Hi folks I just found these boards recently and have been reading through some of the discussions, figured I might as well chime in, give the A-Sun board some Stetson Hatter views, guess I'm the only one right now.

We just balanced out a really encouraging basketball season with a baseball season that just wasn't up to Stetson standards (pitching and defense stunk). I'm very excited for hoops this fall/winter with 5 starters back from 11-5 in the A-Sun.

I'd be happy to try to answer any Stetson questions you guys have.

Any talk of football at Stetson? I'd love to see non-scholarship fb there and I bet JU would, too. There's plenty of room for another football program in Florida.

Stetson's logo is one of my favorites....the classic "S" wearing the hat. Imagine Stetson's football helmet. Would you put a hat on a helmet?!!!

I would like to see Stetson as well as a majority of the teams in the Atlantic Sun field football teams.

I think non-scholarship football is a good starting point, but the conference shouldn’t stop there. The Atlantic Sun needs to come up with a strategic plan to take football from non-scholarship to competing in Division I-AA.

However, my view of this happening is very pessimistic at this time. I have communicated with Ted Gumbart, (Atlantic Sun Conference Commissioner), but have received no real answer; he seems very unmotivated and somewhat satisfied with the status quo.

Bob Pope (Athletic Director) at Mercer is also very satisfied with the status quo and wants to do things as cheaply as possible. I don’t believe Gumbart and Pope realize what football can do for a University or a conference.

I also think the Atlantic Sun could do a better job marketing its teams in other sports as well.

My opinion of the management of Athletics at both the Altantic Sun Conference and Mercer University is very negative at this time. I have been writing letters all summer. I would invite you to do the same; send Gumbart and Athletic Directors at Atlantic Sun schools e-mails and letters telling them why and how football could work for the Atlantic Sun.

I know this is a bit fanatical, but I believe if enough people e-mail, send letters, etc… The conference and the member schools will have to take notice. I have posted names, e-mails, and addresses for Gumbart and several Athletic Directors of member schools below.

I have not heard any talk about football these days...but the president is retiring next summer, so we hope the next president is athletics-friendly. The one we have can kinda take it or leave it as far as sports is concerned, which shows in our place in the standings, I guess.

Welcome, HatterFan! Good to see that Stetson has representation on this board again. I'm not sure whatever happened to King of Stetson and that other Stetson fan that used to post here.

I had heard that your leadership there wasn't giving your men's basketball program much support. I hope that will change soon.

As far as football is concerned, it's never going to happen at Stetson. I used to be the basketball manager there and have close ties with the coaching staff and the administration and football is the furthest from their minds. TRUST ME!

You know we are missing all the Stetson fans from when I first came on here. And didn't we used to a couple of JU fans as well?

The Stetson and UCF fans used to go at it. But since UCF left, the Stetson fans are pretty much gone.

some fair weather Stetson fans this year on here. Baseball is in the tank and no one bothers to post.

That's such a shame. Any thoughts for next year on A-Sun basketball games of the week maybe having people bring signs with a link to the boards? It would be nice to have fans from every school here.

Google "campbell message board" or "mercer message board"....these boards don't come up. Hmmmm.... wonder if I just helped by typing those phrases?!!! Here goes nothing (can't hurt) -
