Glad you changed your mind between writing the post title and the post body. I'm assuming "nm" means "nevermind"...

The prudent among us will wait for running partners to be chosen and debates to be concluded. If only, at the very least, that wait might force Mr. Obama to actually propose a concrete, reasonable policy on something that could indicate what he would do if elected.

He's hoping for change. And by change he means higher taxes, higher fuel prices, more government entitlement programs, and the support of Iran.

No BT, It didn't mean nevermind. Remember we voted for our class president after he stuck out his tongue and licked between his fingers but now you want to be prudent. We are Blue Devils, who needs prudent.

Interesting, I don't think I've heard him say, "I support Iran". Actual your whole definition of change explains Reagan's agenda and time in office.

Higher taxes? Higher fuel prices? More government entitlements? You're wrong on those three. See Carter, Jimmy for a comparison.

As for the supporting Iran thing, those were different times with different people and much different enemies. You know, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

If anyone has a broken record, it's Obama.

Here's some change

I'm glad to see we've elevated the discourse and actually discuss the election and issues in an intelligent, mature, and educated way. None of that repeating party talking points and mindless blathering about things you haven't researched or things that you know to be false.
Just trying to lighten things up man. No need to get your panties in a wad.

Obama has said he would let the Bush tax cuts expire. That equals higher taxes (on everyone since the Bush tax cuts applied to every income level). He also was asked in an interview whether he liked higher fuel prices because of their potential to spur people to conserve. He answered that he would have preferred a "more gradual" transition to higher prices.

So should we expect him to avoid raising anyone's taxes? Should we expect him to explore ways to increase the supply of oil to 1)reduce our dependence on foreign sources, and 2)reduce the price?

Of course he has been very cagey about espousing "concrete" plans for implementing the "changes" he wants, which makes it hard to attack him logically over his plans, but those are two positions he explicitly embraced.

Oh, he also said he would get American troops out of Iraq "immediately" and keep no permanent presence in that country. I just think both of those positions are flat stupid. Sorry.

Have you bothered to read his "Plan for America" on his Web site? It spells out tons of specifics he plans to initiate.

And none of them include higher taxes for the middle class. For the riches 1 percent of Americans, yes. And did you know, that during the 1950s, which is considered one of the most prosperous periods in American history, the richest 1 percent of Americans paid 90 percent of the taxes in this country.

Then, the rich started getting elected, and America started going down the toilet.

I have yet to see any facts come from you. Tons of personal opinion, but not any facts.

You can raise taxes and cut spending and at least attempt to bring the budget back towards balance, or you can continue to cut taxes while increasing spending massively as we've been doing. That's fiscal lunacy.

As to the Bush tax cuts, I well remember when they passed how they were sold as not being budget busters, because they were "temporary cuts to stimulate the economy, just costing $X, because they will sunset"... and then as soon as they passed the drumbeat began to make these "temporary" tax cuts permanent.

I'll 'fact' you. If BHO gets elected, he will dramatically increase my income taxes. This will result in me saving less for retirement, hiring fewer employess when I open my 2 Bruster;s stores eraly next year and/or force my family to cut back on certain after school activities that are very rewarding for them. Just to give my hard earned money to lower 'incomers.' That's bu!!spit

what level (% of income) of taxation would satisfy those thinking the rich don't pay 'their fair share'?

First of all, it will be Congress, not the president, who passes any such legislation.

Second of all, if you are earning what Obama wants to tax, it shouldn't hurt you. You will have to be in the top 1 percent of income earners to see an increase, which means you'll be making about $100 million a year.

If you are making that much, and you can't live comfortably in retirement, then something is wrong with YOU, not the tax system.

I guess we can count you as one who thinks the tax code should be a means to punish achievement, not raise revenue.

What is a fair tax (as % of taxable income) for the
top 1% of wage earners?
top 5 %
top 10%
top 25%

I can't wait to find that [bottom 20%] wage earner creating jobs for any of the other 80%.

I don't think that's true GN. I remember seeing a comparison of the Obama and McCain tax plans done by some institute that looks at taxes. McCain's proposal showed decreases in taxes paid across all income brackets. Obama's proposal had larger decreases for the lower incomes, but somewhere in the $300k-$500k per year range it hit break even then as income rose so did taxes paid. If you can find evidence for it only affecting the $100 million per year range, I'd like to see it, as that is quite a significant difference from what I remember seeing.

Hoover:
Yes, I'm in the process of signing leases to open 2 stores here in Mobile in early 09. I'm also negotiating with two other new areas of Mobile to open later in 09 or early 10. I can't wait. I've been enjoying Bruster's for years and couldn't understand why there were no stores down here. So, I decided I would do it myself. Remember one thing, free ice cream for Blazer fans anytime you show up at one of my stores!

does that count for dirty commie liberal blazers?
Politics aside, when it comes to rooting for the Blazers, a UAB fan is a UAB fan.
GN, I'm waiting on you to back up that $100 million claim. This article on cnn.com today speaking with officials from the Tax Policy Center put the mark at $250k/year, mainly due to reorganizing the payroll tax. Instead of capping at $102k, income from $102k to ~$250k wouldn't be taxed, but anything about that would be. Of course, since Obama likes to remain as vague as possible, no one really knows exactly where the lines will be drawn.

I'm calling 04-bs on your $100 million claim.

It still doesn't say how he plans to do any of this, just that he wants to do it. Well, I want everyone in America to be millionaires, and I can say that I'm going to do it. But if I don't have a plan to make it happen, it's all just a load of crap.

But more specifically I was talking about his speeches. He is the best speaker I've ever heard who hasn't said anything of substance.

That's my whole point. When he has words in front of him to read, then he comes off as polished, put together, etc. However when he has to answer questions he fumbles his words, gets facts wrong (57 states) etc. Basically shows what he really is, a pretty package but no substance.

I nominate this as the most ridiculous post of the year. You campaign across the country for 17 months and not make a mistake. If a guy can't read a prompter, I would be more worried about him rather than the guy that could.

1. You obviously don't read this board enough if you think this is the most ridiculous post.

2. I'd rather have a president who can speak from knowledge and experience instead of one who has to have his words spoon-fed to him by a speech writer.

This bumper sticker is dual purpose for me.

I don't understand how you can propose plans for withdrawing troops from Iraq when the following is true:

1. You have never been to Iraq
2. You have never served on any sort of armed services committee
3. You have never served in the military

So basically it comes down to a guy who knows jack squat trying to sell a policy for withdrawing troops from Iraq. Brilliant!

Bush invaded Iraq without having done any of those three things....

This election will prove to be like the one in 1992, "It's the ECONOMY, STUPID!!" will be the key to a 2008 win again. Iraq will only be a key factor if the Insurgency can pull off another "Tet Offensive"-type outburst of violence in Iraq or Afghanistan just before the election. If the voters in the 12 major electoral vote states get scared about a recession (or worse), the election will go to the candidate they trust the most to turn the economy around. Too many Americans perceiving hard work on too many man-hours of labor as not being enough to live comfortably at today's Cost of Living will create a demand for change. They are going to find it very hard to accept that the U.S. can no longer be the "dog that wags the (world economy) tail" rather than being "just another tail on just another dog".
Say what you want, but Bush did have military service at the very least.
