Perhaps it’s Coy’s affable personality, the big grin he seems to flash at the drop of a hat, or the classy way he conducts himself on the court, such as when he passed up an easy but unnecessary slam dunk in the waning seconds of a 63-50 win at Evansville Mater Dei on Jan. 4 that make him a fan favorite.

The opposite will make him a fan favorite here, I hope he doesn't have a dunking complex like Nuckles.

The more dunks the better

Nut- you are so right. The way that the ETSU faithful around here totally ignored Tim Smith's lack of fundamentals and court sense and instead embraced his flashy "Me First" style was disgusting and proved what I say about the area lacking as a sports town.

Another reason why hockey is superior to basketball. In hockey, fans don't care if the shot is from the front of the net or the top of the point.

In basketball, they would rather watch a 2-point shot from above the rim than a 3-pointer from beyond the arc.

I can only speak for myself, but if he hustles and plays smart, then I'll like him regardless if he lays it in or tries to rip the goal down. I think we overall have some pretty discerning basketball fans. Some were critical of Nuckles because of his seeming lack of desire, not because he was fundamental versus flashy.

Without question, however, basketball fans and sports fans in general have fallen in love with the highlight clip. I watch
European players, women's basketball, or ESPN classic and its seems like a different game. Don't get me wrong, I love SportsCenter too, but I wish there was more emphasis on the finer points of the game.

I don't want Coy dunking because I like seeing dunks, I want him dunking because I had to sit through years of Nuckles blowing layups that could have been dunks. The dunk is the highest percentage shot in basketball, Dwight Howard and Shaq have led the NBA in rebounding for a reason, they led the NBA in dunks the seasons they had the highest FG%.

I want big men that go hard, or don't go at all.

And they say I have a dirty mouth.

In this case it sounds like he passed up scoring period because his team had the game won already. You know dribbling out the game rather then trying to score. Nuckles problem was like others have said he didn't go up strong and that allowed teams to block his shot or take it away from him.

Since he and Zeller are such good friends I wonder if that played a factor in Coy coming to ETSU. I think Johnson City is alot closer to North Carolina then the other schools that recruited him.
