Cameron Moore

Here's his rivals profile:

http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprospe...50&sport=2

It has UAB as a soft verbal. The CUSA school he turned down was Tulsa.

Looks like the depth issue is becoming more clear getting this guy and Mayfield coming back.
Same guy who signed with USA?

yes

Mystery Big Man, but he's listed as a small forward? I'm confused.

Nevermind . . . he's walk-on. I'm not sure that we offered unless he qualified late.

I heard we may be getting one of these dudes too...

Please not the Bob Stone crap again. That joke has beaten several dead horses
Here is more on Cameron, from when he signed with USA. He was a nominee for McDonalds All American honors.

Man this is great. Big and good and he also sounds like a gifted student.

Combined with the Mayfield return, I now sigh in relief. I was never ever on that koolaid train that said we were just fine and dandy with 2 forwards on the team. Now I can't wait for November.
Anyone know the deal with this kid wanting to be in the state of Alabama so badly? USA and then UAB from TX. Does he have family here or something?
Kid sounds like a great student (USMA candidate!). Could he be coming on an academic scholarship?
+1 , wonderful news.
So what happened after he signed with USA? Did he just ask for his release and get it?
How official is this news?

Have there been any sightings on campus today of C. Moore or Mayfield?
It doesn't matter if they released him because he is a walk-on. If they didn't release him from his LIO, then he couldn't be on scholarship for one year. He is walking on, so it doesn't matter if they released him or not. He either was not released and has to walk on, or was released and decided to walk on here versus taking a scholly somewhere else..

I don't think relief if Mayfield returns. I think frustration.

I mean - even if he gets eligible, that only means one or two rebounds more each game.

Based on...? He averaged just under 4 per game in 14 minutes last year.

There just might be a reason he only averaged 14 minutes per game.

He OFFICIALLY received offers from:
Tulsa
South Al.
Army

He was also recruited by:
Albany
Lamar
ULL
Northern Illinois
Stephen F. Austin
Tulane

During his senior year he averaged 19.3 points, 10.2 rebounds per game, converting 58 percent of his two-point shot attempt. He also averaged 2.3 assists and 1.9 blocks per contest.

Moore chose the Jaguars over the United States Military Academy (West Point) and Tulsa. He is enrolled in AP classes as a high school senior and will graduate this year at the age of 17.

If there is such a thing as counter-recruiting (vs Mayfield)...

Maybe he is Mayfield's new tutor.....

Camaron was on campus today with his mom, being guided around by coach Prride.

Jeremy is enrolled for the fall term, but I couldn't get anyone to verify if he was eligible to play in the fall.

You may not have a lot of opportunity to be frustrated. Crawford, Kinnard, and it seems the new player are a leaner faster more versatile type of player. They will get minutes because they will fit in better with this seasons perimeter players. Unless Mayfield decides he is ready to be a force, he will not get many minutes.

More info from Steve Irvine! The Mayfield situation is still a little grey.

"*The latest addition to the roster _ walk-on forward Cameron Moore _ is on campus and enrolled in classes. Moore is not your typical walk-on player. The 6-foot-8, 205-pound Moore, who is from Roosevelt High in San Antonio, averaged 19.3 points and 10.2 rebounds as a senior and signed with South Alabama.
I'm not yet sure why he chose to give up the scholarship to walk on (at least for now) at UAB but hope to be able to ask him that soon. He obviously needs to add some strength but something tells me that Lou Deneen, UAB's outstanding strength coach for basketball, will take care of that in quick order.

*Transfers Elijah Milsap and Armon Bassett are also on campus. For those who have asked, Jeremy Mayfield is also on campus and on the roster. Also for those who have asked, I'm not sure if Mayfield is eligible for the fall semester but haven't been told he's not.

*The non-conference portion of the 2008-09 schedule should be released soon. One thing that fell through is UAB'S trip to Arizona State to play in a one-day, four-team classic against the host school. Apparently there was a glitch in the scheduling process and the Blazers were unable to book the trip to Tempe to play a game that would have been on national television."
Damn a glitch in the scheduling process??? Unable to book the trip? I wonder what really happened?
Update?

Rivals says we offered him, but Rivals also says we offered a lot of guys we didn't really offer. Why would he walk on over a scholarship offer? We're full.

It did not say WHEN he was offered but he was offered.

It happens............
Yep.

An offer is an offer. We don't need a three or a four. We need fives and shooters. He might have been the backup to Richard in the fall. He definitely wasn't one of the two bigs we recruited in the spring (JUCO guy who didn't qualify and Bawji, who did).

Like I said, Rivals says we offer a lot of guys we didn't offer. Wojcik's basketball recruiting is impossible to predict. It seems like every year Rivals shows us offering four guys who either aren't offered (there was another big guy who went to TCU last year we definitely didn't offer) or just aren't on the radar at all. Right now in football recruiting they show a kid committed to TU who hasn't even been contacted by TU. It's not that great of a recruiting service.
