From the top down:
*The regular season opens in Memphis against Fairfield as part of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off (date unknown). Yes, it is an unusual setup.
*Yes, the game time against UMass is 11:00 PM CT.
*Remaining game times and TV will be announced at a later date.
Other teams in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off
Chattanooga
Fairfield
Missouri
Seton Hall
Southern Cal
Virginia Tech
Xavier
Fairfield will be placed in the opposite bracket (due to playing Memphis in Memphis earlier in the season) and the Tiger's 1st Round game would be against Chattanooga, with the other half of our bracket having USC and Seton Hall.
Special thanks go to Dan Wolken of the Commercial Appeal.
Curious, how do you know the Chattanooga Memphis game would be on ESPNU?
Curious, how do you know the Chattanooga Memphis game would be on ESPNU?
Since ESPN runs the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, I used last year's televison schedule for the event. ESPNU aired the 1st Round, all Consolation Rounds, and Semi-Finals, while ESPN2 aired the 3rd Place game and Finals. I see no reason for that to change, but if it does, I'll correct the graphic.
What about a game with arizona?

Come on Comca$t, do us a favor and get ESPNU!
thought we were suppose to be playing West Virginia?
What about a game with arizona?
The 2 game series with Arizona is over. We played in Tucson during the 2006-07 campaign, and the Wildcats came to Memphis in 2007-08.
thought we were suppose to be playing West Virginia?
The deal was never cemented for 2008-09 and the Mountaineers have already released their non-conference schedule for this coming year (2008-09). Memphis is not on it.
Maybe 2009-10?
what about Ohio State?
fell through, supposedly looking at a 2009-10 series start instead
Syracuse 12/20 Cincinnati 12/29 according to them

Deal was not in place until 2009-10
Barring a surprise addition, I believe our 2008-09 is 99.9% complete now...according to the messageboard the schools use to try to get games, we are only looking for one buy game to complete our schedule. Obviously a made-for-tv type thing can happen late, like with Georgetown last year, but you get my drift.
Memphis-Mens

Who's "them"? I don't see anything on either's website yet.
This is the information from Goodmans Blog he claims on information from them. Should this be phrased another way ? Thanks.
I remember the Missouri Valley Commish blabbing his mouth a few years ago about playing anybody, anywhere....we are offering a substantial guarantee for one game at the Forum and no one is ringing the phone?
This was in Sunday's CA by Dan Wolken. Definitely more exciting about next years schedule than this coming years.

Memphis is still looking for one more home game to finish out its schedule, but it won't be against a top-level team. The Tigers feel they already have enough difficult games, especially on the road. ... The 2009-10 non-conference schedule looks like it will be absolutely loaded. Calipari and Louisville's Rick Pitino are talking about a game at Madison Square Garden, and the Tigers are also talking to Kansas about playing in a holiday tournament in Las Vegas.
So I'm not sure if someone answered this already but....are we playing another closed practice this year with St. Louis or someone else? I noticed only 1 exhibition game on there...

The exhibition against CBU is only assumed at this point. No word on a closed scrimmage (like SLU last year) yet.
Wow! Is there really going to be a 25 day layoff between the Cincy and UT game? Its going to be tough going into noxville with a layoff that long

No. We don't have dates for most games yet. I've only posted the dates we know (or think we know). Once more of the schedule comes out, I'll update it.
Damn, I REALLY hope that Syracuse game is any other day. I have to be out of town that Saturday and Sunday.

This officially marks my excitement beginning for the 09-10 season
Has there been any more talk about a game at Madison Square Garden this year?

Doesn't look like it's going to happen this year.
Per Andy Katz blog on ESPN.com:
• Chattanooga became the eighth team to join the Puerto Rico field for the Nov. 20-23 tournament. The field also includes Memphis, Xavier, USC, Virginia Tech, Missouri, Seton Hall and Fairfield. Fairfield will play at Memphis in a game prior to the event, but the two teams will be placed in opposite brackets.
Good job Andy, you're only 2 weeks late with that info. Derby strikes again!

Schedule updated (see first post in this thread).
*Austin Peay will not be on our 2008-09 schedule. The Govs have released their official schedule and the Tigers are not on it.
*Lamar has announced their official schedule and we play them on Jan 3rd.
Now that the NBA has released their schedules, the Tigers' official schedule may not be far away. One can only hope.

You havel listed the Fairfield game as part of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Is this correct?
You havel listed the Fairfield game as part of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Is this correct?
Technically, yes. That is correct. It's an unusual setup, but it is an opening round game considered to be part of the PRTO. In addition, Chattanooga plays at Missouri in an PRTO opening round game.
To be honest, it's my belief that in order to guarantee Fairfield's and Chattanooga's participation in the event, they (the Stags and Mocs) may have insisted to play an additional significant opponent. So possibly the PRTO approached Missouri and Memphis to add these teams to their schedules.
Of course, it could be the opposite. Maybe Missouri and Memphis were having difficulty filling out their schedules and needed an additional home game and asked the PRTO to help them out to guarantee both Memphis' and Missouri's participation in San Juan.
You might wonder how the PRTO could have such pull... well remember, the PRTO is run by ESPN.
I have no source for either scenarios, but it seems highly likely that one of the two is what happened. I'm sure we will get better and more accurate info as to why this is what it is at a later date... paging Mr. Wolken, Mr. Dan Wolken...

Game time @ Tennessee announced... 2:30pm CST. Schedule updated (see first post in this thread).
So it seems like Calipari, even though does not like to play his assistants, will end up pretty much playing all of them...
Umass - Derreck Kellog
Drexel - Bruiser Flint
UTEP - Tony Barbee
Lamar - Tom Schuberth (sp?)
Update: Marist has released their non-conference schedule. The Tigers take on the Red Foxes Tuesday, December 2nd in Memphis. Schedule has been updated.
Update: Rice, SMU, & East Carolina have released their schedules.

No need in being a smart ass. I didn't know if there was an official schedule release date or not. Some people just always have to try and be funny.

Memphis is still trying to secure 1 more home buy game. There is no official schedule release date, it just comes out when it comes out.

I wasn't. That is the answer. It will be out when Cal is done with it. He's said that. That has what has been reported.
