OK, I am bored, and the number countdown to football got me interested in jersey numbers (basketball only).
As most know, there are 36 legal jersey numbers in college basketball.
They are any single or double digit number as long as either digit does not go above five.

OK here is some trivia.
Easy ones first:
1. Why is the above rule in place regarding basketball jerseys? Answer provided by USAFBlazerfan - Ref must be able to signal the number with one hand.

2. Which three jerseys has UAB retired? (if you don't know, go to a game sometime) Answered correctly by Lightemup70. 14, 20, and 40.

3. Of the three retired jerseys, one jersey number was worn after the person for whom it was retired wore it, but before the jersey itself retired. What is the number and who are the two players. Larry Rembert wore #40 after Jerome Mincy. And then the number was retired for Mincy - answered by bftb

4. What two legal numbers have never been worn by a UAB player? Ans. 1. 00 (provided by lightemup70)
2. 43 - answere provided by bftb

5. What three legal numbers have only been worn by one player - and name the player?
1. - 0 Squeaky Johnson - Answered correctly by Hooverblazer
2. 20 - Oliver Robinson - answered by bftb
3. 53 - Alan Ogg - answered by hooverblazer and 58-56

6. Four players have switched jersey numbers in the middle of their career at UAB. Who are they? (Hint- all four are this decade.)
1. Answered correctly by Motley Blazer - Derrick Broom wore 11 his first year, then switched to 42.
2. Answered correctly by Motley Blazer - Mo Finley wore #12 his first year, then switched to #10 for the rest of his career.
3. Gabe Kennedy started with #2 and switched to #4. answered by blazerjay
4. Bill Armstrong started with #10 and switched to #15. answered by blazerjay
and I missed a fifth player apparently - Eric Bush switched from 33 to 3.

7. Which number has been worn by three members of the 1000 point club? and who are they? Ans. provided by 58-56 - Robert Shannon, Elbert Rogers and Demario Eddins wore #23

8. With 5,738 points, this number has had the most points scored by players wearing it. What is the number? (hint: answer is not same as #7 and it was worn by a player this past year)
Answered correctly by Motley Blazer - 24 has 5738 pts and will continue to grow this year with Darth Vaden scoring at will. The next closest is #23 with 4006 pts.

9. This number has only had 98 points scored by players wearing it, the lowest of any that has been used. What is the number? (hint: it was worn by a player this past year and more than one person has worn it)
Answer - 45 provided by bftb - Worn by Z with 35 points, Tim Richards with 22 points, and Rod Ollie with 41 points.

Good luck for those who wish to play.
#1: The numbers must be relative to the number of digits on the refs' hands so they can signal the player's number with any combination of one or two hands for calls, fouls, etc.
#2: 14,20,40? I'm pretty sure on at least 2 of them.
#2: Yes, 14 and 20, but I couldn't remember the third (shame on me... I just gazed at those numbers 2 weeks ago.)
For #4 I want to say 00 is one. Squeaky was 0, but I can't think of a player wearing the other.

I was right. #40 was Jerome Mincy

Of course... (smacks self)
Robert Shannon, Elbert Rogers, DeMario Eddins and the Immortal Hal Lewis all wore #23, but Chris Lee and #4 have scored more points.

Right about the three 1000 point members who wore #23, but wrong about which number has scored more points.

#4 comes in at #3 with 3713 points.

5. I'm going to say Squeaky Johnson-0 for one of them.
#6- Broom, Finley
#8- 24
I'm not sure what has and hasn't been answered by now, but here are my contributions:

For question 4, I think the other number never worn was #43?

And, for question 8, you gave that one away today....it's gotta be #24.

And, for question 9, that has to be #35. If so, I hope the point total increases considerably next season.

You are right about #43. Never been worn.
Yep. 24. but Motley Blazer got it first.
and wrong on #35. Howard Crawford and Tony Lewis have scored 212 pts in that jersey. It is next to last on the point total.

So...is it 45? Z wore it this year, and the only other player I can remember wearing it was Tim Richards. That sure doesn't equal a lot of points.

Correct. Worn by Z with 35 points, Tim Richards with 22 points, and you forgot Rod Ollie with 41 points.

Apparently, Mike Davis forgot Ollie too. But that's another story.

On question 3...that would have to be #40. Rembert wore it after Mincy did, though I'm not sure the time line for when it was retired.

On question 5....no one else but Oliver wore #20. Not sure who the other one would be.

As for question 6, I can't think of any other players this decade who have changed numbers (it's easier for me to remember the earlier years than the more recent years)...but are you sure they're all in the last decade? I thought I remembered Tim Richards switching numbers.

#6 Bill Armstrong #10 & #15 / Gabe Kennedy #2 & #4
Eric Bush went from 33 to 10.

Correct on Question 3.
Correct on question 5. One answer remains
Question 6 - the media guide shows that Tim Richards wore #45 and 14, but that is not possible (what!!! the media guide has mistakes. No!) because he only played 1980-81 and Jonath Nicholas wore #14.
As Blazer Jay answered, the two others I was looking for were Gabe Kennedy and Bill Armstrong.

I'm not sure about Eric Bush and I can't seem to remember. The current media guide shows that he only wore #3. But the media guides from his two years shows he wore #33 his first year and #3 his second year. The media guide the year following his years show him only as #3. If he did change numbers, that is one I missed.

58-56 - Bush didn't wear #10. That was Eric Holmes.
Only one question remains.
Three jersey numbers have been worn by only one player. Two of those have been answered.
20 - Oliver Robinson
0 - Squeaky Johnson

Hint: The last one was scheduled to be worn by a player who would have played last year, but did not make it to the first game.
53
My 1984 game program for UAB-Auburn shows #43 belonging to John Brown, freshman guard from Memphis. Don't recall him ever playing though.

I don't believe he ever played. I vaguely remember him as well. He does appear in the 1984-85 media guide as well, and if he ever played, they didn't count his stats.

53 is correct. Do you know who wore that number? If not, ask your dad? I bet he knows.

The Blazer center. Alan. Ogg.
ding ding. Ogg is correct. Keenan Ellis was scheduled to wear 53 this year had he made it to the first game.

All questions have been answered. You may take your hands off the buzzers.

Actually, I did a little research, and Tim Richards did in fact switch numbers in his two seasons at UAB. The media guide is wrong, as you pointed out, but it is in the years he played, not in his jersey numbers.

He wore #14 in 1979-80, and #45 in 1980-81 (the year Jonath wore #14). Interesingly, in the 1980-81 team photo, Jonath is wearing #22. There must have been a problem with some of the uniforms at the time of the photo, because he always suited up in #14 during his two years as a Blazer. Also, in that photo, Richards was the only UAB player without a jersey on--he was just wearing a warm-up.

Ya'll got me on that one.
