Full Version: Big rumor to be revealed at Tech's "Happening XVII"
You're currently viewing a stripped down version of our content. View the full version with proper formatting.
"The Happening" is an annual event held in the West Monroe convention center for Tech fans to discuss Tech. Speeches are given about academics and athletics. It's the biggest offseason event of the year. Last year 1200 folks showed up and they ran out of room, so this year they moved it into the main arena.

Anyhow, Dooley mentioned at a meeting in Ruston that big things would be announced at the Happening this year. Ruston insiders have stated that:

"There will be an upgrade to the south endzone facility, to include upgrades of the fieldhouse and the addition of "club" seating.

Also: Part of the plan is a new Lady Techster softball complex at the top of the hill across from the intramural center with a multi-sports dressing room facility next door for softball, track, tennis, etc. New intramural fields to replace those taken by the new construction. Stadium Drive would be eliminated by this construction. I'm sure there's more to the plan but that's the part I'm familiar with. The new softball stadium would be completed before Tech hosts the 2010 WAC Tournament.

Most of the area Tech owns north of JAS will be the new research park and the lake.

Also Dooley is on record saying we will have a video board for the 2009 football season.

These facility upgrades are making my head spin. Never before has so much happened so fast in Tech Athletics. I decided to make a list based on info from different web sites and press pieces on recent improvements.

The south enzone upgrade project - planned
The video board - planned
Brand new turf - replaced due to a warranty-has stripes in endzone instead of paws
New website, includes downloadable ringtones and phone backgrounds, online ticketing
New logos, including the creation of a new font and wordmark
New Nike contract
New football locker room, Dooley raised over 500K in 4 months on the job for this
New MBB locker rooms and offices
WBB got a new locker area and professional upgrade to their locker and lounge facilities
New "Karl Malone Court" which is spectacular
New weight room for basketball
ATAC "plan" in place for more basketball upgrades
Tech 2020 athletics plan put in place with real goals
External Affairs Strategic Plan
New softball scoreboard done already
New softball field planned (see above)
Planned multi sports dressing rooms, also rumored to include women's sports offices
New Baseball scoreboard and press boxes, plus a small scoreboard behind the plate
New positions added: COO for AD office, asst str+conditiong and academic support for football, Karl Malone for bball
Upgraded meeting rooms to make them more functional
Cleaned up the fieldhouse to make a more "businesslike" attitude
New tennis courts
New track complex with adjustable seating that switches to face tennis
New intramural sports facility that includes pools for NCAA competition teams
-also includes new bowling facility since our Wbowling team is good
New permanent tailgating pavillion, bathrooms and storage included.
More summer meetings where Dooley tries to garner more fan support
"Champs" renamed to LTAC and the benefits modified, major push for more members
Spring game renamed to "T-Day" and was a huge success with great attendance
(the 5103 attendance beat 43 other D-1 schools)- That's up from a few hundred
The "Game Day Experience" is planned for the MSU game
(includes stuff like wind screens, banners, and a general "dressing" of the stadium)
6 home football games for first time EVER
BCS football team playing us in Ruston for first time EVER

Also don't forget that a few stalwart fans got our scout site, http://www.bleedtechblue.com up and running with great stories. http://www.latechreport.com is another new fan site.

Although Dooley isn't credited with every improvement, I think it's safe to say he is an excellent AD for his vision and the ability to carry it through to an excellent final product. Some of these changes are small but necessary for a program, such as the website, logos, and online ticketing. People will say "no duh" to that but the old administration just didn't get it. Dooley appears to "get it."

I'm sure there's some stuff I wasn't able to remember but I just wanted to provide this update because of the excitement of the new plans.

Next thing, you all will be getting 'lectric lights.

