Thanks for the info.

Interesting that we'll be playing Milsapp's former team even though he won't be playing in the game.
I coached a kid that plays for Butler, so i am looking forward to see them come to town in 2009. His name is Ronald Nored and he is a very, very good PG from Homewood. He was originally committed to Western KY, but backed out when the coach left.
If we don't destroy Troy both games I will send my diploma back to Birmingham and never talk to any of you clowns again. And I'll take my toys with me too!

So who do we root for now?

j/k... I want to beat them to a pulp!

I saw Nored play at AAU tournament and he was far superior to Andrew Steele. He dominated a couple of PGs who signed with high-major schools. I was very surprised he was not being recruited by Alabama, Auburn and UAB.
That really seems to be a weak Preseason NIT field.

I would have loved to have him in the green and gold. the best thing about him is that he is a very classy, Christian kid. Him and his little brother Randall are the most down to earth, loving and polite kids. You would be hard pressed to find someone that would have something negative to say about them on a personal level.

It's good that we not going through that crap that GA Tech and Gonzaga took us through last year. I hope Virginia doesn't try to give us the run around.

Also I have a question for anyone that has the answer. Will the Preseason NIT be a single or double elimination tournament?
It is usually a single elimination tournament, although there may be guaranteed games for the losers. In other words, the losers at each site will probably play each other.
Why in the world are we playing at Jacksonville State University???? It is an absolutely ridiculous idea for us to play a game in that oversized high school gym at an oversized high school- grades 13-16 of course.

Each team is guaranteed 4 games.
Example. UAB plays two games in Arizona. If the Blazers win the region, they travel to New York. If they do not, the NIT will take the teams and re-seed them. The highest 4 seeds will host and play two more games at that site.

You mean this Arena?

That arena seats over 5,500. and I have been there when they had around 6,000 in attendance standing room only. Very fun place to play.
I think it is a GREAT idea.

The game is not set in stone but what the deal will be is one buy game in Bartow followed by a two for one. Essentially a three for one.
Playing at the "Pete" will do a few things. Not sure of which year we will go to JSU, that is subject to change.

1. It will be doing James Green a favor. James & the UAB coaches (Davis & Marsh) are very good friends.
2. It will increase our exposure in that area and can be used for recruiting not only players but fans.
3. Show people we are not afraid to play in state teams.
4. Give our fans a very close road game that we can pack the stands and get a nice advantage playing on the road.
5. We will get the RPI credit for a road win.
6. Give me the shortest road trip I have ever had. 25 minutes. It is closer for me to drive to JSU than Bartow.

I know U-Mass has played them twice there (The "Pete") as well as East Carolina off the top of my head. If we can play at that POS at Georgia State we can play at JSU.

If the OOC is going to have a few small schools. Then they should be in state. First with the cost of travel, it is more cost effective. Also, it allows UAB basketball to gain exposure in other areas of the state. Unlike a couple of schools that shall remain nameless, I believe Davis understands that in order to build a national power, you have to first promote basketball within your own state. Games with Troy and Jack State are necessary to create statewide interest. I would like to also see games with Samford and South Alabama.

Now you are guaranteed at least two games. They went to a regional format similar to Coaches vs. Cancer the year after Memphis participated in it (05-06 season).

Looking at that field, UAB could very well win the damn thing if they can get by Arizona.

At each site the winers and losers play on the second day.
This process will repeat itself at New York & at the sites of the 43 highest rank losers of the first two rounds.

again,
Each team is guaranteed 4 games.

so you are saying each team is guaranteed three games?

Sorry, my ritalin hadn't kicked in yet.

Maybe I'm being greedy but i wanted to see us play an OOC top 25 program this year
I imagine the coaches did too. It takes two to make a deal.

I think Arizona would fit that.

Not last year they wouldn't have.
They finished 19-15 and 8-10 in the PAC 10.

Next year, hopefully they will be better. Lute will be back.

Don't be so sure about that. Although I don't think Jennings is worth all the hype he gets, him not going there might hurt their rankings early.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3454157

And they'll be losing Bayless.

What about Chase Budinger(sp?)

I think he was a sophomore and will be back. But he's not going to make them a top 25 team. I think the pac-10's going to be down this year as a whole, too.
I wish that if anymore top OOC opponents are to be added, we should schedule them in either January or February. That way if Dickie V or Digger starts to cry about our soft conference play that should shut them up.
arizona will be a top 25 team

No you won't. You'll be happy with a win.

I was thinking the same thing. But nevertheless it will get us some national attention if we perform well.

Would it be possible to get UAB cheerleaders, blaze, golden girls and Blazer Band in for that game since it is so freaking close?

Updated with Louisville Dec 27
I have not been able to confirm the ODU, Virginia, & JSU games yet. That's why I have a ? beside them.

ODU - I am assuming because it is supposed to be a 4 game series.
Virginia - Davis mentioned it on the air but calls to UAB & Virginia cannot confirm it at this time.
JSU - This series was mentioned by a source and I believe it will happen but cannot be confirmed at this time.
I just read that we are in the preseason NIT. Does anyone know how many games that we are guaranteed to play?
Looks like Davis's bus is going to be burning up the miles up and down I-65.

@ Cincinnati
@ Louisville
@ Butler

The road is looking tough. Now we need some tough home games.

That was too easy. You fall for everything. Sorry I couldn't resist after seeing your bolded text about 4 games.

Hell, with this bunch you never know......

BTW side note, we need to do some bass fishing. I have a couple honey holes up around my way.
Ohio State, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Columbia, Delaware State, Syracuse, Siena, Saint Joseph's, Fairleigh Dickinson, New Jersey Tech, Washington, Utah, High Point, Oral Roberts, Texas A&M, Texas-El Paso and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. This was either last years field or the year before lasts. So this years preseason nit looks comparable at least. I think NJ Tech was 0-29 last year. I would also love to get that matchup with Davidson in New York at some point in the tournament.
How many of these do you think will be on TV? I say....

Has anyone heard anything about a home and home series with Tennessee starting this year?

I heard that a while back, but I don't know if anything ever came of it. I heard our "home game" was supposed to be at the BJCC.

It flopped. Won't happen now.
Irvine indicating we may play Arizona State this upcoming year as well. Details still being worked out.

Quote:
The Blazers also might be heading back to Arizona at some point for a four-team classic at Arizona State. That one day event would feature UAB against the host team and Arizona playing Gonzaga.

If both of those events work out then it's a good possibility that UAB will get at least two nationally televised games.

Click on the Irvine Blog and show some love.

Brandon Jennings didn't qualify according to this article: http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/119435

Arizona just became much more beatable.
South Alabama is out this season.

Arkansas State has dropped out and they are looking for a replacement.
