It seems that back room deals more often than not turn out badly.
etsu has developed a "private school" mentality with regard to the under-the-table deals they've been getting by with for the past decade. One of the glaring one's deals directly with the funding of the CPA, the contracts to build the thing, the problems with the building delays and the fact that "someone" covered the cost up-front so it could be built and paid back over time... andrews was over that project, if I recall. There's another worrisome person's name involved in that deal also... powell... geez...
the naming of staff to elevated/inflated positions has also become so common that most etsu folks don't take the searches seriously when they do announce a legal posting. mullins, named as interim, was elevated with NO SEARCH what-so-ever and they used some buried, obscure TBR clause about permenant placement of "acting" positions, yet most people didn't bat an eye.
I'm sure most of us could add to the list, least of which would the the way football was destroyed and people were intimidated in to silence.
Bully's eventually get their due.
I'd like to point out in an award-winning column wrote five years ago I did touch upon the fact there was no search for a new AD after Stansbury left.
In this day and age if a legitimiate interview search isn't done the university should have its' funding cut so much that those professors that were squawking about losing their jobs if football was brought back DO lose their jobs without it. ETSU's mentality is going to continue to put the university further and further behind other TBR schools, there is no reason why we shouldn't be atleast equals with MTSU. They have to compete with Vandy, UTK, Memphis, Alabama, Western Kentucky, Belmont, Lipscomb, TTU, and UT-C, and that's just a few schools within a couple of hours of the boro, yet they seem to be growing exponentionally.

There are 330 D1 teams. There are what, like 30 hockey teams. I would say its a little easier to win a championship in hockey.

Yeah, maybe for the Chicago States and the ETSUs it's tougher to win a championship in, whatever. Certainly for ETSU it's been murder for them to try and win in golf.
But a North Carolina is NOT playing on the same level as an ETSU.
