It's my opinion that the mess that he is in right now is not his own fault. At the end of last year when he was pitching pretty well in the majors he was sitting at 93-96 and hitting 98. Then in spring training the Reds pitching coach messes with his delivery. Now he sits at 88-91. His breaking stuff isn't good enough so when his fastball is only mediocre Homer is in trouble. Let him go back to his previous mechanics and lets see if we can get the best pitching prospect back.

come again? he was never throwing 93-96. I always remember him throwing 91-94.

Last September he was around that area. In 2006 when he had the dominating season he was at 94-97. He needs to get back to his 2006 form.

Wow, bailey exceeded all expectations last night and threw a quality start. 6.1 IP, 3 ER. He only had 2 K's, but who cares, Homer Bailey is back!

He did well his last start to. Throwing 5.2 giving up 2 runs and striking out 4. I think he struck out three in a row at one point. He has been sitting at 92-94. While it's better than the 89-91 it's not where he has been in the past. But it's one step at a time for Homer.

baseball america listed him at the top of prospects whose stock has taken a major hit

People need to remember that Homer turned 22 only two months ago. With his fastball climbing back to the velocity it was at, I think that he will once again remind people why he was more highly regarded than Johnny Cueto (and Cueto has been exceptional for parts of this year). Give me a rotation of Harang, Volquez, Cueto, Bailey, and Daryl Thompson for the next few years and with the bats we have (phillips, encarnacion, bruce, votto) I think the Reds are poised to make some noise. How soon depends on whether Dunn is resigned for next year because Adam is having an absolutely monster year.

I'm optimistic about Bailey, he's still really young. He needs to start becoming more consistant soon though. However if he becomes what every Red's fan is hoping for then I love the Red's rotation going into the future. It has been way to long for this club. And yes, let's try and get Dunn back. We need to upgrade at SS imo though if we really want to make noise.

The Reds selected Bailey in the first round of the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft. Prior to the 2007 season, both Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus named Bailey the top prospect in the Reds' farm system.

Home threw a scoreless inning against the Rays today with two strike outs. In fact, Bailey, Cueto and Volquez combined to throw 7 shutout innings with 2 hits, 2 walks and 8 strike outs. Very nice!

bailey's last stand. it's like a famous battle. at least the other two are sick

He's looked alot better this spring and I really think Cueto is due for a breakout year. How are the Giants looking?

i think cueto's gonna be sick this year too. i'm skeptical about bailey, but we'll see.
The giants that need to play well are doing so. Timmy's been sick, same with sandoval and burriss, so i'm happy. The biggest problem is Romo's sprained ligament. They say he'll be ready for opening day, but i never believe what they say. The bullpen really needs him. He was awesome last year and he would really help cement the pen as one of the deepest and best in the NL, especially if Wilson makes the necessary improvements

6 innings 8 ks 1 walk for Homer against the Astros' starters. He has had a very good spring.

Homer has added a splitter and gotten rid of his changeup. His last two starts in the bigs? 13.1 innings, 4 runs, 11 strikeouts and only two walks. Hopefully he has gotten it turned out because Cueto has been pretty ****** his past few starts and Volquez is still on the DL.
BTW Swoosh, I caught the tail end of Sanchez's no-no on ESPN and that dude has some seriously nasty stuff. Why hasn't he been more effective thus far?

he's always had nasty stuff. he has a 10 cent brain and HAD horrible mechanics. He could never repeat his release point, therefore his fastball would go everywhere and he wouldnt get on top of his slider. they sent him to the pen about a month ago and Righetti realized that he was trying to repeat Johan Santana's delivery, which is great for a smaller guy like santana but horrible for a lanky guy like sanchez. his arm would get too far away from his body. So righetti tightened up his delivery, brought his arm closer to his body and added a little bit of a turn towards the camera. He looks completely different. As i'm typing this, Sanchez just got done striking out McLouth, Chipper and McCann.
that's good about Bailey, for the Reds at least. I'm sure you're cautiously optimistic as i am about sanchez.
btw, we should start posting here some more. i miss those days

Looks like it's more of a work in progress. Last night against the Dodgers: 2.2 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 2BB and 0 K's

He has been smacked around pretty good his past few starts after two very good starts. Who know what the deal is with him. He was absolutely dominant in Triple A before he got called up. Maybe he is just one of those AAAA players like Brandon Larson.

we sure have our share of AAAA players. kevin frandsen and jesus guzman come to mind