What plans are in place to either move your school to a metropolitan area or else increase the population in your present location making it possible that sometime in the future you MIGHT be conssidered for cusa once we have brought in utsa, charlotte, mdl tn, fl intl, etc and need another one. Also, why dont you take this to another board where there might be some interest. I am proud to be from a school and conference that doesnt have to go and clutter other boards, this is childish.
no this is all just to counter attack all your bullshite about Tech never upgrading their facilities. Of course it will never be good enough for a ULM grad like you EE

This depicts exactly where Tech fits. Teams have played 11 or more games a year for 35+ years. This is the first time that La Tech has played at least 1/2 of its games at home?
The first BCS game in Ruston? That again puts you behind 80% of the sunbelt.

theATLDawg Wrote:

------------------------------------------------------------
Well, well, man those are some big PLANS. Also, I have not attacked Leechie for never upgrading their facilities. You are just like the rest of the regional Louisiana schools, you do not have the funds. I am impressed with your PLANS though, let us know when you have the money. Locker room cleaning and painting, replacing field turf that was under warranty, logos, softball scoreboard, blah blah blah are nominal. Field house upgrade, end zone club seats, video board, you are talking millions not the pocket change already spent. Did dooler tell you when the money would be available and its source. You do realize fund raising efforts at Lechie have fizzled. Ronnie Walker, one of the best men who eveer worked at Leechie, quit in disgust after you guys had harped and raved for years about upgrades and a plan and when it was announced the donors disappeared.

no oddly enough I haven't realized a fraction of the stuff about Tech that you have. hmmmmm makes you wonder. Quite sniffin our drawers stupid Injun.
All one has to do is to look at the audited financials to get the truth. The ULL Ragin Cajun fans have kindly linked them on their site http://www.raginpagin.com/

Therein one will find that La Tech's ticket sales in all sports for the entire year was $837,585. Sales in football only totalled $539,701. If Tech charges a modest $10 per ticket, that means they sell less than 54,000 football tickets for an entire season. If they charged $20 per ticket, it would be 27000 tickets for the entire season.

Also of interest is the $4.4 million in "direct institutional support" (aka taxpayer subsidy). they also get $1.946 million in "facilities support" as a revenue and an expense; this is the university leasing atheltics the facilities, and then giving them the subsidy too pay the lease. The effect is to artificially bloat the budget.
What
? WGAF. Things are getting done and they are getting paid for somehow. So let me understand this. First the problem is Tech hasn't done anything to upgrade their facilities. Now they do and its about how it's going to get paid for. Why don't you just admit that you hold a grudge against Tech and move on. I mean jesus, we have a whole sports village going in right now and now you are telling us that until Tech laces the gutters in gold we will not be good enough. Get a life and stop sniffing our drawers.

Their entire program is a sham. Anyone looking at it realistically, like you just did, can see the holes. Your calculations are almost exactly correct, they had fewer than 6500 paid fans per game in football.

and yet all this stuff continues to get built. Even smoke and mirrors as you put it can't hide the fact that we are getting top notch facilities. But then I guess you are just going to continue showing pictures of the football stadium with burnt out grass and a track that no longer exist. It's all part of your campaign

theATLDawg Wrote:

----------------------------------------------------------------
Continues to get built? Well, lets see. Back in 2000 or 2001 Tecchies borrowed $1.2mil to fix their field house. No payments were made, only interest on the loan, and on Dec 2007 still owed the debt to the bank. You have added new turf, fixed the lights at the stadium, got a new web site, a new logo, new nike contract, new basketball floor, new softball scoreboard, new baseball scoreboard, fixed the press box at baseball stadium, REMODELED the football & basketball locker rooms and made space for weight room & office (no new structures). That is the athletic dept record, all of which might total $2mil. The students passed a fee to build the tennis courts, pool, bowling alley, etc as part of the student life center on campus, not a part of athletics. EVERYTHING else in your novel is PLANS, all of which require money and you have yet to tell us its source and when its expected to arrive. Truthfully, if I as a USM fan went to the SEC, Big 12, boards peddling propoganda like this I would be laughed off the board and probably banned for life. They have no interest in us as we havae no interest in you so please go away.

Oakes had nothing to do with Ronnie leaving. Ronnie left in total disgust, frustation, and disappointment after the demanded plans were finalized, published, and then the fricking mealy mouth Leech fans showed their true colors and didnt contribute any more than usual, waiting for someone else like the state taxpayers to do it for them. The Leech fans let him down and if he is reading this most likely will be jumping for joy that someone out "there", me, has the guts to call the shots to tell it like it is. Oakes was under pressure and begged Ronnie to stay and help him but he said he wasnt having no more of that crap and flew the coop. Oakes is out there saying "amen".

Here are a few updates on what's going on @ Tech, including the new tennis courts and fixing the track and field facilities

Dude, if you're signing anyone from Alabama, much less three, you're dead in the water.

That must be one helluva tournament considering that right now the Elite teams in the country are either in Murfreesboro for the Battle in the Boro or the other tournament in Chicago.

