Congrats to the Cubs for realizing what a clutch hit is and how to take advantage of the other team's mistakes. Through the course of a 162 game season those are the teams that separate themselves from the pack.

Now to the Braves. WTF is going on with them? I am a huge Cox fan, but why the hell did he leave Acosta in last night to throw the 8th? Lets look at Acosta's stats over his last 6 appearances...
4.1 IP 8ER 12 Runs 4hr 5BB 2SO 2blown saves and he is 0-3. His ERA has jumped from 2.83-4.41.
Is his arm tired due to the fact that only 2 of the starters can throw more than 5 innings? My hope is that when Gonzalez comes back that they send Acosta down. Acosta has me rooting for Boyer. The best part is the Braves website had a link to vote for Acosta as rookie of the year. Were they serious?

Francouer-That guy is the Ian Baker Finch of baseball right now. His head is so screwed up he doesn't know what way is up. It was rumored that the Braves offered him a contract equivalent to McCann's (6 yrs 26.8 million), but he turned it down. I guess he was hoping to get more in arbitration. Unless he goes crazy the rest of the season he won't see a dime over 2.5 million.
Frenchy has left 24 men on base in the last 5 games. It was painful to watch him last night. 2-0 count and he swings at a ball in the dirt. He is literally guessing on the pitch rather than reacting. His OF play is weak too. He is not as aggressive as he once was and lets a lot of balls drop in front of him.

I know they are playing with lots of injuries, but it is still hard to watch. Damn you Kelly Johnson.
Now Glavine on the DL again. Seems the Braves are having a "UAB" kinda season...
...AND Jair Jurrjens twisted his ankle last night so he will miss his start today and might go on the DL, too. Geez...

imo,
Cox is too loyal to his players to the detriment of the team.
He's never displayed [to me] a sense of when to remove a pitcher.
He attempts to allow his 'everyday players' to bat themselves out of a slump, even when their mechanics have gone to h#ll.
When one receives the kind of $$$'s these guys receive, as a manager I'd darn sure expect them to earn it on the field.
If you're not producing, get yourself 'right' on your own time.

that is all
ok so it isn't all. after Bobby brought in Ridgway, i thought he would have his stuff going again like he did in game two. boy was i off. one pitch and he gives us the game. he saw the high of sitting down 6 straight to throwing one pitch and getting the L. serves you punks right for knocking out our lead off guy with a broken hand. also, we don't lose at home very often. and while you guys whine about your players, I am going to wonder how Zambrano will be the next time out, as he hasn't had very good outings in his last two appearances. See you in Atlanta in Aug! Go ahead and pledge your allegiance now!!!!

GO CUBS GO!!!
I think Bobby Cox really misses Leo Mazzone.

and his incessant rocking
Just found this in Mazzone's wikipedia entry:

"In his book The Baseball Economist, J.C. Bradbury titles a chapter, "How Good is Leo Mazzone?" Using statistical analysis, he analyzes whether Mazzone had a significant impact upon the pitchers that he coached. The sample is all pitchers who have pitched at least one year under Mazzone and one year under a different pitching coach. Bradbury found that Mazzone lowered the ERA of pitchers by an average of .64 points, and that after leaving Mazzone, pitchers' ERA increased by an average of .78 points. Bradbury believes that such an impact is deserving of Hall of Fame consideration."
