I believe Mayor Langford is neither "crazy" nor a "fool". We just aren't used to a mayor who "DOES THINGS" rather than just taking up space. Sure, some of his aspirations won't work out, but he is making things happen for the betterment of the city. Will we win the 2020 Olympics? Very probably not, but we won't be the only unsuccessful aspiring city on that list. Only one city can make it. The same number of D1A FB teams will actually win the 2008 National Championship. Does that mean all those other teams should never have tried? There is value in playing to win, even when the odds say you don't have a chance to "win it all".
The Mayor is trying to get the local populace to get into the habit of thinking "large" rather than its customary "small" way of thinking. I want UAB to think "win it all" every day rather than "win a few, lose most" like we have for too long. I want B'ham to get used to thinking the same way about things that matter for building our future.
Another thing about changing the populations self-perception about the city-- They will be less willing to accept the violent thugs among them and to support legal efforts to clean up this city by reporting them to police. That is a "win-win" deal for us all.

What a flair for the dramatic. Good to see that the taxpayers funds were used appropriately to make sure his wheeled $15 crate was protected by armed officers in case some redneck got it confused for a roller cooler full of beer.

I've read most of his plan and aside from his really stupid entrance and showmanship the core ideas are good ones. Whether or not they are feasible is another thing and I don't quite understand the financing part of it so I'll read it again more closely.