Alabama is a horribly, horribly, horribly, horribly bad women's basketball state for high school talent.

Middle had the leading scorer in Alabama history and she averaged around 4 ppg for her career.

I consider a degree from NLU or ULM, select the name you like, as equal to one from any other school in the area, including Tech. Hate to disappoint you though but I have never set even one foot on that campus.

well i will give you this. I would take a degree at ULM over one at USM for sure.

That info and $2.00 gets you a cup of coffee at Starbucks if they havent closed in your area. Cusa folks are so glad to hear that I doubt whether we can get any sleep due to the excitement.

really no need to show him articles from the newsstar. Remember Eager Eagle lives in Monroe and went to ULM. Which also means that he has no use for reading period.
I didnt realize that La Tech was in CUSA. Did I miss something during my 80 hour work week?

La Tech people hang out here all the time since no where else to go. I feel like us cusa guys though are being selfish and cheating others, the sec and big 12 boards for example, by not sharing the info posted here by Tecchies. Maybe it would be a good idea to start posting a link or directing fans on those boards to all the stuff the Tecchies dump on us. I am sure the guys on those boards would be elated and compliment us for sharing since they do not know the inside operations at Tech. I bet they dont know about the huge Leech Tech budget and their primary source of income, I bet they dont know about those monstrous revenues from ticket sales, etc. Maybe if we do that the tecchies will start going there direct rather than using us as a conduit. We shall see.

As soon as ULM people stop hanging out on here bashing Tech, then we will get off of here.
We should make the LaTek fans stay on the smack board so they can argue with robert.

Seriously.
Louisiana Tech.
You're in a conference that is exceptional at the top, and awful at the bottom.
You fall in the latter category.
Quit trying to act like you hit a triple.

Your facilities are sub-par.
Your budget is laughable.
Your results are deplorable.

It was our first year as a I-A.
Now we have a nicer football stadium than you.
A nicer baseball stadium than you.
A budget that is 50 percent bigger.
An RBI higher than yours in every major — and non-major — sport.
A higher payout from our conference ($900K).
And we don't have to play Idaho, Utah State, and New Mexico State anymore.

Those new facilities are crap.
That tennis complex is laughable.
Your track looks like some of the high schools in Murfreesboro.
You have a 12-freakin million dollar athletic budget.
Your travel costs were 1.5 million last year. What do you think they'll be this year?
Have fun going under.

Oh, and Monroe would run you off the field.

Middle Tennessee State University! We're jealous.

You're Louisiana Tech.
You're jealous of everyone.

Question:
Who finished ranked higher in football? (MT 101, La Tech 111)
Who finished ranked higher in men's bball? (MT 106, La Tech 325)
Who finished ranked higher in women's bball? (MT 41, La Tech 152)
Who finished ranked higher in baseball? (MT 131, La Tech 207)
Golf?
Volleyball?
(not revenue sports I know, but both finished in the top 16)
We had one of our worst sports years in history (our bball coach almost got fired, our baseball team tanked, and football lost on field goals to UVA and Western while we were starting a true freshman qb) and cleaned your clocks.
Who has better facilities?
Who is not located in Ruston?
Who is in a Top-30 media market?

We've passed you in less than a decade.
You're floundering, going broke, and these "upgrades" you like to talk about are a joke that you may have spent $50K on, so quit coming over here and acting like you belong.

If — big if — C-USA ever needs to add schools, LaTech is about eighth on the list. But hey, you are much more elite.
Middle Tennessee State. BWAAAAAAHHHH. That is laughable. YOu are right. So freaking Jealous of that. Hmmm. now Western Kentucky. I have to say have it a little goin on but you guys, give it a rest.
I looked at the LT photo gallery. I swear to god my old high school has better facilities than those. I'm not lying. Surely there is a better option out there for C-USA.

Hey, you guys go ahead and enjoy spending 30 percent of your budget on travel.
Enjoy finishing dead last in a league that is worse than the Sun Belt in every sport but football.
Enjoy playing Idaho, Utah St., and New Mexico St.

You say eighth on the list but based on the cusa number one criteria, media market and population, are you sure they would be that high. Fact is there is no list other than an identified number of high population centers in which cusa is not represented at this time, those are the ones that will be the home of our next member or members if one or more is ever needed.
