According to forbes magazine.
- $32,000,000 guaranteed
- TOTAL CONTROL of the program
Wonder if any egos are going to be bruised because of this. I'm sure PBJ doesn't want to concede POWER to a coach, an outsider at that. I know bama fan and the Bama press will try to spin this as a positive thing but me thinks not. This shows that they indeed sold their souls to the Saban in return for a chance to beat AU and return UAT to its 'gaud given' place in college football.
The 32 million will end up being a great investment in hype, hope, and publicity but it will not be enough to cover a championship. They had it right initially when they went out and spent that money on players/prospects but the hole they're in is to deep for the 5'2" Saban to climb out of.
-#1 recruiting - key players never made it to campus
-Saban's national championship had a DC and an OC that are no longer with him.
-We've seem how Saban responded to the pressure in the NFL - he hasn't seen anything yet
-Lose to AU 2 more times then what
-Lose to MSU 1 more tIme and then what
-Tyler Watts/Brodie Croyle/Parker wilson all failed in the savior role

Who is this jerk planning to blame when he can't win the SEC. He is doing a lot to improve his public image, but everything I have ever heard about him from his Mich State days to the recent past is consistent;
That deep down, when no one is looking, in the middle of the night, he is truly a natural born arse hole.
In addition,
I truly believe that when Saban is run out of town, you will see Croom or Callaway, both of whom played for Bear Bryant, the head coach at Alabama. Expect that to happen in 2-3 yrs and Callaway will have turned UAB into a winner by then and Croom is already seeing success.
Either would be very successful at Alabama and bring some class.
At some point I would expect Auburn to be talking to Callaway also.
Obviously I am a big fan of Callaway and so will the doubters by the end of the yr.
I don't know of any of you who would turn down a guaranteed $32 million to coach at UAT regardless of the record each year. I know I would coach there, take the money and then leave after my time was up. I would do my best too. My only concern is the fools that call themselves fans that throw bricks threw coach's windows when they are unhappy with their performance. My safety would be a big concern. Other than that, you can't blame a coach for taking that kind of money with no recourse on poor performance.
Don't take this post as defending Saban at all. I just don't think many of you (myself included) that would turn down that kind of money.
Actually, I don't blame Saban at all. I blame the BOT for allowing this farce to occur. It's clear the BOT couldn't care less about academics or the success of the student. It's all about the prestige of the football program. Nothing else matters to them. Period.

That is the sad truth about UAT. My sister graduated from there (a year early too) and she thinks that it is sad that the whole university revolves around football.
Given the low cost of living in Alabama, it's not as if Saban ever has to spend much out-of-pocket money to live well. Heck, he probably has a university provided home and vehicles. And I bet he easily gets comped when going out (in state).
The road to hell isn't always paved with good intentions. Sometimes, it's paved with cash.
Why would Alabama want to hire Neil Callaway, as posted above? The guy won two games last year. Sounds a little bit like jealousy is creeping onto the board. Flame away.

Was listening to the round table on 94.5 not but an hour ago. (not actively, just happened to hit the station) They said this will bring in more money to UAT from the boosters with deep pockets because the coach of the school they support is on forbes. said forbes to the big money boosters was the equivalent to sites like rivals or scout for fans, and they should be proud that this guy is on their rag...

I hope Callaway gets UAB to the point where his services are in demand at other higher profile football schools. I do believe that he will
When Saban does leave UAT, the last 2 people they would look at would be Croom and Callaway. They already passed on Croom once, and if they were to hire him now that would be like admitting they were wrong the first time. They have too much pride for that.
I think the Saban hire made the Bama Nation think they can go out and hire whoever they want. Croom and Callaway would not be a big enough name to win over their fan base from Day 1. The rebuilding jobs both men have done have been impressive, but their fan base does not have the patience to go through a crummy season (
I vote for making Saban and Favre words that are filtered on this board.
$32 large. Guaranteed.
Guess it's time for the BoT to lecture UAB about fiscal responsibility again.
This is not a Nick Saban issue. If Nick Saban had been offered $32 million to coach and turned it down, he would have had no creditability left.
First and foremost, it's a University of Alabama Board of Trustees issue. In this day and time, with a continuingly receding economic structure in this country, with poverty and unemployment approaching record highs, and with the value of the dollar spiralling further and further downward; for ANY coach to be offered that kind of money by a specific group is totally out of whack with normal society. There to blame, not Nick Saban !!!!
Let's hold accountability where it's due. Nick Saban isn't at fault for accepting the contract terms.....the BOT is for offering it.

