Meet the Ariel Atom 500. You might have seen the original Atom on Top Gear. If not you ought to look that episode up on Youtube. In any case, the new one has just a teensy bit more engine. Tube frame, 1100 lbs, 2.4 liter supercharged V-8, 6 speed tranny. 500 bhp at 10,000 RPM! 0-60 in 2.9 seconds! 0-100 in 6.9!

I think I just got DNA all in my keyboard. We're talking 1 hp per 2 lbs. here, that's one helluva power to weight ratio.

At only 1100 lbs, MPG shoudn't be an issue.

I saw it on some show the other night. It's freakin' sweet.

A fast, open-wheeled, street legal car would be the 5h!t.

I have loved this car since I saw it on Top Gear a while back. I want one.

For those that haven't seen it in action, here it is being driven on Top Gear. Keep in mind this is not the 500. It is only the 300 horsepower version.



Also, it looks like the motorcycle company KTM is going to be attempting to compete with the Atom soon with their version called the X-bow.
