I am sick and tired of fans from a absoulutely pitiful football school taking shots at Brett. He is a legend in the NFL and at USM. Your school meanwhile is barely still playing football. Worry more about putting 10,000 fans in the dump known as Legion Field instead of what one of the best players in the history of the NFL is doing. He wants to play football. So if Green Bay doesn't want him, all they have to do is release him. Not hard to understand unless you are a fan of a nothing football school whose fans are jealous as hell of Favre.

When he retired, the Packers relied on that and not only began plans to have Rodgers take over the team, they spent a draft pick on a back up qb. I don't think the Packers would refuse to trade him, it is just that the two ideal situations are within their division. So, if he just wants to play, he should accept a trade to any team. Same problems exist if they just outright release him. Would people feel the same if Favre didn't retire, but just demanded to be released or traded? Probably not, especially in the case of a request for a release. By retiring and then coming out of retirement, thereby forcing the Packers to move on and plan to go with Rodgers, Favre has put Green Bay in a position of the bad guy that doesn't want him to play. You don't have to agree with the Packers to understand why they are a little frustrated with the situation. That said, they should go ahead and name him as the starter and try to make a run knowing that such a decision will almost guarantee that Rodgers is gone next year and that, despite Favre being the best choice for this year, such a decision will push back the amount of time to rebuild.

I have mixed feelings on the matter, myself. I used to really like Favre, also. But he selfishly put the Packers in a really bad spot, and the Packers reacted badly. I really don't think there are any image winners from this whole mess. Favre lost the respect of many, and the Packers upper management has let their pride be their downfall. Both parties have come out of this looking like idiots.

And since it's been brought up, I pretty much rolled my eyes at Jordan, too. Never really liked him much (though I respect him for his accomplishments and talent, and what he brought to the game...much like now feel about Favre). I just feel like when you make a statement, you should stick to it. Don't turn around and do an about face. It makes you look like a liar. If you're not sure that you're done, then the answer is very simple. Don't come out and say that you're retiring!

Jordan at least stayed retired for longer than 2 weeks and at the time he first retired he was dealing with a lot of off-the-court issues such as the murder of his father. Furthermore, he didn't play the "I might be retiring game" for the prior four off-seasons like Favre has.

Favre loves football, no doubt, but I also have to believe that he loves being the face of the Packers even more. When the Packers announced veteran rookie QB Aaron Rodgers as their starter I think that's when Favre wanted to come back. He simply could not handle someone else having his position, on his team, in his stadium. I know it's a tough pill to swallow but damn, if you didn't want to retire then why did you in the first place? You also cannot tell me that the Packers forced him to because up until this moment they have been nothing but patient with him.

Favre was a very good player and has done a lot of good things for his communities but this is one of the most selfish acts I have ever seen. He says he wants to play but only if he can play for one of a few teams. He wants to be released but doesn't want the Packers to get anything in return. He doesn't want the money to stay retired but he wants his old job back, the same one he left just a few weeks ago. The only way Favre will be happy is if he gets everything EXACTLY the way he wants it.

Ok, so Brett wants it his way. Now answer me this: Why should Brett Favre try not to get it his way? Are there any superstar athletes that don't try to manipulate the situation so that they are on the team they want to be and getting paid the money they want (and I think Brett established that he is not in for the money)?

He made the mistake of retiring and lost his old job. Should all retirees who decide that they want to start working again settle for a janitorial spot, or as free American be allowed to look for the job they want?

The Packers have the contract and are free to do whatever they want with it (just as you're free to flush your money down the toilet). But Brett is free to do what he can within his rights to play where he wants. This is the classic two unmovable opposed objects case.

If they would trade him to the Vikings or the Bears, the Packers would get plenty in return. The problem is, they know that if the Vikings or the Bears get Favre, that team will win the division (and the Packers will not, and those 2 losses don't help their Wild Card chances).

2. It doesn't matter what sport it is, you rarely see a superstar player traded within the division and most of the time they are sent to the other league!. Look at the trades over the past few years in all sports: Manny to the Dodgers, CC Sabathia to the Brewers, Griffey Jr to the White Sox, Shaq to the Suns, Garnett to the Celtics, etc, etc, etc.

These guys are getting traded to teams with playoff aspirations. In the NFL the only teams with playoff aspirations and don't have quarterbacks... are in the NFC North. Oh boo hoo, they have to have a well-trained backup ready in case their superstar quarterback can't play anymore. Why not? The first year Favre doesn't play for the Packers, they are not going to the playoffs. If Aaron is so itchy to play, then improve his worth, trade up for a better draft pick (trade him to a mid-range team that if they miraculously play well have the conditional clause give GB a 2nd round pick as well they can use to trade up for a higher 1st round pick). They can draft another young quarterback that will have more years than Aaron to play the starting role (assuming Favre does eventually reach the point he is unable to perform).