Agree Memphis. I sense some jealousy that they can afford to pay a coach $32 million and have the finances to do it... If it was UAB who had the $32 million coach.. nothing would be said. I wish UAB fans would quit worrying about their "daddy" the University of Alabama. UAB evolved from Alabama, so we have to deal with it. It will always be that way... at least in my lifetime.
Carry on.
Since when does criticizing fiscal irresponsibility and hypocricy equate to jealousy?

Revered gentleman of Memphis, this post is not about UAT nor the grand ol sport of football but rather about "pimps and prostitutes."
I don't blame Saban for taking the money, the guarantee, or the chance. I do blame the BOT for approving such a lucritive contract with such liberal terms and no conditions. Uat honors all of their storied traditions and the BIGGEST of them ALL is WIN at ALL COST! But according to one of the most respected business publications, this time they've taken the biggest risk in all of sports, PROFESSIONAL sports included.
This should be disturbing at any time compared to other pressing educational needs but especially against the current economic conditions.
I don't know, maybe it's just me. Again, I would take that contract any day but I would be a fool to extend it.
I do know this, BAMA BETTER HAVE HIS MONEY! and like most pimps he doesn't have to do ANYTHING to EARN the money except show up, put his hand out and there better be money or somebody is getting slapped.
I still think alot of UAB fans are intriqued by what Bama does and cannot figure out why. Is Alabama the standard or something? Are they the benchmark of what UAB should be? Seems like it. Everytime Alabama sneezes , UAB talks about it... But, I guess since we "came from them" .. I understand.
Don't bite the hand that feeds.... literally.
This thread didn't eventually lead to Saban and UAT. It started with Saban and UAT.
And as long as UAT is 60 miles west of UAB and part of the same BOT, there will always be talk about UAT and what they do.

this thread is making me sleepy

That is some funny stuff...
Hey Rob .. remember that old guy at Legion Field that would go...
ALLLAABAmmmaaaaa.... Go Blazers!!!!!!!
Why would Alabama want to hire Neil Callaway, as posted above? The guy won two games last year. Sounds a little bit like jealousy is creeping onto the board. Flame away.
My alma mater is Ohio State. Why would I be jealous of Alabama? We have our own (somewhat) overpriced coach, jailbirds, and rampant boosters. Not to mention a legendary coach. Bear kicked Woody's arse in the 70s, but only because Callaway was on the o line.
My comment was to insinuate that Saban is a jerk. He was at Mich State, LSU, and the Dolphins. Never said he wasn't smart for taking the money.
And, once he leaves, someone will be needed to rebuild the program the right way. With student athletes, not trouble makers, and it makes sense to go with a guy that has history at Alabama. Particularly someone that played or coached with Bryant such as Croom or Callaway. Brings tradition to Alabama football instead of a whore, IMO.
Not jealous and not flaming.
Nothing about Univ of Alabama, the BOT, or Paul Bryant, Jr gives me heartburn.
It is obvious that some of you don't recognize Fisher's character. If he was really interested in the job he would have taken it for the money they had available. He didn't want UAB that bad.
Hell, he didn't want Florida State for very long, but they put a $2 MM buyout on his contract. Without that, he would be the head coach at West Virginia.
Fisher would have been gone by now and some of you are still pining away for what could have been. I'll give you this. He would have won more than two games. Probably 4, maybe 6, because he would not have cleaned house. And he would be gone and there would be a hell of mess this year.
It also makes sense that Davis should be coaching at Alabama if you are the BOT. Do you want your best coach in the CUSA or the SEC?
Obviously I think Davis is an excellent coach. Someone had better be thinking about how to keep him in B'ham. Or the same people still crying about Jimbo will then have something to really cry about.

This cracked me up:
