, much larger than Samford's and their bands are a hell of allot better. Next in line would be JSU, (Hats off to the Gamecock Band), then Samford.

To hell with UAT & Auburn. If they want to play, there is a two for one waiting or tell them to shove it up their anus.

I would much rather tailgate with the fans in Knoxville, Baton Rouge, Starkville, Oxford, & Columbia than set one foot in that toilet known as Tuscalooser and have to put up with the worst fan base on the planet.

You are so kind to them02-13-banana

I would rather play Samford at Samford. At least there might be a full stadium.

First of all I-A teams do not go on the road to I-AA teams. You pay the I-AA team a game guarantee for them to come to your place.

Second, logistically it would be impossible as Sibert Stadium is just too small to handle even one of our smallest crowds much less a descent sized one. 03-yawn

Hehe, heck when we were DIII and played them at Sibert we didn't have altogether that many fewer fans than they did!

(Don'tcha love how the local media--print and radio--coddles the hell out of precious Samford and even Birmingham Southern while making jokes about the only D-IA in town)

Having a heart attack? Hell no, you go to Brookwood! Hope you make it! 02-13-domokun

Tuscalooser... Don't know about that... that is a nice venue for tailgating and watching football.

For cripes sake, dude, what is your major malfunction?

My point is I would rather play at a full stadium at Samford then play with 60,000 empty seats at Legion. Spare me how our crowds wouldn't fit in their stadium. Example 1: Tulane game last year. Anyone who was at that game knows there wasn't 10,000 people there. I know that will never happen, but it would be more aesthetically pleasing to see a full stadium than one with tens of thousands of empty seats.

Ok, I'll bite. I know what you meant, but that's not the same as your point. Your point was to take a shot at our attendance. Was your point to suggest a solution? Was your point to demonstrate your support of UAB regardless of one of our weaknesses? You're just taking a potshot at the school we love...and a cheap one at that. Who do you think, on this board, wants to hear that? Who do you think needs to hear that? If this was a one time thing with you, you might get more slack. But virtually every one of your posts is intended to take a shot as something related to UAB and has no redeeming value beyond that.

And you're damn straight there were more than 10,000 people at the Tulane game. You're just flat wrong. Besides, if there were 30,000 in a 60,000 seat stadium would it really look that different?

If I wanna listen to people erroneously point out that "some high schools outdraw UAB" or "UAB might could fill Samford's stadium" (or that "our starting RB is the worst starting RB in all of D1"...that was a classic. Then I could go back to last year and your statement that we had the "lowest level of talent in all of D1"...wonder what Tulane thought about that...), I'll join the SECt of so-called college football fans in my company's breakroom. I damn sure don't want to read it on BlazerTalk. I'm all for freedom to post, but next time you feel the urge to bring us your version of a "reality check" do us all a favor and use your fingers to scratch your ass instead.

Funny how the beat writer for UAB says that the 2 most likely records for us this year are 4-8 and 3-9. Guess he's being negative too. Except no one say anything about that. Funny how he mentioned the need for facilities, guess he's being negative too. Sorry I have a realistic opinion that doesn't match the kool-aid drinkers on this board.

Seibert Stadium seats 6700 (I wonder what they would look like in a 70,000 seat stadium).

There are any number of us kool-aid drinkers who have predicted 3-4 wins. There are even a few wild eyed optimists who think we might possibly win as many as five or six if we get really lucky.

I'd say the number of us who think we need improved facilities, particularly that on-campus stadium approaches 100%.

The difference is that the rest of us don't have "realistic" opinions that are unfailingly negative and that we don't hammer the hell out of the school we claim to be fans of the way you do. It gets old. Real old.

Or, how about even some cautious optimism?
How about this idea? Let's play (and beat) UL-Monroe. After the fuss Bama fans made over the LSU coach's remark , we could have a field day without ever actually playing Bama. Just a thought.......
When I win the Lotto Next week I am going to fund a on campus 34,000 seat stadium02-13-banana
I'm a big fan of unbridled optimism, I don't care what anyone says.
How about this -

edit:
Feel dirty even being sarcastic. I really like Davis.

I just tell them, "We beat the last Sun Belt team we played.

Shuts 'em nicely. Briefly, anyway.

Davis can't coach a big man and no one on the team can rebound...LOL

I am still a fan, just being realistic

And Davis can't win a big game and the only time the Barl is full is when the #1 team in the country is in town.

Now you know, this board is for entertainment purposes only. And I am a big fan.

Why don't we have the basketball games at Hoover High, at least we would have a sell out for home games. If basketball is king at UAB, that is pitiful because you guys can't sell out the Barl. lol

But I am a big fan, can't you tell because I keep saying I am. Don't hate me because I am being realistic. If only we could get someone to teach rebounding. And how not to transfer. Or qualify. Just being realistic. Or win the big game. Or not lose the silly games that should be blow outs. Gosh, I am a big fan. And realistic as hell, though. And how about those injuries, what kind of excuse is that.

If you can't sell out the Barl, why have a team? High schools have bigger crowds at soccer tournaments. Frickin soccer. Why play basketball at all. Didn't they all get arrested last yr? Just bringing thugs on campus. Wait until they kill someone. Hey, don't get mad, I am a fan and this board is for entertainment purposes.

The other point I want to make is that the basketball program sucks. They get blown out in the NIT? WTF? lol lol

And people thought they should be in the NCAA? Now that is realism.
And that coach, didn't he get run out of the now biggest joke program in the country. Where do they find these guys?

But I am a huge UAB fan. Just stating facts.

- Being very sarcastic, but I am tired of bashers on a Blazer board.
