So I was listening to JOX today and during the Trash on the Table segment they reported this:

A 25 year old was arrested after a minor traffic accident (I didn't catch where, I think it was in Belgium). He had been drinking. When questioned by the police he admitted to drinking 20 liters (!) of beer. That's roughly 5.2 gallons, or something on the order of 42 pints. A pony keg is 7.5 gallons or 29 liters, and he drank 2/3 of one. By himself.

His blood alcohol level was .85. For perspective, in most states 0.08 is considered drunk driving, and .40 is considered the level at which you are likely to die of alcohol poisoning... and he was at .85!

Lord have mercy on drunks and fools. This guy qualifies on both counts.

*edit to fix misplaced decimal, no wonder you thought he died*
i think he drank that much to sterilize his internals.
I don't see how it is possible that he survived that. Are you sure he didn't die?
All I know is what I heard on the radio... but they typically mine the newspapers. <shrug>

*edit* I googled "drank 20 liters" and got this:

Driver had 20 litres 'for the road'
Article from: Agence France-Presse

From correspondents in Sofia, Bulgaria

August 05, 2008 08:36am

A MOTORIST stopped by Bulgarian police after a minor traffic accident admitted he had drunk 20 litres of beer - and promptly passed out, local TV reported.

The man had a blood alcohol reading more than double the level usually considered lethal, bTV TV said.

The 25-year old driver, who was not named, registered 0.851 blood alcohol content. Bulgaria's legal limit is 0.05 percent, and 0.40 is often fatal.

Bulgarian police have upped the number of road checks lately following a spate of serious accidents.

More than 1000 people were killed in road accidents in 2007 in Bulgaria, which has a population of 7.7 million.
I've been enjoying the local beer here in Moldova. Really good stuff! I'm going to have a Ukranian beer tonight. 03-drunk
Glad to see that it was updated to .851 and that it wasn't 8.5. at those concentrations, you would have been able to see the alcohol in his blood.
