but attendance at the Pirate Club road shows sure is. A friend of mine called and said he attended the Atlanta Pirate Club road show last night. There were apparently 9 people from ETSU (Mullins, Paty, Men's and Women's Tennis Coaches, I believe he said the men's and women's tennis coaches and 3 others) and he counted 12 alumni/boosters/friends. I wonder how much money they collected? How much money they spent?

A recap of the conversation...
The A-Sun is great and the facilities are great.

I know, I know... more gloom and doom.
At least someone was down there trying to drum up support. People on here used to be critical of BASA for not getting out there. Now we're critical because they are trying. Can't have it both ways people.

I'm just glad someone's trying to build some spirit in a student body and alumni group that's sorely lacking in that area.
Please tell me where I criticized the Pirate Club for going to Atlanta. I think it's great that they are doing it. I should apologize however for not telling the whole story. I think ETSU went to Atlanta twice while the Football Taskforce was up and running. Apparently, the attendance for those two events were significantly better. I being a football supporter choose to believe that the talk of restoring football affected the turnout while I am sure other people will say it was due to dates or the venue.

I see the lack of attendance as further proof that people are not happy with the direction of ETSU athletics.

Buc2002, I am glad they tried but after at least 3 visits to Atlanta wouldn't you expect more than 12 people to show up especially since "everything is better than ever", "the conference is great", and " we are raising more money than ever"?

Why do you think no one attended? Lack of interested parties? Let's drop all sports then since no one cares. That was one of the excuses for dropping football wasn't it?
I think that lack of interest is what might be the scariest part of being an ETSU fan. The lack of disinterest -- with or without football -- has always been sad.

I agree that attendance may have been down because of the football decision. However, it could have also been the steady downpour of rain that hit Atlanta around 5 p.m. Wednesday night. It even cancelled the Braves/Cubs game.

Just thought that should be pointed out.
How about this?

You're an ETSU fan in Atlanta.

Now, if you're an ETSU fan, why in the name of anything would you WANT to go to an event that David Mullins is at?

Seriously. Unless this guy was in a dunk tank or something, why would you want to go to an event where he is at?

To be lied to? That's essentially what you're going to get if you go to this.

I'm embarassed there were 12 people there. I really want to know who these dupes were.
2002- The lack of spirit and support for ETSU is direct result of poor decisions made by Paulie and his cronies. Quit making excuses for these people.

I'm tired of hearing how its the students and the communities fault for a lousy athletic program. No one wants to spend money on an inferior product and that is what Paulie gave us, the A-Suck.

Why would it take nine people from ETSU to have meeting in Atlanta to build up support, especially when the athletic budget is so small? I tell you why, its a free trip to hot-lanta. Why would you want to have a meeting at the airplane hanger when you can get an all expense paid trip to Atlanta? I'm sure the people were enthralled to hear about tennis and soccer, especially during the kickoff of football season. Shucks, I forgot, we are the only D1 university in the state of Tennessee that doesn't have a football team or a marching band. Oh, I know, they were telling them about the unfinished soccer stadium and breaking ground for the softball stadium, really hot sports items. Way to go dave mullins.
